Chapter 356: She Has a Special Skill
Ju Wuying glanced at Wu Lue with a faint look and spoke slowly.
"You're just saying you think we're too weak and fear we'll die? Uh… fine, but I still think it's concern."
Wu Lue saw the translation on his app and felt nothing, since he couldn't beat Lu Yu or Ju Wuying, and his combat strength was average to low within Tianma Island—but Lu Yu was furious.
"Fuck, you little Japanese girl, I'm gonna teach you a lesson—you got lucky once and think you're on top of the world!"
Lu Yu cursed as he drove back along the road they'd come.
Ju Wuying said nothing, sitting quietly in the backseat, her sharp eyes fixed on the window; as the car sped past an intersection, she saw again the two vehicles watching from afar—same ones, but now parked farther off, separated by the intersection.
She didn't ask Lu Yu to stop, knowing it was pointless to tell the two men on board; if they gave up now, fine—but if they kept following, the ones who'd suffer wouldn't be her side.
"What exactly happened just now?"
On the provincial road, the FJ Land Cruiser and the Senna were parked roadside; Zhang Su approached as Lu Yu and the others stepped down from the Big Dog.
"We didn't see anything, Brother Su—you should ask her…"
Lu Yu shrugged and pointed at Ju Wuying.
Before Zhang Su could ask, Ju Wuying spoke at length, serious and earnest.
Yi Xiaoling stepped forward and said: "Big Brother Zhang, Xiao Ju says she saw clearly—two cars were watching them, not just once; after you told them to return, they saw those same two cars watching from afar on the way back!"
"Huh?"
Lu Yu grabbed Ju Wuying's arm. "You saw them again? Why didn't you say anything then?"
"Why say anything then?" Zhang Su waved his hand. "I already told you to come back because I feared an ambush."
Ju Wuying nodded firmly upon hearing Zhang Su's words—she'd thought the same, so she hadn't bothered speaking.
"Had you seen those cars or people before?"
Zhang Su asked Ju Wuying, since she was the only one among the three who had seen clearly.
Ju Wuying paused to recall, then shook her head.
"That's strange. Aside from us, the only others nearby are Daqiao Fortress's old Meng, or maybe other lone wolf squads like yours? No—it's far more likely they came from Shanhai District!"
Zhang Su frowned as he analyzed.
Chen Hanzhou nodded. "Brother Su, I agree—it's very likely they came from Shanhai District. Last time, Liu Shijie's group didn't return; their camp shouldn't have ignored it."
"Exactly. That's what I thought too."
Zhang Su nodded, gazing toward the direction from which Lu Yu and the others had returned; nothing unusual was visible. He was about to speak when he frowned at the Big Dog and grinned. "Fuck—if they really came from Shanhai District, things were fine before, but now they're not!"
"Why?"
"Huh? I get it…"
Lu Yu blurted out the question without thinking, but Chen Hanzhou frowned and pointed at the Big Dog. "This vehicle belonged to those people from Shanhai District! I understand—if it's their camp chasing us, seeing this car means they know we stole at least one of their comrades' vehicles!"
"Shit… what do we do now?"
Wu Lue instantly felt hollow—he hated the feeling of being watched in secret.
Lu Yu just shrugged. "They started it—they beat Xiao Shuai and tried to ransom him. If they come looking for trouble, I'll kill them."
"Right. Given how those bastards operate, if they run into any of our isolated comrades, they'll do the same thing again—they're bandits!"
"So if we meet them, grab them first! Don't be merciful to strangers—many people now carry guns, understood?"
Zhang Su gave the order, then turned to Ju Wuying.
Ju Wuying gave a cryptic smile and nodded slowly.
"Big Brother Zhang, actually, Xiao Ju…"
Yi Xiaoling tried to tell Zhang Su something, but Ju Wuying quickly interrupted from the side.
"Huh? So you've got more secrets… speak up—what's really going on?"
Ju Wuying gestured with her hands and said a few things.
Yi Xiaoling translated: "Um… Xiao Ju has a special skill—she can dodge bullets from handguns to some degree."
A month ago, someone would have scoffed at this—but after witnessing Li Zhaohua, the edge squad leader of the Azure Dragon Corps, display his insane reflexes, they now had a visceral sense that dodging bullets wasn't entirely impossible.
Only Lu Yu wore a conflicted expression—disbelieving yet unwilling to dismiss it; slowly, he'd learned to hold his tongue until he could verify things himself, to avoid getting slapped in the face—and it hurt.
Zhang Su thought differently from everyone else—he was certain Yi Xiaoling's unspoken point wasn't just about dodging bullets; though that alone was shocking, there was clearly something even more astonishing left unsaid!
"Oh? You really have that ability? Then once we reach camp, you'll have to show us—don't worry, we'll ensure full safety measures before the demonstration. Deal?"
Ju Wuying seemed to have expected this outcome; she smiled faintly and nodded slightly, agreeing.
"Let's go—we can't wait here forever. Maybe they don't even plan to find us, maybe they're just wandering around the county. If they do come after us, we'll deal with them then!"
Zhang Su waved his hand and signaled everyone to get in the vehicles.
After luring away the horde, no further incidents occurred; the road was clear. The three vehicles reached the fork to Kuangzhuang in little time. Uncertain of the purpose behind the two cars in Qingxian, Zhang Su didn't let the others return to Tianma Island ahead—he turned with them toward Kuangzhuang.
The three vehicles entered Kuangzhuang, their tires crunching over gravel with a faint squeak.
This village, which had still been alive two days ago, now lay eerily silent under the sunset's glow—empty houses, as if time itself had frozen.
"Over there—that house with the pink hat is mine!"
Su Xiaoya pointed the way, and soon the car pulled up to the courtyard gate.
Nothing compared to the large courtyard where Ju Wuying and Yi Xiaoling lived; Su Xiaoya's former home was dilapidated and shabby—a mud wall barely shoulder-high, bricks missing in places, uneven and fragile, as if a gust could knock it down.
The house itself was just two earthen rooms, windows shattered and patched with plastic bags, window frames rotting—looked miserable from every angle.
"I thought Su Lei's family was well-off—how come yours is this poor?"
As everyone stepped out, Zhang Su stared at the crumbling wall, puzzled.
Su Xiaoya took a deep breath, her gaze drifting across every corner—each held memories of her and her sister. Hearing Zhang Su's question, she sighed sadly. "This isn't our original home—it was assigned to my sister and me by Lei Youliang."
According to Su Xiaoya, their family had originally lived at the other end of the village. After the disaster, residents were forced to consolidate into this area, and she and Su Lei were given this old structure.
"Damn, that Shark Arm is a bastard—he gave you two sisters this dump? Where does he live? Oh, shit…"
Lu Yu kicked the mud wall—right off a chunk, nearly tripping himself.
Boom…
Zhang Su and the others stared at Lu Yu in silence, watching the fallen red bricks.
"Sorry…"
Lu Yu awkwardly picked up a few bricks and shoved them back into the wall, grinning sheepishly.
Su Xiaoya smirked and pointed to a nearby house whose foundation towered higher than the earthen ones. "That's Lei Youliang's house. Apparently, it was originally built for him by the old village chief—meant to be a wedding home."
Everyone followed her finger. A house with white ceramic tiles stood quietly within a sturdy wall; the elegant fence was adorned with auspicious stone carvings, neatly decorated.
"The village is safe—no zombies seen. You go inside alone. We'll search around. If there's danger, shout—we'll hear you."
Zhang Su patted Su Xiaoya's shoulder.
"Aren't you coming with me?"
Su Xiaoya pointed at the house.
Zhang Su said nothing, lit three cigarettes, held them above his head—the smoke rose straight up, unblown by wind, gazing toward Qingxian.
"Su Lei, you know I don't believe in gods or ghosts. Whether you let the past go or not, it's already gone. I hope you can see that Su Xiaoya is still alive—move on peacefully, don't worry about your sister."
With that, Zhang Su stuck the three cigarettes into a crack in the mud wall.
"Done!" Zhang Su clapped his hands, turned to Su Xiaoya. "We've paid our respects to Su Lei. Go inside and pack. We're heading to Lei Youliang's house first."
