Chapter 601: All Treasures!

~6 min read 1,035 words

"Su Ge, there was trouble on the North Second Ring last night!"

As the teams drove off, Qi Xiaoshuai and Pang Dakun stepped forward to report to Zhang Su.

"Oh?"

Zhang Su, slightly surprised, leapt down from the tank and asked urgently: "Tell me!"

"From the time we arrived at Xidaying Village it was under twelve, and everything was quiet until three-thirty. At exactly four-oh-three, I saw headlights flickering from the direction of the city, but buildings blocked the view, so I couldn't tell what was happening."

"Most importantly, at four-thirty-four, two vehicles—definitely two, because if any had been driving without lights we'd have seen it—appeared from the eastern end and sped westward along the road!"

"Yeah, I saw it too—super fast, zzzz!"

After Qi Xiaoshuai finished, Pang Dakun chimed in to assert himself—he should've been sleeping, but couldn't, so he kept Qi Xiaoshuai company on watch.

"Two vehicles going from east to west..."

Zhang Su rubbed his chin, frowning: "Probably refugees fleeing from Shanhai District headed for Tangcheng. No need to worry. Xiaoshuai, Dakun—you two will be stationed permanently at Xidaying Village. Keep an eye on the progress of the Hahe River project. How's that?"

According to the preliminary plan, they first had to clear out the remaining zombies from the Hahe River, then dredge and deepen the channel, followed by constructing defensive works along both banks—the scale of the work was enormous.

Though this project benefited everyone on Tianma Island, that didn't guarantee everyone would work diligently. Someone had to supervise, and not just one person—too few would miss things. Core members were required.

Hearing the assignment, Qi Xiaoshuai made a face: "If we're watching the construction during the day, we can't keep night watch—no energy left, Su Ge. And I've got training every afternoon!"

"Exactly, Uncle! Don't treat us like construction foremen—we're warriors of the Yanluo Legion!"

Pang Dakun puffed out his chest defiantly, glancing toward Ju Wuying, who was walking away from the parking lot toward the ravine—his intent was obvious: she was his target.

"You don't need to do watch duty—I'll pick people from other detachments. You focus on daytime supervision. In the afternoon... I'll send two others."

As he spoke, Zhang Su had already decided: Ma Changshou from Xidaying Village had little left to do in farming or animal husbandry—he could easily spare half a day. Besides, Xidaying was his base; Ma knew the Hahe River's situation intimately. His skills should be used where they mattered most.

The other person he considered was Li Zongkai. Though currently assisting Liu Yao and Yang Xin, if Zhang Su personally assigned the task, neither would object.

Ma Changshou and Li Zongkai were both shrewd—paired together as supervisors, they'd complement each other perfectly.

"Su Ge, one more thing—communications!" Qi Xiaoshuai waved his walkie-talkie. "Unless it's in perfect condition, trying to contact here from Xidaying Village is pure luck."

"I know. Don't worry—the barracks brought plenty of top-tier comms gear, including relay stations. We'll mount them on the railway bridge—no more communication issues between the two sides!"

Zhang Su didn't give it a second thought—equipment in this area was still plentiful.

"I knew Uncle had a solution! You worried for ages—yawn—I'm dead tired. Uncle, I'm off to sleep. Won't be late for afternoon training."

Pang Dakun, exhausted from a sleepless night, was half-asleep. "Alright, both of you go rest."

After speaking with Qi Xiaoshuai and Pang Dakun, Zhang Su immediately called Yang Xin, who organized two squads to take up watch at Xidaying Village—this duty couldn't be permanently assigned to the Yanluo Legion.

Then he turned to Wu Lue, who stood in the corner scratching his head.

"Luezi, haven't you been assigned anything yet?"

Wu Lue glanced around—there were over twenty others still on standby—and grinned: "Yeah, haha, Su Ge, I'm wide awake and ready!"

"Good. Lao Li, get your comms guys from the barracks and take Wu Lue to set up relay stations. Ensure seamless communication within a ten-kilometer radius centered on Tianma Island."

"Understood! I'll go get them right away!"

Li Zongkai didn't delay—he greeted Liu Yao and Yang Xin and headed down the mountain to gather the team.

Wu Lue watched Li Zongkai's brisk retreating figure, scratched his head, and said: "Su Ge, you remember that high-speed train on the southern railway bridge?"

"How could I forget? Just now I told Xiaoshuai—we'll put a relay station on the bridge to secure communication between Tianma Island and Hahe River. Wasn't I right?"

Zhang Su had only guessed based on instinct—he wasn't certain and wanted to consult a specialist.

Wu Lue rolled his eyes, calculated quickly, then nodded: "Should be fine. But here's the thing—can we find time to clear out that high-speed train?"

"Clear out the high-speed train? You after the electronics on it?"

Zhang Su asked with a strange expression.

A high-speed train cost hundreds of millions, packed with advanced tech—he knew it was full of usable materials, but for various reasons hadn't touched it. It sat there, too large to be easily stolen.

Wu Lue grinned: "You get me, Su Ge! There's so much good stuff up there. With our current strength, clearing it won't be hard. Strip it down—everything's a treasure, haha!"

"Wait until everyone's stabilized. For now, focus on setting up the comms network."

Zhang Su didn't agree—clearing the train would require massive manpower. He had no time for it now.

After speaking with Wu Lue, Zhang Su turned and saw Duan Wuhu pushing Fu Weijun strolling nearby—heading toward the scenic area.

He felt both affection and frustration toward this obsessive researcher—he'd finally learned not to experiment on himself, but still couldn't risk others' lives! Duan Wuhu and Fu Weijun waved from afar. Watching Zhang Su head toward Cuilengxuan, Fu Weijun muttered: "Duan Ge, do you think Mr. Zhang will give those two thalami to someone else?"

This was Fu Weijun's greatest fear—he'd made a mistake and could only suffer in silence.

Duan Wuhu kept pushing the wheelchair toward the ruined scenic gate, smiling lightly: "Brother Zhang always keeps his word. If he promised to save them for you, he will. But you—you need to act with sense now. No more of those idiotic stunts!"
