Chapter 659: Your Feeling Is Excellent
After finishing the pre-departure preparations, the sky turned grayish. When Zhang Su and the Rush to the Sea Team arrived at the parking lot, Shen Linrui and the others were already anxiously waiting.
“Sorry, everyone was so eager to go to the Shanhai District, and it took a long time to dissuade the extras! Here, let me introduce the Rush to the Sea Team who will be cooperating with you!”
“Team leader, Duan Wu, physically strong and sharp-witted; frontline combatants Zhao De and Lu Yu; the true martial backbone of the Yama Legion; technician Wu Lue, responsible for setting up communication equipment and drone operations!”
Zhang Su stepped forward and laid out the situation plainly.
“Rush to the Sea… Yama has thought of everything.”
Shen Linrui naturally assumed the name was Zhang Su’s creation, and bowed solemnly in thanks.
“I’m not that cultured—it was Team Leader Duan’s idea!”
Zhang Su didn’t take credit for what wasn’t his, then pointed to the prepared vehicles: “Tanks are undoubtedly the best transport, but we don’t have enough fuel. We picked these rugged off-road vehicles—they should suffice for this mission. Don’t waste time on minor obstacles!”
“Thank you, Yama King. We won’t delay any longer. Hope we meet again.”
Shen Linrui, eager to depart, exchanged pleasantries and leapt into the driver’s seat of the H9. The other three vehicles were “Cannon,” Prado, and the high-power Pajero.
“Um, just a moment…”
Yu Qing stepped out from the crowd, smiled apologetically at Zhang Su, then hurried over to Zhao De and gently advised: “Be careful out there. I packed a few packs of cigarettes, some first-aid supplies, and compressed rations—put them away.”
All four members of the Rush to the Sea Team received identical supplies, but heartfelt little gifts from loved ones were another matter entirely—no one dared comment.
“Look at Big Zhu’s treatment—sigh, so envious…”
Wu Lue was teasing Lu Yu when another girl ran up.
Mo Qianlan lowered her head before Lu Yu and handed him a small bag: “I packed you some food—keep it safe. Don’t act recklessly out there. Listen to Team Leader Duan, okay?”
Lu Yu was over the moon, nodding vigorously.
Wu Lue dramatically flipped them the middle finger, then threw his arms open to Duan Wu with a mournful face: “Team Leader Duan, we’re the two poor, lonely dogs—let’s cry together!”
“Heh, no need. Wei Jun came to see me off…”
Duan Wu smiled apologetically as Fu Weijun pushed a wheelchair toward him, then went to meet him.
“Oh my god… Sister Xue, ah, my best Xue, only you could do this.”
Everyone else had someone to see them off; Wu Lue felt especially desolate—until Zhao Xue walked up to him.
“Xiao Lue, come back safe. Our Yi Lei Wen trio can’t afford to lose anyone!”
Zhao Xue cheerfully stuffed food and cigarettes into Wu Lue’s bag.
Shen Linrui and the others watched this scene, their hearts filled with mixed emotions. Farewells between loved ones and friends always brought sorrow—but thinking of their own plight made it even sadder…
If it had ended there, it would’ve been enough—but the real blow came now.
Hao Yun trotted over to the parking lot, carrying a small basket, dropped it on the ground, and barked at Shen Linrui.
Shen Linrui glanced at Hao Yun, then at the basket—inside were snacks.
“Haha, this must be Hao Yun’s gift to Lightning—just dried nuts.”
Zhang Su saw clearly: almonds, pecans, pine nuts, and pistachios—clearly not meant for Shen Linrui. He hadn’t even thought to bring a small gift to win favor, but Hao Yun had done it for him.
Lightning poked its small head out from Shen Linrui’s pocket, heard Zhang Su’s words, leapt out, stood on Shen Linrui’s thigh, looked at Hao Yun and the basket, then zipped to the ground and walked up to the basket.
Zhang Su’s lips twitched almost imperceptibly. He noticed that while Lightning regarded Shen Linrui as its master, it didn’t always seek permission—like now. If it were Hao Yun, it would’ve asked for his approval first.
“Woof.”
Hao Yun let out two soft barks, then nudged the basket toward Lightning—its meaning was unmistakable.
“Haha, Lightning, you and Hao Yun are like rivals turned friends—take these snacks, eat them on the road.” Zhang Su encouraged as Lightning hesitated.
Lightning’s shiny little eyes darted between Hao Yun and Zhang Su, circled twice on the spot, then dashed to Hao Yun, leapt onto its snout, and hugged it—as if apologizing for the harm it had caused.
“That’s right. Your kind is rarer than humans now—don’t fight, get along, take the good food, go.”
Zhang Su crouched down and naturally patted Lightning’s head. The little rodent showed no resistance—a good sign.
Shen Linrui and the others from Dragon Head Camp exchanged glances, their expressions deeply complex. They couldn’t even match humans—now they couldn’t even match animals. Words failed them…
Minutes later, the four vehicles slowly drove away from the camp, while members of the Yama Legion saw them off at the Shanmen gate.
The road downhill and the area around the camp had been cleared.
“Husband, do you think they’ll be okay?”
Zheng Xinyu watched the taillights vanish at the end of the winding mountain road, and asked Zhang Su anxiously.
“Huh.” Zhang Su exhaled a puff of white mist, then looked at Zheng Xinyu and asked seriously: “What do you feel?”
“I feel… I feel our own people will go smoothly, because Bo and the others went to help out of kindness. Even if something goes wrong, it should be Dragon Head Camp that bears the consequences!”
Zheng Xinyu clenched her lips, then nodded firmly—as if reinforcing her own belief.
Zhang Su was satisfied with this answer and patted Zheng Xinyu’s head: “Your feeling is excellent.”
“Come on, everyone—let’s get to work.”
Shen Linrui and the others had left; Duan Wu, Lu Yu, Zhao De, and Wu Lue had departed too—but the battered camp still needed cleaning up.
“Sigh, Brother Su, don’t you think if Shen Linrui and his group hadn’t come here, none of this would’ve happened?”
Qi Xiaoshuai asked, slightly resentful.
Yu Wen, standing nearby, gave a cryptic smile: “The present determines the future, and our present is determined by a fixed past. Even if we returned to a moment ago, it would repeat endlessly—nothing would change!”
The people walking beside Yu Wen stared at him, mouths agape, utterly stunned.
“Old Yu, what book are you reading lately? All this obscure stuff—can’t you just speak plainly?”
Zhang Su laughed helplessly.
“Plainly put… fate is predetermined. Everything is set. Dragon Head Camp was destined for this disaster!” Yu Wen sighed and shook his head: “I was worried this faction might threaten us. But it did cause major disruption—fate, fate indeed.”
With this blow, Dragon Head Camp was wiped out—but at the same time, it opened the gates between the inside and outside of the pass. Human competition lessened, yet now they faced threats from non-human entities.
“From a rational standpoint, facing half a million zombies is better than fighting a camp of a few hundred. But emotionally, I still think more people are better…”
Zhang Su sighed. If peaceful coexistence and joint development were possible, more people were always better—humanity on this entire planet was already so few, and reproduction remained a critical problem.
“Enough with the melancholy. We’ve got a mountain of work to do. Come on—get moving!”
The camp should’ve entered a phase of rapid development, but an explosion dozens of kilometers away brought progress to a halt.
As Yu Wen said, some things seem easy to judge as good or bad on the surface—but deeper inspection reveals different outcomes.
The Survivor Alliance, Civilization Guardians, and six or seven other factions had merged—but short-term integration couldn’t achieve true harmony.
No conflict had surfaced yet because Zhang Su and the Yama Legion stood above, controlling and suppressing. But if small groups hadn’t fully broken down before entering rapid development, factions would inevitably form—a problem too serious to ignore.
But now, a disaster of just the right scale struck the camp. Everyone shared hardship, and the Yama Legion deliberately dismantled old loyalties. The shockwave didn’t just destroy buildings—it shattered invisible barriers between factions.
People forgot their former identities, joined hands in rescue efforts, worked side by side, grew more accepting of each other, shed old labels, and embraced new ones. In the long run, this was an excellent development.
