Chapter 86: Can't Win, Absolutely Can't Win (Please Subscribe)

~9 min read 1,789 words

“You’re yelling again?!” Wu Ge was clearly no pushover and shot back immediately: “Your skull’s been split open—do you really think someone’s gonna patch you up? Go back, and it’s still a dead end. Shark arm.”

The man with his head blown out was still dazed, having never seen who attacked him, because Zhong Xiaoshanyi had been standing in the shadows all along…

He squinted to ease the dizziness and muttered, “Hmph, even if I’m gonna die, I’m dragging you down with me! Big brother, you heard him too— he was the first one who wanted to warm up. We never thought of anything dirty!”

After hearing the man’s words, Wu Ge stiffened—this was an undeniable crime. He hurried to defend himself: “Bullshit! When I said ‘warm up,’ I meant drinking liquor! What the hell were you thinking? You’re the ones being dirty!”

“You—sshh, sssh… don’t believe his lies.”

At that moment, the man with his testicles crushed also woke up. He struggled to shift his body, letting out sharp hisses of pain, yet still insisted on accusing Wu Ge.

“The second day the zombie virus broke out, he forcibly protected a neighbor— he told us himself! The girl was in high school. He said she was bitten by zombies, so why not have some fun? Cough, cough!”

“Bullshit! I was just bragging, blowing smoke! If she’d really been bitten, would I even touch her? You actually believe that? You’re all pig-brains!”

Wu Ge fiercely denied it.

Zhang Su shook his flashlight, thoroughly bored. “None of you three are decent people. I don’t care to ask anymore. Here’s your chance to tear each other apart.”

With that, Zhang Su waved for his group to step back. Then, in Wu Ge’s stunned gaze, he pulled out a fruit knife belonging to them.

Plop.

Zhang Su plunged the fruit knife into the coffee table and said, “Fight for your own life!”

Then he stepped back a few paces, shining his flashlight on the dagger on the table.

Seeing this, Wu Ge and the others instantly understood Zhang Su’s meaning—this was a command to kill each other!

“Brothers, don’t fall for this trick!”

Wu Ge’s eyes darted around as he hurried to calm the two men on the ground.

Zhang Su sneered. “You actually think you can fight us? They say cornered beasts fight hardest—I’m happy to play with a few of you cornered beasts!”

As he spoke, Zhang Su’s five men all drew their weapons.

Dog-leg knives, baseball bats, iron plates, grain samplers, and the most absurd of all—a vernier caliper…

To make sure the men could see clearly, Zheng Xinyu had everyone point their flashlights at the ceiling, instantly flooding the living room with brilliant light.

The man with the blown-out head finally saw, for the first time, who had shattered his skull.

It was a beautiful young woman?

The sky had fallen.

Who says women have no combat power?

One crushed testicles, one blew out a head—what do you call that, no combat power?

And what’s that fat aunt holding? A death-bringing hoe…

Their weapons were top-notch, their combat strength formidable. They had no idea where this group had come from—it was insane.

Glug.

All three swallowed hard. Couldn’t win. Whether cornered beast or mad beast—they simply couldn’t win.

“Brothers, we’re not cowards! Even if we die, we fight the enemy—not each other! Isn’t that right?”

Wu Ge kept talking smoothly, trying to persuade them, but his eyes were locked on the fruit knife on the coffee table.

“Get lost! You’re always spewing shit—I’d believe you if you were my grandson!”

The testicle-crushed man roared in fury, suddenly unleashing astonishing strength. Without warning, he stood up, leapt with both legs, and slammed into Wu Ge just as he moved, knocking him off balance. Then he rolled on the floor and reached the coffee table first.

“You like rolling, huh? You think you can fight me? You’ve lost your balls—live the rest of your life as a eunuch!”

Wu Ge was no pushover. Before the testicle-crushed man could reach for the knife with his bound hands, Wu Ge leapt and stomped down hard on his body.

The testicle-crushed man panicked—if Wu Ge landed that stomp, he’d vomit up his last meal!

He scrambled up and rolled sideways, crashing onto the sofa. It didn’t hurt, but the soft cushion gave no leverage—he couldn’t get up right away. Watching Wu Ge pull out the dagger and start cutting the wrist restraints, he grew frantic.

The ankle restraints restricted movement, but once his hands were free, everything else would be manageable!

“Wu! I’ll fight you to the death!”

Just then, the man with the blown-out head rose and launched himself forward like a human cannonball, hunched over, arms behind his back, smashing his skull into Wu Ge.

“Aaah! Bastard, I’ll kill you!”

Wu Ge took the full impact, crashing hard to the floor, his organs churning. The knife flew from his grip.

Instantly, all three began wrestling on the ground.

“Brother Zhang… isn’t this… inappropriate?”

Tan Hua asked, face stiff.

“Think about what they planned to do—do you still think it’s inappropriate?”

Zhang Su knew it was hard for a rule-abiding middle-aged woman to accept this world, but Tan Hua’s next words nearly made him choke.

“I mean, they’re making so much noise—what if Zhang Xin’s group notices? Won’t that cause trouble?”

Tan Hua pointed toward the window.

Zhang Su realized she had a point. He turned to Lu Yu: “Make them quiet.”

Lu Yu understood. He raised the grain sampler, its sharp tip pointed forward. “Hey, you three—if you’re gonna fight, fight properly. Scream again, and I’ll skewer you.”

Wu Ge and the others fell silent immediately—but their fighting intensity didn’t drop. Since none of their restraints were cut, their movements were twisted and awkward. With few options left, they even started biting.

The man with the blown-out head bit off a chunk of Wu Ge’s ear. Blood streamed down half his face—primitive, brutal.

But the injury triggered Wu Ge’s hidden potential. With a low roar, he snapped the ankle restraint clean off.

“Hahahaha.”

Wu Ge let out a cruel laugh. His legs weren’t as effective as his hands, but now that he could move freely, he could utterly dominate the other two!

The two “hopping” men froze—before they could react, each took a kick.

Wu Ge kicked them both to the ground, then unleashed a furious barrage of stomps—thump, thump, thump—like a boxer hammering a heavy bag, powerful and rhythmic.

After about a minute, Wu Ge saw the two were nearly defenseless. He limped over to the fruit knife, picked it up, cut the restraints on his wrists, then walked silently back to the two men and stabbed each once.

Blood pooled beneath the corpses. Tan Hua frowned—this was her home. She knew she wouldn’t stay here, but still, so many dead… it unsettled her.

“Hehehe… I won in the end!”

After killing them, Wu Ge dropped the knife, struggled to stand upright, and turned to face Zhang Su’s group, grinning a terrifying smile. With his wounds and bloodstains, he looked even more horrifying.

He staggered toward Zhang Su and the others.

Zheng Xinyu and the other women felt Wu Ge was more terrifying than a zombie—even Lu Yu frowned. In that brief moment, he’d witnessed true ferocity—nothing like street brawls!

Zhang Su’s face was expressionless. He simply watched Wu Ge, not retreating an inch despite the bloody spectacle.

Seeing Wu Ge approach, the three women instinctively stepped back.

Lu Yu raised the grain sampler. “Stop!”

Wu Ge didn’t stop—until the tip of the sampler pressed against his chest. He halted, then smirked at Zhang Su. “Brother, satisfied with the result?”

“Very good.”

Zhang Su gave a cryptic smile.

The four beside him were stunned—how could it still be “very good”?

Wu Ge didn’t understand what “very good” meant. He raised his exhausted arm and pointed at the door. “Move aside.”

Zhang Su shook his head. “No.”

“You!” Wu Ge scowled. “You’re breaking your word?”

“How am I breaking my word?”

Zhang Su countered: “First, I gave you what you wanted—a dog-eat-dog fight, right? Second… I said if you talked reasonably, you’d live. Otherwise, you wouldn’t walk out that door!”

“Do you think your behavior counted as ‘talking reasonably’?”

Zhang Su’s gaze pierced Wu Ge.

Wu Ge froze. He’d forgotten all those words. He never expected Zhang Su to be waiting for him here.

“This, I, but…”

“You can leave—if you want, I’ll give you another chance.”

Zhang Su asked.

Wu Ge nodded frantically. “Of course!”

“Wait a sec!” Zhang Su clenched his fist and turned to Lu Yu. “Come on, Bozi. Rock, paper, scissors.”

“Huh? Oh…”

Lu Yu, confused, obediently threw scissors.

“You fucking idiot, scissors? Annoying!”

Zhang Su held up his fist, glaring at Lu Yu in annoyance.

Lu Yu made a “V” sign, face twisted in despair. “Brother Zhang, I—I’ll do it again. I’ll throw rock.”

“Go throw rock yourself!”

Zhang Su waved his hand, turned to the bewildered Wu Ge, and said: “Alright, I’ll give you a fair duel.”

“Hah… uh.”

Lu Yu finally understood and burst out laughing—but quickly clapped his hand over his mouth, realizing the setting.

A fair duel?

Zheng Xinyu and the others looked at Wu Ge—bloodied, battered, barely standing—and then at Zhang Su—calm, clean, full of vigor. They felt he had utterly corrupted the meaning of “fair.”

“Don’t stand there! Pick up the fruit knife and attack me. Give me a chance to lose in the gutter. Go!”

Zhang Su tapped his fingers lightly on the knife sheath, tilting his head toward the fruit knife on the floor.

Wu Ge’s expression was worse than if his mother had just died. He hadn’t seen Zhang Su fight, but even with his knees, he knew this guy was dangerous. Even at full strength, he couldn’t beat him—how could he now, in this state?

He walked silently to the fruit knife, bent down, picked it up, and faced Zhang Su: “I, Wu Daqiang, admit defeat today. But before I die, I’ll clarify once more—I never forcibly took that high school girl. That was just tough talk when I joined the Salvation Society.”

Zhang Su frowned, stepped back a pace, and regarded Wu Daqiang seriously; after a moment, he kicked the fruit knife from his hand, pointing to the door: “Leave.”

Wu Daqiang’s eyes lit up, joy surging through him as if rescued from death’s grasp—he stammered, “R-really?”

“Don’t celebrate yet. With how you are now, you’d be torn apart by zombies the moment you step outside. Why should I bother?”

Zhang Su spread his hands and said.
