Chapter 30: Don't Be Deceived by the God's Eye View
"Look over there, look at Building 7, someone is controlling the drone!"
I don't know if Zheng Xin was lucky or sharp-eyed, but she quickly discovered that on the second floor of the middle unit of Building 7, someone was shrinking their body and controlling the drone in the air behind the window.
Just as Zhang Su looked at Building 7, he suddenly saw four figures appear at the corner of the building. And the person controlling the drone, seeing his companions coming, put the remote control on the windowsill and jumped out of the window without hesitation!
From the smooth operation of this group, one could see that it should have been a plan rehearsed for a long time. At least from the beginning to now, everything had gone very smoothly. It was just a pity that the real challenge had only just begun!
Second floor—although it was only three meters high, if one didn't master a little technique, it was entirely possible to fall into a disability. If they were unlucky, there was even a risk of death.
Clearly, the guy who dared to jump down wasn't reckless. When landing, he rolled forward, then fell flat on the ground—a bit raw, but effective in cushioning the impact of the landing.
The four people rushed to the man's side. One of the women pulled him up from the ground, and another man handed him a backpack. The man who jumped down didn't say a word, followed the crowd to run toward the wall, and put the backpack on his back while running.
Soon, the five people ran to the collapsed wall. However, just as they were preparing to cross the wall, a small group of zombies rushed out from the other side of the building!
Danger happened in a flash. Clearly, they hadn't expected that there would be zombies that hadn't been attracted away by the drone. In the panic, two people fell on the ruins at that time.
The zombies' movements looked stiff, but their speed was definitely not slow. When chasing prey, they could fully reach the speed of a human walking quickly. Soon, they pounced in front of the two who had fallen.
"They're in danger!"
Zhang Su's palm, holding the windowsill, turned white due to tension. In his mind, he tried to imagine how he would handle it if he encountered such a situation.
Zheng Xin and Zhong Xiaoshan had long clenched their fists, so nervous they didn't even dare to breathe, as if the ones fleeing for their lives weren't strangers, but them.
"Hurry and pick up bricks to smash them, the bag is too soft, it's useless!"
Zheng Xin saw the woman in the crowd using a travel bag to smash the zombie's head and was so anxious she gave advice directly.
It was as if someone in that group heard Zheng Xin's words. A man bent down and picked up a piece of wall debris as big as a watermelon and smashed it at the zombie. However, an outrageous thing happened...
Perhaps because he was too nervous, the man forgot to let go in time when smashing the debris, and the huge force caused him to stagger forward, actually falling from the collapsed ruins!
Facing zombies, even tripping on flat ground was very dangerous, let alone falling from a higher place. However, his fall actually knocked the zombies that were pouncing on the two companions away. The two who were trapped instantly gained a respite and crawled up with hands and feet!
"Hiss!!"
Zheng Xin and Zhong Xiaoshan gasped when they saw the man fall together with the zombies.
"It's not going well..."
Zhang Su said in a low voice, carrying a trace of desolation. Given the situation on the scene, unless they worked together to fight, only thermal weapons could save the man.
Thermal weapons were basically impossible, and working together to face zombies...
If it was in an organized and prepared situation, no problem. If it happened suddenly, they couldn't react at all!
Sure enough, as he expected, the reaction of the people on the ruins wasn't as good as the zombies' instinct. The zombies gathered around, and seeing blood and food in front of them, they immediately pounced excitedly, while the people on the ruins just watched helplessly.
Facing the attack of one zombie, an ordinary adult male, as long as he wasn't injured when ambushed, still had the possibility of winning. But if he faced the pounce of three or four zombies at the same time, and he had fallen into a mess...
The outcome was obviously tragic.
The zombies surrounded him. The man's terrified cries for help could be heard even by Zhang Su and the others from a distance of nearly a hundred meters. He waved his arms vigorously in the air, like a drowning person wanting to grab a straw, but no one could save him...
A zombie lowered its head and gnawed at the man's exposed neck. The man bled three feet on the spot!
Outside the window, the woman's hysterical shouting rang out. A woman in a windbreaker on the ruins was throwing broken stones at the zombie gnawing on the man like crazy. Unfortunately, it had no effect, and couldn't even block the speed of gnawing at all.
The huge shouting attracted zombies from other places. Seeing that, zombies separated from the team chasing the loudspeaker and ran toward the wall ruins.
A man in the team covered the woman's mouth, and another dragged her to run toward the other side of the road. One person remained, blocking the zombies climbing the ruins in a sloppy way, and then followed the pace of the others.
Soon, the figures of the few people disappeared behind the cover, and the man who raised the stone to smash the zombie remained under the ruins forever.
Just crossing the collapsed complex wall, and still having made some plans and preparations, yet death still occurred. How tragic.
"Those two people, they just ran away..."
Zheng Xin looked at the place where those people disappeared in disbelief, her eyes dull.
It was fine that the others didn't care about the man who fell, but the two who were saved didn't even reach out to help, which made her feel the horror of human nature.
Zhong Xiaoshan also couldn't accept it, her voice low: "There were only six zombies, and two had already fallen to the side. It definitely wouldn't be easy to kill all those zombies, but the four people together could have completely fought back and had a chance to save the deceased!"
"That's right." Zhang Su's voice was dull: "But ordinary people have no possibility of making the most favorable analysis and execution in a crisis. Fear and selfishness must occupy the dominant position. This is human nature. I think there's no need to feel guilty..."
"Unless they are well-trained soldiers, it's hard for anyone to naturally sacrifice their lives for the team and the whole. Don't be deceived by the God's eye view. If one day we encounter the same danger, we might not be able to do better than those guys who ran away!"
Zhang Su said very seriously. Seeing Zheng Xin and Zhong Xiaoshan looking at him with suspicious eyes, he continued: "As bystanders, we can imagine countless possibilities after the event, and then say the most favorable one, thinking we have really made the most favorable judgment. But if we become the ones involved..."
"Can you guarantee to react in just one second?"
Before the words fell, Zhang Su swung his arm quickly, and the axe stopped in front of the two.
"Ah..."
"Don't..."
Without any accident, the two's movements were surprisingly consistent—both closed their eyes and used their hands to block.
"See, when danger really comes, there's no chance for you to analyze slowly with the God's eye view. There's only an instinctive reaction, and this instinctive reaction isn't necessarily the optimal solution!"
Zhang Su stopped his arm movement and said slowly: "If it were the three of us... I could definitely run away if I only cared about myself. Given your current situation, you'd probably be done for. If I took care of you and escaped together, there's a fifty-fifty chance we'd both die!"
Zheng Xin and Zhong Xiaoshan looked at each other, their hearts filled with mixed feelings. Witnessing survivors being gnawed by zombies, they felt a sense of helplessness as if they were there.
"Then is there no way? I don't want to be a drag!"
Zheng Xin asked unwillingly, a trace of stubbornness in her eyes.
"Train."
Zhang Su's response was only one word.
It wasn't just training physical skills, but more importantly, courage, spirit, and reaction!
