Chapter 148: It Will Strike in T-Rex Form

~7 min read 1,346 words

【Master Fuli, when you went out, you must have brought your phone, right? Lin Ying, upon seeing that parasite, felt a jolt in her chest and instinctively pulled out her own phone to call Fuli.】

【Wish fulfilled: Fuli answers the call.】

"Huh?"

Amid the clatter of mahjong tiles, the fox, summoned to fill a missing seat, squatted on the mahjong table.

He froze solid when a vision of Lin Ying's wish suddenly flashed in his mind.

"The wish is for me to answer the phone? But I left my phone at home—I didn't bring it with me!"

An Sheng scratched his fox head. Lin Ying had indeed given him a phone, but since carrying it around was inconvenient, he always left it at home.

"By the way, what kind of parasite is so terrifying it scared Lin Ying? Could it be some parasite that evolved into a spirit and started treating intestinal worms as candy?"

An Sheng, noticing the wish list refresh, muttered a quiet, skeptical thought inside his mind.

An Sheng knew that in recent days, Lin Ying had gone to some kind of spirit beast research institute.

She said she was there to investigate the welfare conditions of spirit beasts living in dormitory-style housing—know thy enemy, so that when she ended up in prison, she'd have a big shot waiting to greet her.

Hmm. Lin Ying seemed especially worried—even if Master Fuli got arrested and sent to jail.

She. Cared deeply.

"An Sheng, what are you thinking about? Your turn." Yu Xueqing, seated at the mahjong table, placed a tile in the fox's paw and gestured for him to play.

"Ying ying ying—"

Hearing Yu Xueqing's call, An Sheng snapped out of his thoughts about the wish list. After a moment's hesitation, he let out a soft "ying" toward Mo Yiqing beside him.

Mo Yiqing blinked. She leaned over, staring at the tiles on the fox's table: "Did you win again?"

"Ying ying—"

The fox feigned confusion, glancing at his tiles with uncertain tone.

There, clearly displayed, was a 【Seven Minor Pairs】—and the deluxe version at that.

"Maybe? Fuli isn't sure, but the master told me this was how it works."

Yu Xueqing and Qiu Lingling froze, then leaned in toward the fox's table. Mo Yiqing's expression turned grave as she began organizing the fox's scattered tiles.

Finally, the deluxe Seven Minor Pairs layout emerged.

"Hssss—"

Mo Yiqing's face darkened. She felt yin and yang energies surge within her—heat rushing to her skull, coldness forming a giant hand squeezing her womb.

"No, no—I'm having my period. I can't play this cursed mahjong anymore."

Since Mo Yiqing had impulsively pulled out a mahjong set and played three rounds indoors, she'd already witnessed on the fox's table: one ground win, one Thirteen Orphans, two pure suits, and one Seven Minor Pairs.

True, there were no high-stakes bets—just bubble tea afterward.

But Mo Yiqing insisted this was no longer a simple game of mahjong.

She suspected the tiles were cursed.

Mo Yiqing tremulously swallowed ibuprofen to ease her abdominal cramps, then pulled out her phone and ordered four milk teas and the fox's winning chicken leg—she was done playing.

"An Sheng… won big?" Yu Xueqing stared at the tiles, frowning slightly.

She had no mahjong experience—only a little from her father about winning with chicken hands. As for complex tile combinations, she'd just Googled them and passed the tile patterns to the fox.

Things like counting fan or placing bets? She didn't understand any of it.

"If this were a fifty-one hundred game, the cash An Sheng just won would cover a down payment on a whole apartment."

"If you add in the horse betting, the money An Sheng just won could keep him locked up for five years," Qiu Lingling muttered, flipping through the last tiles in the wall.

"So it's reached sentencing standards now?" Yu Xueqing stared in shock at the fox, then at Mo Yiqing:

"So… you won all of Mo Mo's underwear and sanitary pads? No wonder she's curled up on the sofa clutching her stomach."

An Sheng looked at his tiny paw with a strange expression.

"To be honest, in my past life, I was just an average mahjong player—I always paid tuition to the old ghosts. I never imagined that after being reborn as a fox, I'd get a newbie protection period."

"If I'd known I was this good, I'd have gathered Old Chen, Gao Feng, and Yin Pengfei all at one table."

Just as the fox was marveling at his apparent gambling luck, Yu Xueqing's phone on the table rang.

Yu Xueqing glanced at it, picked up, and asked with mild confusion: "Hello? What's wrong, Dad?"

"Nothing's wrong. I just wanted to know if you're still at the old house. Old Chen said the tea master position is settled—he's going up the mountain to pick tea."

Yu Zhenghong rubbed his head on the other end.

For the past few days, he'd been running around handling tea competition procedures, land monitoring reports, and pesticide residue tests.

He was still waiting in line for his reports and had no time to return to Zhangxizhen. Chen Peipei was already at the tea estate.

So Yu Zhenghong called to ask if Yu Xueqing had returned from the seaside.

"Evening okay? We'll head back this afternoon." Yu Xueqing thought for a moment and replied.

"Evening? Then forget it. Keep playing. I'll drive over later." Yu Zhenghong sighed and hung up.

"Do you need to go back?"

Mo Yiqing, lying nearby, had overheard Yu Zhenghong's loud voice: "If there's something urgent, let's go back now. We can play anytime later—don't let trivial fun delay real matters."

Fun could wait.

But a chance to earn money? Miss it once, and it might never come again. Mo Yiqing was very practical in certain ways.

"Then let's head back early! We can visit the aquarium another time!" Yu Xueqing sighed deeply, a little embarrassed.

"Let's go!" Mo Yiqing said, glancing at the fox at the table—Qiu Lingling was still deep in discussion with him about gambling luck.

From Qiu Lingling's stunned expression, An Sheng's identity as a wealth-bringing fox was now fully confirmed.

Only… his fortune seemed to come with the risk of imprisonment.

"Huh? Where did all these lighters come from?" Yu Xueqing returned to her room to pack clothes. She pulled open a drawer to grab her keys.

But as she opened it, a dozen lighters filled her vision.

She found it odd—none of the three of them smoked or worshipped gods, yet these lighters…

"Lighters? All from Lord Yin. I sneak into his room every night to steal them," the fox chirped, explaining their origin to Yu Xueqing.

"Don't pick up random stuff! You might grab something laced with rat poison!" Yu Xueqing's face darkened. She pinched the fox's butt hard.

"Ying ying ying—" The fox yelped and jumped up, nearly using both paws to clutch his rear.

Moments later, everyone packed up. Qiu Lingling, due to her work location, drove off in the car they'd arrived in, taking a different route home.

"Enough!"

"I've bought you canned food, cat beds, even catnip! Why are you still harassing me, you damn cats?!"

After seeing off Qiu Lingling, Yu Xueqing and Mo Yiqing walked to the parking lot to drive back to Zhangxizhen.

In the parking lot, An Sheng ran into Yin Pengfei, who was now visibly unhinged.

"Meow!"

The thirty-pound stuffed plush cat stood upright, transforming into a T-Rex stance, and punched Yin Pengfei straight in the groin.

Yin Pengfei didn't cry out. He slid to his knees, clutched his family heirloom, and collapsed to the ground.

Around him, three overweight orange cats and two fierce white-gloved tabbies surrounded him.

"Meow—" The plush cat sneered.

At the parking lot entrance,

Yu Xueqing and Mo Yiqing stood frozen, mouths agape.

"I knew something was off—I hadn't seen Yin Pengfei's flashy ass in two days. Turns out he got taken out," Mo Yiqing said, wide-eyed, to Yu Xueqing:

"Aqing… what did those fat, bandit-like cats say?"
