Chapter 207: Vitality +4, Goodbye!

~7 min read 1,374 words

"Golden Dragon Sir, why aren't you talking anymore?"

An Sheng, crouched on the windowsill, grinned at the stunned Golden Dragon Sir and teased him.

"Personal valor is negligible; this great sir won't steal credit from fellow comrades," Golden Dragon Sir turned his gaze away, lifted his head, and let out a disdainful snort: "Heroism is unacceptable!"

As he spoke, Golden Dragon Sir subtly retreated onto his partner Jin Wanlin's shoulder, pulling his neck in, as if recalling the last time he faced the parasite alone.

The rocket launcher fired, blasting Golden Dragon Sir away.

The fungal parasite burst through the flames, gripping a deformed rocket launcher in its hand, and repeatedly slammed it into Golden Dragon Sir's head until it knocked the creature unconscious.

The parasite's brutality and madness left a deep impression on this little sand lizard.

"Ready!"

Feng Wenyu, hidden beneath the excavator, showed no surprise at the parasite's actions—his expression remained calm throughout.

Since the parasite's escape, the two had clashed before.

Just as the parasite knew human tactics, Feng Wenyu knew the parasite's patterns.

The parasite's current body was no longer flesh and blood in the traditional sense.

It resembled a plant more than a living creature; in a way, the fungal parasite was nothing but a walking mushroom.

Its internal fungi possessed only the instinct to reproduce; the human host provided the platform for reproduction, while the parasitic worms hidden within the host—and the human consciousness itself—were the true culprits driving the giant mushroom to rampage.

"Golden Dragon."

Hearing Feng Wenyu's command, Jin Wanlin, seated inside the prefab hut, spoke to Golden Dragon Sir.

"Fine, fine, I'll go—how's that? Besides, it's not me who'll get beaten later."

In front of his partner, the tough-guy Golden Dragon Sir flicked off his e-cigarette with a claw, kicked his little feet, and reluctantly agreed.

"Capture operation begins."

As Jin Wanlin spoke, he pulled an "adrenaline" injector from his leg strap and jabbed it into his thigh. Within moments, a subtle ripple emanated from within him outward.

"Hm?"

An Sheng's eyes widened in surprise as he stared at Jin Wanlin, who seemed to have undergone some strange change.

But before An Sheng could examine the change further, Jin Wanlin rose from the ground, gripped the grenade launcher he'd been cradling, and walked straight out the door.

"Boom!"

"Boom!"

Jin Wanlin stepped outside the prefab hut, raised the grenade launcher to his shoulder, and aimed sideways at the parasite diving rapidly toward the hut.

Two grenades exploded beside the parasite, covering a ten-meter radius with chemical smoke. The parasite's cold expression shifted slightly; it rolled forward in a tactical dodge and hid behind an engineering vehicle.

But Jin Wanlin ignored it, steadily advancing to weaken the parasite further.

One grenade struck the engineering vehicle; thick smoke erupted from its cargo panel, spreading through every crack and seam.

Upon contact with the chemical fog, the vehicle's paint peeled off as if aged for centuries, revealing rusted metal beneath.

"Nice work, partner! Smash its mouth!" Golden Dragon Sir, perched on Jin Wanlin's shoulder, perked up at his partner's advantage.

With Jin Wanlin holding the front, other team members hidden across the construction site raised grenade snipers to encircle and attack the parasite from a distance.

"Fuli."

The parasite slithered under the engineering vehicle, surged upward, lifted the entire machine, and charged straight at Jin Wanlin. Jin Wanlin's eyes widened—he rolled sideways instantly, daring not to clash head-on with the vehicle.

Jin Wanlin moved with astonishing speed; after landing from his roll, he spun around, raised his sniper, and prepared to fire.

But a black arm shot out from beneath the vehicle and blocked the barrel.

The parasite yanked hard, forcibly wresting the sniper from Jin Wanlin's grip.

A shadow flashed from beneath the vehicle, seized Jin Wanlin by the neck, and slammed him hard into the ground. Golden Dragon Sir leapt off his shoulder, lunged toward the parasite's face, and slashed with his scaled claws.

Three bloodied gashes appeared on the parasite's cheek.

Where Golden Dragon Sir's claws struck, the parasite's flesh collapsed instantly—its once plump, collagen-rich face shriveled and sagged.

Jin Wanlin, slammed to the ground, gripped the parasite's arm tightly with one hand, thrust his right foot forward, and ripped off one of the parasite's arms in an instant.

Feng Wenyu, hidden beneath the excavator, pushed off the ground with his arms, moved like lightning, crossed two hundred meters in a blink, and joined the diving raptor in a lethal strike aimed at the parasite's head.

Yet—

The parasite's head thrust upward, forcing its thick neck to thin like a soda can, perfectly dodging the intersecting shadows of the twin assassins.

"Golden Dragon!"

Jin Wanlin roared, his arm swelling as scale-like keratinous growths erupted from his skin; he punched the parasite's abdomen, aiming to extract the worms.

"This great sir's coming!"

Golden Dragon Sir scurried across the ground, his claws—capable of corrupting life—darting toward the parasite's crotch.

But the parasite took Jin Wanlin's punch head-on, then stomped down hard on Golden Dragon Sir, nearly crushing its guts out.

Feng Wenyu spun around, his foot mutating into an eagle's talon, and kicked straight for the parasite's skull.

…………

"Ding-ding-ding—"

The fierce battle on the construction site entered the melee phase after the first round of engagement; now, firearms were barely useful.

Since the parasite hadn't been eliminated in the initial ambush, once it closed in, continued use of firearms became pointless.

Unless those two large mechanical dogs were deployed.

Even as the battle raged on the site, a delivery truck pulled up outside the gate, honking loudly.

The white fox ducked as an excavator's cannon passed overhead, strolled calmly to the truck, stood on its hind legs, and waved at the driver.

"Fuli Sir, what are you doing here? This doesn't look like a film shoot."

The truck driver stepped out, saw a cannon projectile fly past and pierce the truck's cargo box, immediately ducked, and bowed to Fuli Sir.

"Ying-ying-ying! Ying-ying!"

An Sheng waved at the driver, signaling he needn't worry—inside, they were just dancing.

"Too brutal."

The delivery driver crouched down, raised his hand, and opened the truck's cargo door for Fuli Sir.

An Sheng ran inside, grabbed the giant hammer crafted for him by the golden hedgehog.

"This is the real deal! Going in barehanded to PVP? I'd be afraid of growing fungi all over me."

Holding his heavy iron hammer, An Sheng sighed with satisfaction, leapt out of the truck bed, returned to the construction site, and shut the gate behind him.

"Huh?"

The delivery driver, just raising his phone to record and livestream the scene to Lin Hao, wore a puzzled expression: "Fuli Sir is too stingy."

The driver's thoughts meant nothing to An Sheng, now back inside the site.

An Sheng hid the hammer behind a barrier, took a deep breath, and let out a loud, resonant "Ying!":

"Hey! Your Fuli Sir is here! Parasite scumbag, look over here!"

"Fuli!"

Upon seeing An Sheng appear, the parasite's colorful pupils rapidly dilated and contracted, radiating ecstatic joy; it completely ignored the two humans and two beasts blocking its path, and from its back erupted thick black mycelia that twisted into a massive hand.

The parasite spun rapidly, its back unfolding into wing-like membranes that flapped, smashing through obstacles, its eyes filled with desperate longing for union.

Perfect flesh. Right before it.

"Shhh—"

The parasite surged forward, wings flapping, arm reaching out to snatch An Sheng.

"Vitality +4! Goodbye!"

An Sheng locked his gaze on the shadow, raised his heavy iron hammer, and swung with all his might.

The hammer's swing unleashed a gale and a piercing shriek.

Though the parasite was fast, it could not escape An Sheng's dynamic vision lock.

The hammer face struck its face directly.

Upon contact, there was no sound—under the overwhelming, primordial force, the entire parasite shattered instantly, exploding into fragments that rained across the construction site's soil.

"I told you, Vitality +4, goodbye—you wouldn't believe it, so you flew right into my hammer. Now you believe me, right?"

Holding the hammer, An Sheng gazed at the scattered remains of his enemy and sighed.

"Hey! Golden Dragon Sir, come sweep the floor!"
