Chapter 283: My Roommate! Yu Xueqing

~7 min read 1,219 words

“Truly wealthy.”

After learning some rumors about Lin Ying and the Lin family, Mo Yiqing let out a soft whistle, glanced at the little fox lying flat on Yu Xueqing’s shoulder, and teased cheerfully:

“Too bad our little Xiao’an, though born with a grip, still can’t stand up to Miss Lin—just as useless as ever. Otherwise, this round would’ve kicked off a full-blown bull market in life.”

After listening to Yu Xueqing’s account, Mo Yiqing knew Lin Ying had strong connections, but she didn’t take it seriously.

If it were an ordinary rich person, she might’ve been curious enough to strike up a conversation, see if she could expand her family factory’s network.

But faced with Lin Ying—a hidden billionaire by family lineage—Mo Yiqing didn’t even bother asking.

Better to play with the little fox.

“Ying ying ying!”

“Yu Xueqing, what did the fox say?”

“Hmm, he says he feels malice—your gaze keeps fixed on his bell, like you’re planning to rip it off and build an atomic bomb.”

“Huh?”

The two girls and the fox reunited; though they hadn’t seen each other in a while, there was no awkwardness—they fell right into easy chatter. Mo Yiqing and Fuli bickered playfully, while Yu Xueqing provided full translation support.

Lin Ying, long gone, sat quietly in the VIP lounge, watching the scene outside the window.

“Miss, the earliest flight is in the afternoon,” Lin Bingyun returned to the lounge, glanced once at the window where the girl and fox laughed together, then turned back to Lin Ying.

“Mm.” Lin Ying replied, her tone lacking interest.

…………

Outside the airport, foot traffic thinned. Yu Xueqing laid her suitcase flat on the ground, placed the fox—growing from her neck—onto the suitcase, positioning it belly-up with all four paws in the air.

“Ying?”

An Sheng stared at Yu Xueqing, utterly baffled.

Didn’t we just have a nice chat, agreeing to buy supplies and eat our way around campus after school? Why suddenly flip me over?

Yu Xueqing said nothing, only frowned as she picked up the fox’s paws one by one, examining them closely.

“The wound… seems healed already?” Yu Xueqing still harbored doubts about what Lin Ying had said. In this low-traffic area, she began inspecting the soles of Xiao’an’s feet.

“Wait—you actually believe what Miss Lin said?”

“I’m not boasting about my toughness, but for my soles to bleed? That hot asphalt? You’re seriously underestimating my constitution. Bring a Harmony train—full load—and crush my toes with it!”

Hearing Yu Xueqing’s mutterings, An Sheng sneered and chirped back.

What century is this? Even an underloaded hundred-tonner is outdated now.

I’ve graduated from bumping into construction trucks—I now bump into Harmony trains. Think bigger!

“Stupid Xiao’an!”

Seeing the smug little fox, Yu Xueqing puffed her cheeks, pinched his soft belly, and scolded: “Next time, anything happens, you call me first. We talked about renting a place here and bringing you over for Mid-Autumn Festival.”

“No more sneaking out and getting yourself battered—got it?”

“If something happens, find Yu Xueqing. This time, if you hadn’t met Aunt Lin Ying, but instead ran into some forestry officer or dog-catcher, you’d be running for your life in the forest with bears now!”

“Ying ying ying!” An Sheng waved dismissively—he’d ridden in forestry pickup trucks before.

“Still grinning? Next time, I’ll shear every last hair off you—turn your fur from a single stripe into a showerhead, so you pee all over your paws.”

Seeing the fox rolling around the suitcase, grinning, Yu Xueqing sighed, half-angry, half-amused, and tapped his bell.

An Sheng froze mid-roll, sucked in a sharp breath, and stared at Yu Xueqing: “Are we really going this far?”

“You’ve already cut my fur before—now you’re threatening again? I swear, while you sleep, I’ll shear yours!”

“Ying ying! Wow—Master is so cruel! But brave little fox fears no threats! I’ll sneak up while you sleep and plant one right on your butt!”

“Hey! Little brat’s threatening me now? Tonight, I’ll sit on you till you’re dead,” Yu Xueqing snapped, pinching his cheeks and forcing a stern expression:

“Say it: ‘Yu Xueqing, I’m sorry!’”

“Ying.”

“What are you two whispering in the corner? I got a taxi—put your luggage in the back!”

Mo Yiqing, having hailed a taxi, spotted the girl and fox crouched by a pillar near the terminal, whispering, oblivious that she’d already called a ride. She called out to them:

“Young lady! I’m not trying to cheat you—but are you sure you want to go to the Xiqi Panda Ecological Zone? Whatever the meter says, you pay it—don’t post me online, okay?”

Seeing Mo Yiqing’s destination, the taxi driver sucked in a sharp breath.

A hundred kilometers by taxi?

“Just drive. I don’t have much cash, but I can afford the fare,” Mo Yiqing waved off.

For school, only first-year theory classes allowed Didi straight to campus. Second- and third-year campuses? Maps didn’t even list them. By third year, it got absurd—you had to crawl through caves and cross village paths.

Now in fourth year, Mo Yiqing had learned. She hired local taxis and showed the driver the address the advisor posted in the group.

Doesn’t matter how much it costs—I just want to get there safely.

I don’t want another third-year start-of-term experience: some evil map leading me to a cliff’s edge, forcing me to pay 30,000 yuan so a tour guide could carry me up the mountains in a sedan chair.

In the past, Mo Yiqing would’ve booked a Didi Premium, lounging with massage seats, lazily enjoying the ride back.

But after third year’s nightmare, she’d never again risk luxury for a taxi.

Sometimes, locals are the only reliable ones.

“Hey, Xiao Ling? Where are you? Me and Yu Xueqing are already here, heading to campus.” Mo Yiqing called her roommate, asking where everyone was.

They’d taken the 10 a.m. flight; they landed past 1 p.m.

Airplane snacks were fine, but not a meal. Mo Yiqing wanted to know if the other two roommates, who’d promised to return today, had arrived yet.

If they had, they’d go out to eat together.

“.Mo Mo! Don’t come to campus! Bears! Waaah—there are so many bears, Lingling’s stuck on a wall!”

Hearing the special ringtone, Ling Ren—climbed up a tree to hide from pandas, exhausted from pulling herself up on a bar—perked up, summoned every last ounce of strength, and dangled one-handed from the tree branch as she answered Mo Yiqing’s call in a sweet, pleading tone:

“Bears?!”

Mo Yiqing froze, turned to the taxi driver: “Are there bears where we’re going?”

“No pandas, how could it be called the Panda Ecological Zone?” the driver asked, bewildered. “You don’t even know there are wild pandas there—why go?”

“Driver, shut up—how far are we from there?”

“About twenty kilometers.”

“Can you speed up safely? Extra three thousand yuan service fee on top of fare?”

As she spoke, Mo Yiqing handed the phone to Yu Xueqing:

“Xiao Ling’s crotch—turn on speaker! I’m letting Yu Xueqing negotiate with the pandas. Hold on—we’ve got Yu Xueqing’s backup, this should be fine!”

“Yu Xueqing, pick up! Lingren’s about to die—the pandas are crawling into her pants!”

“Huh?”

Yu Xueqing stared, eyes wide: “Are pandas planning to reincarnate in Lingren?”

“Wait—that doesn’t make sense! Wild pandas in Changancheng?”
