Chapter 32: The Secret Institution Standing Alone at the Village Entrance Information Station (Request Monthly Tickets)

~6 min read 1,114 words

After greeting Yu Xueqing, An Sheng pulled out some beef jerky from the delivery box and left the house.

When he reached the courtyard, An Sheng didn’t forget to urinate in the flowerbed.

The once-pristine Dragon-Gan Spear had been turned into a sprinkler by Yu Xueqing’s antics.

After urinating onto the parched soil, An Sheng shifted his stance, ready to leap over the wall into the neighbor’s yard.

But as An Sheng climbed onto the wall, his peripheral vision caught a tiny green sprout emerging from the dried flowerbed—right where he had previously filled in the dog hole.

“Did a iron tree bloom?”

Perched on the wall, An Sheng stared in surprise at the newly sprouted green shoot.

The flowerbed had a rain shelter, but since Yu Zhenghong and his family moved to the city, the plants had received no rainwater—the soil had dried out completely.

And when An Sheng had sealed the dog hole, he had urinated there.

The seed had absorbed the nutrients and broken through the soil.

An Sheng glanced at it twice; though he could tell the sprout was some kind of shrub tea plant, he couldn’t yet identify its exact variety.

An Sheng planned to water the little green shoot when he returned.

“Woof—”

An Sheng jumped into Laifu’s house, the fox’s mouth holding a large piece of beef jerky, barking with a distinct accent.

A lean, lightning-fast Labrador protruded its head from inside, barked once at the low wall.

“Woof—”

Seeing Laifu looked in decent spirits, An Sheng leapt directly from the wall into the courtyard and offered him yak beef jerky.

“Woof woof woof”

Laifu, seeing the food, gave An Sheng two listless barks—his appetite still poor—and sat on the ground, legs spread, licking his wound.

Seeing this, An Sheng felt a faint ache in his bells, his fox face scrunched up; he raised a paw and patted Laifu reassuringly:

“It hasn’t grown back yet. Maybe when technology advances, they’ll install two stainless steel ones. Besides, you’ve enjoyed it before.”

“You’ve got two full months until heat season—plenty of time to rest and recover.”

An Sheng comforted Laifu with a look of deep pity.

Laifu had once been the neighborhood bully, using his heavyweight frame and the iron tail of a water dog to sniff any puppy’s rear he pleased.

But now, with both bells lost, Laifu had developed a phobia of social interactions.

After An Sheng’s reassurance and the salty, savory aroma of yak beef, Laifu regained some appetite, devoured the jerky, then wolfed down two pounds of dog food.

“Woof—”

Laifu barked at An Sheng; the fox-dog duo leapt over the wall together.

An Sheng moved swiftly, leaping in one bound onto the wall and landing outside the courtyard.

But Laifu lacked the fox’s agility—he simply ran to the gate, clawing at the crossbeam like a prison escapee, inching his way up step by step.

Yet Laifu was highly practiced; he slipped out without making much noise.

“Let’s go! Patrol the village!”

An Sheng leapt onto Laifu’s back, and Laifu carried the fox around the village.

“Woof—”

When passing dog-owning households, Laifu paused to greet them, asking if they wanted to play.

But most dogs stayed inside—they were mostly local hunting dogs who, as night fell, instinctively refused to go out, preferring to guard their homes.

Only one shepherd dog, responding to Laifu’s invitation to roam and mark territory, slipped out quietly.

The two dogs and one fox wandered the night streets, occasionally marking utility poles to claim territory.

An Sheng didn’t join the marking—he quietly browsed his mental wish list.

And listened as Laifu communicated with other dogs.

Though a red fox, An Sheng belonged to the Canidae family like the others, and he could faintly hear the dogs’ conversations and pheromonal signals.

【I might die. I’m so sorry—I truly am. From now on, I won’t appear in your life again—he was in terrible shape from drunkenness, but his lust surged, his mind filled entirely with the exquisite figure of Room 69.】

【Wish fulfilled: A glass of water (Room 69’s technique at Blue Sea Linglong Hotel—beautiful appearance, affordable price, kind discounts for customers—you delivered him there).】

“What the hell kind of dying man still thinks about a hotel masseuse?”

While strolling through the town, An Sheng’s wish list suddenly refreshed with a bizarre task.

After reading it, An Sheng rolled his eyes, barked twice to signal Laifu and the shepherd dog to stop.

An Sheng leapt over a roof, followed the stench of alcohol, found the dazed young man who had wished for him, and went into the kitchen to pour him a glass of water.

【Wish fulfilled: Ji Chong no longer feels discomfort.】

【Wish power +1】

An Sheng stole some ham from Ji Chong’s fridge to bring back as a makeshift midnight snack for Laifu and the shepherd dog.

Laifu took two bites—still uninterested—but the new shepherd dog, after gorging himself, looked at An Sheng with a subtle air of reverence.

Could enter houses. Could steal food. Could tear open packaging.

To the shepherd dog’s mind, that meant An Sheng could snatch food from humans and win—absolutely heroic!

“Woof—”

An Sheng barked once; the Woof Team continued, marking territory and gathering village gossip.

【I wish I’d held her hand back then. Sigh—I wonder how she’s doing now. It’s been eight years—I lie awake alone, remembering my college white moonlight.】

【Wish fulfilled: White moonlight (Eighty thousand yuan in bride price crushed his spine; after achieving success, what was once unattainable gains a nostalgic filter).】

“Is there a Cao Cao?”

Seeing the new wish, An Sheng glanced at the eight-story self-built house beside him, his expression strange.

An eight-story elevator apartment still worried about finding a girlfriend?

He’s probably climbed more mountain ravines than this single dog has ever seen.

Conclusion: Purely overfed and can’t sleep.

“Woof—”

An Sheng’s eye twitched slightly, signaling Laifu to keep moving—don’t linger here watching dogs flaunt wealth.

【This is trouble. How did a wild boar suddenly show up at Shou Gou Jian? Has Green Mountain and Qing Mountain recovered so well? Even though wild boars are no longer on the protected list, private hunting and trapping are still banned—Chen Fengshui lay on his bed, pondering how to solve the wild boar infestation.】

【Wish fulfilled: Hunt to your heart’s content—how dare a mere trio defy the National Level Two? (At first, Zhangxizhen villagers thought it was just a wild boar, but wild boars don’t travel alone—they’ve overrun the area).】

“Old Chen?”

As they wandered, they unconsciously reached the village chief’s gate; An Sheng frowned and said:

“Is Xia Dong also having wild boar trouble? That’s truly unusual.”
