Chapter 226
On Earth, the light of the Bifrost flashed across the sky, and Sif, along with the Warriors Three, landed smoothly on Earth. All four were fully armed and prepared for battle.
However, before they could clearly see the surrounding environment, a portal opened directly in front of the four. Wong, who stepped out of the portal, glanced at the four and bowed slightly, "The four of you, please come with me."
"Midgardian mage, where are you taking us?" Volstagg, one of the Warriors Three, stood in front of Wong. His massive frame allowed him to look down at Wong, and his huge belly was almost touching Wong.
Volstagg used to be a handsome, sturdy young man, but ever since he got married and had a family, Volstagg's physique had skyrocketed as if he were being inflated.
"The Himalayas, to register you." Wong responded calmly. From the moment the Mage Tower began to be built, Earth was no longer a place they could come to at will. The Bifrost would have been intercepted by the defense network while it was brewing, but the Ancient One on Earth did not order an interception, only telling Wong to bring the guests back to the Himalayas first.
"We are here to find Prince Thor." Volstagg frowned, looking at Wong, who only reached his waist.
Wong tilted his head slightly, raised an eyebrow, and looked at this big guy, "So?"
"So, you just need to tell us where the Prince is! We won't go with you! And we certainly won't do any damn registration! Do you understand? Little guy!" Volstagg was overbearing, implying that he was an elite warrior of Asgard, and these Midgardians had better be obedient.
"Is that what you all think?" Wong said, looking at the others.
Sif wanted to say something to ease the atmosphere; after all, Frigga had warned her not long ago not to underestimate the Ancient One and the Mage Association.
However, Hogun, who was beside her, tugged at Sif's hem. To be honest, in the eyes of Hogun and the others, for a place as extremely backward as Midgard to dare to communicate with them on equal footing was already an offense.
This was the sense of superiority of being an Asgardian.
After all, in Asgard's propaganda, Midgard was a vassal state of Asgard, and a bitter, cold land at that.
"Then that is truly a pity." Wong said, taking a step back.
Instantly, a giant net composed purely of magical energy appeared in the sky. As the magic flowed within the grid, several high-level spells locked onto Volstagg and the other three, ready to be unleashed.
"This is the final notice. If you do not come with me to register, I can only identify you as invaders. We will use any means to expel the invaders; do not say you were not warned." Wong issued an ultimatum.
Under the deterrence of powerful magic, Volstagg and the others felt a chill down their spines. A warrior's sixth sense told them that an irresistible crisis was about to arrive.
"This is a misunderstanding!" Sif quickly stepped forward; she dared not gamble on whether the Midgardians would dare to take action. "We are here to inform you of some important intelligence regarding a fleet that is about to attack you."
Wong remained silent. Whatever fleet it was, that was not something he needed to consider. What he needed to consider was to carry out the rules that the Ancient One had already set.
Sensing that the crisis had not dissipated, Sif became a bit anxious and nudged Volstagg, "Apologize to him."
"I am very sorry, I was just rambling." Volstagg apologized quite readily. Once he determined that the opponent's strength was worthy of his respect, he immediately changed his style of conduct. When he apologized, his posture was quite standard; even with a huge belly sticking out, he bent his waist.
Wong did not press his advantage, calmly accepting Volstagg's apology, "Follow me. After you finish registering, I will tell you Thor's location."
On the way to the Mage Association, Volstagg lagged behind, walking side by side with Sif.
"They are much tougher than when I last came, and did you see the network in the sky? That must be a powerful magic formation." Volstagg whispered.
Sif glanced at Volstagg. In Asgard, Volstagg had always been a good-natured elder figure and held a certain prestige among the Warriors Three; otherwise, he wouldn't have been the one to step forward to negotiate just now.
"When was the last time you came?"
"Hmm... about five hundred years ago." Volstagg recalled and said.
Sif didn't know what to say. Five hundred years ago, the Ancient One had not yet completely reorganized the entire Earth's mage forces. Most Midgardians of that era saw Asgardians as if they were seeing gods, but things were different now.
"Don't forget our purpose; it doesn't matter if we suffer a little grievance." Hogun interjected.
"I don't really feel aggrieved. Since their power has increased, they naturally have the right to talk to us on equal terms." Volstagg replied.
"Whether it's equal or not is one thing, but have you noticed that the girls here are much prettier than before?" Fandral's eyes wandered over the girls around them, focusing on their long legs.
"Alright, talk less, we're almost there." Sif reminded him.
A few minutes later, Wong led the four through a magic barrier and entered the central area of the Mage Association.
"Everyone, we have arrived. Please come with me one by one." Wong stopped in front of a tower emitting terrifying energy and said to the people behind him.
Sif looked up at the top of the tower, which was obscured by white clouds. This place gave her the feeling of being in Asgard's magic research center, filled everywhere with magical radiance that was difficult to identify.
After taking turns following Wong to register their spiritual fluctuations, energy markers, and other data, the four received a temporary ID card, which was issued by the Mage Association and counted as a kind of entry permit.
"Can you tell us where Thor is now?" Sif asked Wong.
Wong waved his hand, and an image appeared—a three-dimensional magic map of New York. He pointed to a small three-story villa, "This is Thor's residence here, located in New York City, Eagle Country. If you want to go there, I personally suggest you contact Eagle Country before entering, otherwise, it is easy to cause conflict."
"Is this... not enough?" Sif shook the ID card in her hand.
"This is a pass for the magical world. The place you are going to is a country of ordinary humans; these are two different things." Wong explained.
Hogun became a bit impatient, "Can't you just get it done all at once? Why make it so troublesome?"
"If I get a pass for Asgard, can I enter and exit your palace at will?" Wong asked back.
"Of course not, but if you have a pass for the palace, you can naturally go to other regions of Asgard." Hogun retorted, implying that your Mage Association actually has no jurisdiction over the ordinary human world?!
"Every civilization has its own differences; you should learn to do as the locals do." Wong continued to answer.
"Alright, alright."
Seeing that another argument was about to break out, Sif quickly interrupted, "Mage, could you please tell us how to contact the people of that country?"
"The United Nations has a branch agency on the hill next to us." Wong pointed to the mountain peak nearby.
"Okay, also, do we have to walk there?" Sif continued to ask.
"No, you can use your own abilities now, but please do not use magic or combat techniques that will disturb others." Wong replied.
"Okay, sorry to bother you, we won't stay any longer." Sif said, patting Hogun's arm, signaling that it was time to leave.
Hogun was a bit indignant. He was the one who reacted most strongly to the change in Earth's attitude; after all, Volstagg was rational enough, and Fandral's attention was on the beauties.
"They should learn what it means to be polite." Mordo walked to Wong's side and spoke up.
Wong glanced at Mordo, "You only just learned that recently yourself."
"Then, since you talk like that, shouldn't you review it?" Mordo retorted.
"Hmph." Wong turned and walked away. After knowing that Mordo had been secretly researching the power of the Dark Dimension in private, Wong had found this guy very unpleasant.
Ten minutes later, inside the United Nations agency, after simple verification, Sif and the four obtained visa permits for 90% of the countries on Earth, and also received a temporary account containing some US dollars converted from Asgardian gold coins.
"Why do we have to exchange gold coins for this meaningless currency?" Fandral felt a bit pained thinking about the month's salary he had just handed over.
"Gold coins cannot be used directly here. Do you expect Prince Thor to pay to support us?" Volstagg asked back.
Fandral stopped talking immediately. How could Thor have any spare money? Back in Asgard, Thor was a big spender, and after he finished spending his money, he sometimes had to borrow from them; after all, asking Odin or Frigga was easy to get scolded.
"Actually, I think the intelligence about the Chitauri fleet could be used to make a point." Hogun continued, "The exchange rate is too much of a loss; we only exchanged one million US dollars. The value of the currency is simply not equivalent."
"Whether to give the intelligence, when to give it, and how to give it must be decided by Thor." Sif explained from the side.
Hogun shrugged and didn't say anything more.
A few hours later, through the internal flights of the United Nations, Sif and the others arrived directly at New York airport.
Along the way, Hogun continued to complain incessantly about the speed of the plane. It took so long to fly such a short distance; if this were in Asgard, just transferring through a portal and walking a few steps wouldn't even take ten minutes, and that was being generous.
Volstagg patted Hogun, "Restrain yourself, don't bring too much personal emotion into this. I'll treat you to a drink tonight."
"Fine, I hope the drinks here have some class." Hogun finished and shut his mouth.
Without Hogun's harassment, the others felt much quieter all of a sudden.
Hogun was definitely a reliable comrade in battle, but in everyday life, some of his behaviors were quite annoying.
Perhaps because his own small country had collapsed and perished due to an accident, leaving only him, Hogun had always craved attention and a sense of presence, and he particularly hated being ignored.
This sometimes made people feel he was very annoying, but they were all brothers who had been through life and death, so everyone could accept it.
After all, who didn't have some flaws? For example, Fandral always liked to tell unfunny cold jokes and liked to hang around women, while Volstagg liked to preach, preaching with the attitude of a parent, and could ramble on for hours.
Sif went without saying; most of the time, she was quite normal, but when things involved Thor, her intelligence would suffer a serious short circuit, leading her to do things that were hard to understand afterward.
A few hours later, after experiencing traffic jams, detours, and other things, Sif and the others finally arrived at the residential area where Thor was. By this time, the sky had already darkened, and the night was deep.
After dropping the four off, the driver quickly drove away. These people were a bit strange; each of them was dressed abnormally and loved to say things that ordinary people couldn't understand. Fortunately, their weapons had been packed away in advance, otherwise, the driver would have probably called the police directly.
"I think this place might not be too backward." Volstagg said seriously while walking into the residential area.
"Indeed, along the way, I felt multiple energy reactions. Although none were strong, they were all basically flourishing. Obviously, they are in a period of rapid development." Sif added.
While they were talking, Fandral had already run to the front of Thor's small villa. After waving to the three who were lagging behind, Fandral straightened his armor and patted the door hard.
"Thor! Thor! Thor!"
The door opened, and Jane looked at the four people outside, "You're looking for Thor? Who are you?"
Fandral paused, leaning half against the wall, tidying his hair, and even let out a vocal fry, "Beautiful lady..."
"Alright, stop acting crazy here." Volstagg pushed Fandral away. This guy didn't even look at the occasion when picking up girls; could you pick up a girl living with Thor?
"We are the Warriors Three of Asgard, Thor's subordinates. Is he here?" Volstagg was quite polite to Jane, while also slightly hiding Sif's identity.
"Oh~ I know you. He told me about you. Come in first." Jane greeted the four to enter the house and sit down, "Wait a moment, I'll go upstairs and call him for you."
"Okay, sorry to trouble you." Volstagg said.
Hogun, who was beside him, nudged Volstagg and raised his eyebrows toward Sif's position.
Sif, sitting on the sofa, had her arms crossed, her face expressionless, and her eyes locked on Jane, who was going upstairs.
Volstagg poked Hogun with his elbow and gave him a look, signaling him to remember to break up the fight if they started fighting later.
Damn it, if he had known Thor had a beautiful lady at home, they should have come during the day. Coming during the day, they could have used excuses like being friends, but in the middle of the night, it was hard to find a reason to convince themselves.
Sif was in no mood to care about Hogun and the others' little actions. She patted the dust off her armor, straightened her slightly messy clothes, and at the same time, recalled the intelligence about the Chitauri several times in her heart.
Wait a moment, after Thor came down, she would definitely perform perfectly, a perfection that would make that girl feel ashamed of herself!
