Chapter 9: Sequence 9—Diviner
From Marvel, Starting as a Genie
"Mortal, are you the one prying into my power?"
Ding Hao appeared behind Johnson, his voice deep, the sound waves echoing and resonating in the room, making the voice full of mysterious flavor.
Johnson was startled by the suddenly appearing voice. Turning around and seeing Ding Hao, the expression on his face changed rapidly.
First was terror—he didn't expect that he had really summoned some mysterious existence, and it had appeared behind him.
Then was surprise—mystery was indeed real, and his pursuit for so long hadn't been a waste of time. He was indeed correct.
Finally was doubt—Ding Hao's figure was stepping on the circle surrounded by refined salt and sea salt, but this defensive measure didn't seem to have exerted any effect.
"So..."
Ding Hao blinked. "Is this what you sought by calling the Genie? To let salt become some kind of mysterious symbol? If so, your wish is about to be fulfilled."
"No, no." Johnson shook his head, then muttered about the "Genie" in Ding Hao's words. After a few seconds, he asked cautiously, "Genie, may I ask which myth this mysterious existence belongs to? Aladdin's Genie? An Eastern Genie? Or something else? Which item in my ritual pointed to you? Did the other symbols not exert any effect?"
It had to be said, although Johnson wasn't a "Lord Ye," he wasn't overly afraid after the "dragon" appeared, but his thinking was obviously a bit skewed.
"I am the Genie, and the Genie is me. I do not exist in any myth, and your ritual did not truly point to me," Ding Hao looked at Johnson and explained very patiently. He liked this kind of mortal who was firm in will, had pursuits, and had a spirit of exploration.
"Then what price do I need to pay to make a wish to you?" Johnson looked at the Genie, and various myths and legends flashed through his mind. In those myths, most people who got something for nothing didn't have a good ending in the end.
"You guess. Maybe I just appeared before you out of boredom, maybe after you make a wish, I will take away your soul?" Ding Hao said with a hint of intimidation.
Is my soul very valuable?
Johnson asked himself in his heart, then shook his head. It was likely not so. If it were really very valuable, after more than a hundred rituals before, there shouldn't have been no reaction. So maybe he was really a bit bored and intended to generously fulfill his wish?
"Is it because of boredom?" Johnson asked.
"You guessed right." Ding Hao couldn't be bothered to put on that mysterious appearance anymore. He didn't need that kind of image to prove anything for himself or bring any benefits. "I intend to fulfill a small wish for you. You can start thinking about it now."
A small wish...
Johnson thought deeply for a moment, raised his head, and looked at the Genie. "I hope I will be allowed to continue walking on this path of exploring mystery!"
Wonderful. Sure enough, I still like talking to smart people. Ding Hao looked at Johnson and felt a little happy. Johnson and Frank had one thing in common: after deciding to make a wish, they didn't set various limitations like many people, fearing that their interests wouldn't be maximized. Instead, they gave enough room for play.
This point is quite correct when a non-mysterious person prays to a mystery.
Because, if the mystery summoned is malicious, doing anything is meaningless, and it will lead to tragedy. But if the mystery is benevolent, this behavior will succeed in profiting. If it is neutral, this behavior will not cause loss of interest.
So, overall, this is one of the best choices when facing the unknown without any prior knowledge.
"In the name of the Genie, I announce that your wish is about to be fulfilled!"
Ding Hao opened his arms, and brilliant golden light permeated the entire house, dazzling and mysterious.
Johnson looked at Ding Hao and blinked, waiting honestly.
"Choose one on the ground. It will determine which of the thousands of paths will favor you," Ding Hao was very satisfied with Johnson's actions and said to him.
Johnson looked down, searched through various crafts for a long time, and finally chose a pocket watch with a thin, long gold chain.
Pocket watch... prophecy... divination...
Ding Hao inexplicably thought of a certain poor god who claimed to be "The Fool."
With this, Ding Hao decided to change his mind. He had originally intended to refer to the magic net of a certain world and make Johnson a mage, but now, it seemed there was a more interesting choice.
High above, the pure energy battery of the Cosmic Demon God version, which Ding Hao had rolled into a ball, was attracted and poured down.
After falling into Ding Hao's hands, after secondary cleaning, guidance, modification, and compilation, it turned into an opaque small black bottle and fell before Johnson.
Inside this was Ding Hao's version of Sequence 9—Diviner Potion, with a bit less pollution and a bit less chaos than the original version.
And most importantly, because it had been filtered and deleted by Ding Hao, this sequence was separated from the original version, meaning its Sequence 0 to Sequence 8 were currently all vacant, so there was no need to worry about competing with others.
Following that, Ding Hao left two pieces of paper under the potion and vanished from the room.
When Johnson regained his senses, there were only a few items left by Ding Hao before him.
When in doubt, read the manual first.
The first piece of paper clearly wrote: Sequence 9—Diviner Potion, take it to take effect. Below was the potion formula and introduction to extraordinary abilities for the Diviner.
After reading all the introductions with excitement, Johnson looked at the second piece of paper.
It wrote: Sequence 8—Clown. Most of the area on this paper besides the name was marked out, and finally, a paragraph was written in small letters.
"Go and pursue it. Every time you discover one of my favored ones, a field of information will be unlocked. Hint: Don't think about using divination ability to cheat directly~"
After reading, the two pieces of paper flew into Johnson's body.
Mysterious ability! Mysterious profession!
Thank you, generous Genie!
Johnson prepared to thank him, but stopped halfway through the gesture. He didn't know what gesture pointed to the Genie. He couldn't draw a cross, could he?
However, this small problem didn't affect Johnson's mood. He rubbed his hands, then decisively picked up the potion, opened the cap, and swallowed it in one gulp.
The viscous, silky, wriggling taste went from his throat all the way to his stomach, and the power contained in the potion also exploded directly.
In an instant, the scene before Johnson's eyes changed. The colors of everything became abnormally brilliant, and the images changed, but they didn't move toward a deformed direction, but became increasingly gorgeous and full of mysterious feeling.
When the spirituality was completely integrated, Johnson let out a long breath of relief, and the pocket watch in his hand swayed without wind. ===== CHAPTER 10 =====
