Chapter 1069
【Truth】 The Ownership of Authority
Another one in a hurry to pick up their child.
【Fate】 made no effort to hide the urgency in their eyes; all the gods present could see that they simply wanted to go and protect the believers still abandoned in the void.
Although 【Truth】's experiment bypassed the prison area they had set up, this method was, after all, meant to restrict the gods. Once the gods were pulled into the Covenant Assembly by 【Justice (Order)】, who knew if the void there was still safe.
However, the other gods clearly didn't care about this; only 【Nurture】 and 【Fate】 remained unable to set their minds at ease.
Seeing this, 【Deception】 smiled mockingly, and 【Justice (Order)】 hesitated for a moment before asking a rare question unrelated to the assembly.
"Is the truth sought by 【Truth】 truly outside this space-time?"
【Fate】's reply was categorical: "I do not know."
This sentence made 【Deception】 look at 【Memory】 with a half-smile, while 【Memory】 silently lowered their gaze.
Since 【Truth】 self-destructed, no god knew that 【Fate】 had sealed memories here with them.
【Fate】's response was not yet over; they continued:
"I only know that the predetermined path has not yet been severed, so even if truth truly exists in the universe, it must surely be within this space-time I see.
【Truth】's path was wrong; they went astray.
As for the other space-times you all imagine, hmph, that is nothing but a grand, deceptive lie spread by 【Deception】 and 【Time】 in collusion.
I had originally thought that even if 【Existence】 stood in opposition to 【Void】, at least in their piety toward 【*Him】, they were no different.
But now it seems, I was terribly wrong.
【Existence】 truly should not exist."
Saying this, 【Fate】 coldly glared at 【Memory】 and left the assembly directly.
A grand, deceptive lie spread by 【Deception】 and 【Time】 in collusion?
Why does that sound so awkward?
【Deception】 certainly likes to lie, but does 【Time】 have the time to lie?
If not, then what on earth are they busy with all day long?
Gods know far more than mortals and understand this world better; they also have all sorts of speculations about the universe and the 【Origin】, but now it seems that some have already gotten ahead in their understanding of this world, such as 【Void】, such as 【Time】, and such as 【Folly】, as well as the recently deceased 【Truth】.
Actually, one can guess that the secret which caused 【Truth】 to self-destruct to prove themselves is likely not what 【Fate】 claimed. If truth really exists under this starry sky, then why would 【Truth】 destroy everything in the present to reconstruct a new world?
Therefore, this experiment by 【Truth】 not only brought the truth to themselves but also inspired others to imagine the secrets beyond the universe, causing them to once again set their sights on 【Void】 and the two masters of this era.
Driven by the desire for knowledge and curiosity, no one wanted to remain ignorant of the truth.
But perhaps only a few have learned the truth; to quickly keep up, one must make a choice between the authority of 【Truth】 and the truth of the universe.
【Annihilation】 knew they couldn't get half a vote, and after pondering for a long time, they felt that 【Memory】, as the sibling god of 【Time】, probably also knew something. Furthermore, their purpose in participating in the assembly was simple: to prevent 【Void】 from obtaining the authority and causing them more trouble. So, after 【Void】 lost the right to be voted for, they decided to cast their vote for 【Memory】.
They wanted to obtain some useful memories from 【Memory】.
The two gods exchanged words for a moment, but 【Memory】 remained noncommittal.
They didn't feel they had any collection items to share with 【Annihilation】, so they did not respond.
But 【Annihilation】 counted the gods present and really couldn't find a good candidate to vote for; even if just to win over 【Void】's opponent, they had no choice but to cast this vote for 【Memory】.
There was one other who had the same thought as 【Annihilation】. Although 【Order Iron Law】 had no grudge against 【Void】, they also wanted to know about some past events.
They often felt lost about their own identity, always feeling that they might have lost some memory, so they also cast their vote for 【Memory】.
【Memory】 suddenly received two votes, taking the temporary lead.
The remaining few were in no rush to act; they were still observing.
Calling it observation was actually just waiting for 【Deception】's move.
It wasn't hard to see that, besides 【Memory】, the only ones who hadn't voted were 【Death】, 【Silence】, and 【Chaos】.
One didn't need to be told what these three votes consisted of. 【Deception】 had originally thought that as long as they could pull in 【Nurture】's vote, they could secure 【Truth】's authority, but they hadn't expected 【Nurture】 to anxiously vote for themselves, and coupled with 【Fate】's wasted vote, they now seemed unable to monopolize 【Truth】's legacy for the Fear faction.
Since they couldn't take it, 【Death】 and 【Silence】's votes wouldn't go to 【Chaos】 either; after all, on the surface, they were not in an alliance with 【Deception】.
Thus, the situation reached a stalemate.
The gods were each shrewd and had almost guessed the outcome. If no one compromised, then 【Truth】's final decree would continue endlessly, and what the world would become under 【Truth】's experiment would be truly unpredictable. The finale of the 【Void】 era might also exclude them, leaving only those not present at the table to perform to their heart's content.
Therefore, everyone would surely compromise, and the way to compromise was to choose a third party that everyone felt most at ease with and which would result in the lowest loss to obtain 【Truth】's authority.
And this third party, looking around for now, seemed to only be...
【Nurture】.
For no other reason than stability.
So, in the next second, 【Death】, 【Silence】, and 【Memory】 simultaneously voted for 【Nurture】. 【Chaos】 had secretly chatted with 【Nurture】 for a long time, and under the impatient lashing of the 【Divine Pillar】, they also cast their vote for them.
Five out of nine; the final decree ended, and the one who needed the authority the least obtained 【Truth】's authority.
【Nurture】's 【Divine Pillar】 twisted for a moment, but there was no joy in obtaining the authority. They shouted "Child—" and disappeared right before the eyes of the gods.
【Annihilation】 ran fast too; they had to, as 【Death】 and 【Deception】 were eyeing them covetously. They weren't arrogant enough to take on two at once without preparation, so amidst 【Deception】's sneers, 【Annihilation】 annihilated their own figure.
【Memory】 looked at 【Deception】 without joy or sorrow, left behind the words "Do not covet my collection hall again," and then departed.
【Deception】 ignored them, instead pinching the cat that was pretending to be asleep, and said meaningfully:
"Little cat, little cat, having acted on behalf of authority for so long, you should have realized a truth: once a patron dies, their believers have no one to protect them."
Afterward, they tossed it aside and disappeared into this starry sky themselves.
The others left one after another, and in an instant, only 【Justice (Order)】 and 【Order Iron Law】 remained on the scene.
Every time the Divine Covenant Assembly ended, 【Justice (Order)】 would always be the last to leave after watching the gods go, so their remaining behind didn't attract anyone's attention.
But this time, they clearly had something they wanted to say to "themselves."
The impartial scales looked toward 【Order】's seat, and after a long silence, asked:
"In this universe today, is there still order?"
【Order Iron Law】 replied firmly: "Of course."
The scales paused, then asked: "Then why, when all the gods have left to save the universe, are you the only one not seen maintaining order?"
【Order Iron Law】 was lost for a moment, thought about it, and said:
"【Truth】 told me that order is not just within the universe, perhaps it is also outside the universe, so I am waiting for a new order.
I want to know how order differs from order; if order is not unique, then what is 【*His】 expectation for 【Order】...
What is the meaning of my existence?"
