Chapter 480: Adventure Continues
Knowing that there was no toxic dust here, Fatty grew much bolder. When he reached the next room, he kicked the door open.
The situation inside was almost identical to the next room, except the shape of the coffin was different—it was a much longer and narrower one. The coffin had some gold floral lacquer that was hard to make out, suggesting the buried person might have been a woman.
I ignored that and continued to read the epitaph, only to realize my judgment was wrong—the person in this coffin was still a man.
This man was called Zhang Ruishan, also from the "Chessboard Zhang" branch. After reading through his life story, I found it was basically the same as the one we saw in the next room. He should have died in the same armed conflict, so they were buried next to each other.
The only difference was that this man's parents were not as famous as the one next door. He received the same treatment simply because he "opened one imperial tomb" and was "good at management."
From many details, I could tell that Zhang Ruishan's character was quite different from the one next door.
The man next door had a conservative, rule-abiding personality, while this Zhang Ruishan seemed to have studied foreign books. He "understood principles and could compose essays," suggesting he was more open-minded and had good literary skills.
Fatty said that all these people in this row must have died in the same armed conflict. If I wanted to find new clues, I should go further to see fresher things.
I fully agreed. So we went out and walked straight down the corridor. I initially planned to go half a floor first, because in a typical armed conflict using firearms, it's common for dozens of people to die.
But after walking about sixteen or seventeen meters, Fatty and I suddenly stopped.
Because we suddenly saw that, halfway down the corridor, one of the room doors was open.
Obviously, we hadn't opened it.
Shining our flashlights over, we noticed that this door was exceptionally large—three times bigger than the ones beside it. The decoration inside the room was also completely different.
Shining further in, we saw a huge coffin inside that had also been opened, and unlike us, they hadn't closed the lid—the coffin lid was lying on the floor.
"What's going on?" Fatty looked at me. "Did the guy come through here?"
I shook my head. "But the person in this coffin is definitely not the same as the others. Look at this burial chamber—it's practically presidential suite level."
We walked in. As I shone the light on the floor, I immediately noticed something wrong. There were no footprints on the floor, and the hinges of the opened door were old and worn; the cracks from when it was kicked open were heavily decayed.
The outer edge of the coffin was covered in dust. There were many incense burners placed around the burial chamber, also thick with dust.
This door had been opened a long time ago, and the coffin had also been left open for quite a while. Judging by the thickness of the dust, it had been at least over a decade. "It seems someone came here before us, but it wasn't Xiao Ge."
"Was it the last funeral procession?"
"Would you rob a tomb right after a funeral? Your ancestors would go crazy," I said. "It couldn't have been a funeral—this is grave robbing."
"Damn, we few brothers are awesome. Anyone of us could be a top figure shaking the global grave-robbing world. I, Fatty, am even known as the Prince of Tomb Raiding.
The few of us came to this place with so much damn effort, so many of us with uncertain fates—could there be anyone more formidable than us?"
"Didn't the ghost shadow say that back then many people had already entered the ancient building but died inside? This coffin might have been opened by those people. That was thirty years ago."
"Weren't they part of a funeral procession? How could they also steal things on the side?"
I said, "Those people were originally grave robbers themselves. Some had low moral standards, so the possibility of pilfering was high.
Besides, the conflict was too intense back then. Whether those people had other motives for entering the building—the ghost shadow might not have known, or might not have wanted to say—but under the circumstances at the time, it's possible."
I casually shone the light inside the coffin—the huge coffin contained a skeleton completely covered in dust, similar to what we had seen before. I turned to look at the wall for the person's name—just who was this awesome guy?
Taking a look, I froze, thinking I must have misread it. I walked closer for a better look and saw three familiar characters—Zhang Qiling.
"This is the Young Master's coffin," Fatty said. "So the Young Master was a big zombie!"
"Don't talk nonsense," I said, immediately raising my flashlight to carefully read the text behind.
There must be something strange about this—it can't be as it appears on the surface.
