Chapter 152: The Charming Aunt

~7 min read 1,355 words

Deng Hanyu ended up in total defeat in our financing battle.

The later Yue Bai appeared, the greater the chance of my financing success. Yue Bai wouldn't disregard Suxi Township, wouldn't disregard Laoyingzui, and certainly wouldn't disregard me.

Guo Wei's relocation plan came to a temporary halt because the money wasn't in place. After Huang Qishan left Suxi, he didn't make a single phone call and stopped talking about the Laoyingzui land acquisition. I heard he was now focusing his energy on Yuetang Village, negotiating with the villagers day and night about land acquisition and demolition. Unfortunately, the village leader, Boss Qian, wasn't home, so no matter how much Huang Qishan talked until his mouth went dry, he couldn't get a result.

I was idle and bored to death. Lying on the bed alone, I suddenly felt restless. I rolled off the bed, got dressed, opened the door, and went out, ready to head straight for the township middle school.

Walking into the township government courtyard, I saw the minibus belonging to Sun Demao's family picking up passengers. The woman selling tickets was shouting loudly at the villagers carrying loads on their shoulders. I smiled slightly and was about to turn around the vehicle when the woman saw me and shouted loudly, "Township Head Chen, going to the county?"

I shook my head and said, "No."

The woman revealed her scarlet gums and giggled, "Go on, go on. It's a holiday; go to the county to relax."

I only then remembered it was the May Day holiday. No wonder I hadn't seen half a cadre from the township government along the way. A thought stirred in my heart: why hadn't Xue Bing come to find me during the holiday? Was she at school?

After hesitating for a moment, I said, "Fine, I might as well go back to the city."

The woman shouted at others to give me a seat, finally clearing a spot near the door, and fawningly pulled me to sit down.

This woman was the wife of Sun Demao's brother-in-law. She was plump and round.

The woman had great skin. Although she was fat, you could see the faint blood vessels beneath her skin. She had grown up drinking the mountain spring water of Suxi Township, so naturally, she had cultivated great skin. This was exactly the same as Xue Bing and Liu Hongyan; it was all delicate enough to be broken by a blow. Even Jin Ling and Yue Bai, who were already married, had skin as white and smooth as grease, which always made me linger and forget to return.

In the few years I had been in Suxi Township, I hadn't found a single woman with rough skin. Even if time had wrinkled their foreheads and the corners of their eyes, it could never erase their delicate skin.

The woman bent down to pick up a coin that had fallen at my feet. I wanted to pull my leg away. The woman's face flushed red as she finally found the coin, stood up, grinned at me, and deliberately stretched her clothes, showing a shy look.

I feigned sleep, not wanting to communicate with her. The woman turned away in disappointment, her large, fat body straightening up as she shouted loudly to sell tickets.

Getting off at Chunshan County, I went straight to the bus heading to Hengyue City.

I had come in a hurry, originally intending to go to Xue Bing's school, so I was empty-handed. The bus driver looked at me a few times, thinking I was a pickpocket, and kindly warned the passengers, "Everyone, watch your belongings."

After he said it a few times, I couldn't help but ask, "Did you see a thief on the bus?"

The driver looked at me awkwardly, quickly started the car, and set off for Hengyue City. Four years ago, when I came to Suxi, the trip took a whole day. Four years later, returning to Hengyue City only took four hours. A newly built road bypassed many large mountains, connecting to Chunshan County like a colorful ribbon. Previously, crossing the Xiang River, there was no bridge; the two banks were connected by a ferry, which required a lot of waiting. If there weren't many cars, the ferry wouldn't run, and no matter how much you cursed, the boatman would remain as motionless as a grandfather. Now, a new bridge had been built; although it wasn't wide, there was no need to squat by the river and play with sand anymore.

Arriving in Hengyue City and exiting the station, I was actually at a loss, not knowing where to go.

I didn't want to go home. It had been less than a month since I last returned, and my old man would scold me for being too playful and not sticking to my post, even though he wished I would stay by his side every day.

I couldn't go find Huang Weiwei. Although I had officially met her parents and it seemed we had clarified our relationship, there was still a layer of window paper between us that no one had poked through.

I thought of Jin Ling and Zhao Yu'er.

Jin Ling had been running Yue Bai's shop for a while, and I didn't know how she was doing. After all, we had been husband and wife in reality.

I reached out to hail a taxi. Just as I sat in, the phone rang. I answered it; it was my aunt, asking if I had returned for the holiday.

I said, "I'm just about to go to your house."

My aunt hung up the phone. I told the driver to turn around and head to my aunt's house.

My aunt opened the door with a smile and asked, "Where is your uncle?"

My aunt threw me a pair of slippers and said, "Change them first. You've been in the township for too long; you don't even know how to change shoes when you enter the house."

After changing into the slippers, I asked again, "Where is uncle?" My uncle, Battalion Commander Zhang, was preparing to transfer to civilian work and had returned home a while ago.

"He went back to the unit to handle the paperwork."

"Is uncle really transferring?"

"He has to, even if he doesn't want to," my aunt said, "Xiao Feng, your uncle's transfer has something to do with you."

I was startled and said, "How does it have anything to do with me?"

"If it weren't for him going to your Chunshan County to build a road under the guise of an exercise, he wouldn't be transferring."

"Did I harm uncle?"

"You can't say that. He had to transfer sooner or later; better early than late." My aunt brought me a glass of water.

"What is he planning to do in the civilian sector?"

"Not sure yet." My aunt sat down beside me, and a faint fragrance drifted over. This was the body scent that only a woman could emit. I had smelled this fragrance on Jin Ling and Yue Bai, but never on Xue Bing. "A few days ago, I went to find Weiwei and asked her for help."

"What can she help with?"

"Don't worry about that."

My aunt leaned back on the sofa, pressing her hands on her thighs, and said, "I've been running around for a few days; I'm exhausted."

I smiled and said, "Aunt, let me help you; consider it atonement."

My aunt smiled slightly and said, "You're clumsy; I'm afraid it will hurt."

I said, "Don't worry, I'm not a blacksmith by trade."

My aunt pondered for a moment and said, "Fine. If you hurt me, you're dead, Chen Feng."

She stood up and said to me, "I'll lie down; you help me massage."

My aunt lay on the bed like a landscape painting, her eyes slightly closed. I took off my slippers, climbed onto the bed, rested her head on my lap, and slowly massaged her head with both hands.

My aunt let out a soft moan, turned over, and left her back to me. ===== CHAPTER 153 =====
