Chapter 407

~8 min read 1,502 words

Aunt Wanru moved her lotus steps and walked gracefully into Chen Meng's room.

I followed closely behind, calm and quiet, waiting for a storm to come.

Because of her excitement, Chen Meng's face was flushed. Seeing us, she immediately turned her face away, lay on her side without a word, and left us with her back.

Aunt Wanru smiled generously, placed her hands on her hips, and asked softly, "Xiao Chen, is your body okay?"

Chen Meng didn't make a sound; I saw her back tremble slightly a few times, and then it returned to calm.

"I came to see you," Aunt Wanru said, smiling as always. Her innate noble temperament filled the small ward with reserve.

Huang Weiwei hurriedly pulled out a chair and invited Aunt Wanru to sit. Aunt Wanru didn't sit; she looked around and beckoned the secretary to come over, saying, "Change to a better room. It's too noisy here."

The secretary was submissive and was about to go handle it. Chen Meng said coldly, "Don't bother. It's very good here."

Aunt Wanru said in surprise, "No. This room is not only small but also in the shade. It's not good for the child. Change to a large, sunny room."

Chen Meng sat up from the bed and said sarcastically, "The size of the room is the same. I'm the one giving birth, and I feel comfortable, so that's enough."

As she said this, she frowned, seemingly having another contraction. A layer of fine sweat appeared on her forehead, and her breathing became rapid.

Aunt Wanru reached out, wanting to touch her. Chen Meng refused unceremoniously and smiled weakly, "I'm fine."

A sense of maternal happiness rippled across her face.

"Jiaxiao is on his way back," Aunt Wanru said, changing her usual reserve, her tone seeming somewhat humble.

"What is he coming for?" Chen Meng said unhappily, then lay back down, closing her eyes and breathing calmly.

"To see you," Aunt Wanru tucked in her quilt and said to me, "Xiao Feng, ask where he is."

I was about to take out my phone when Chen Meng said coldly, "Chen Feng, I won't see him."

I clutched the receiver, caught in the middle. I looked at Aunt Wanru hesitantly.

"Ask," Aunt Wanru stood up, still in a humble tone, "He's coming to see the child and fulfill his duty as a father; that's not wrong, is it?"

Upon hearing this, Chen Meng sat up excitedly again and shouted, "Whose father is he? What a joke. Let me tell you, this child has nothing to do with him." She gently stroked her high, protruding belly and said to Huang Weiwei unceremoniously, "Weiwei, show them out."

Huang Weiwei flushed with embarrassment and said softly, "Mengmeng, Aunt came to see you; you can't be like this."

"What do you want me to be like?" Chen Meng sneered, "Do you want me to kowtow three times and bow nine times?"

Aunt Wanru was struck by this retort, her face turning pale. She smiled self-deprecatingly and said, "Rest well."

After saying this, she left the room, her shoe soles slapping the floor with a heavy, muffled sound.

I followed Aunt out the door and stood on the steps of the hospital entrance. Aunt Wanru sighed and said, "Was I wrong?"

I comforted her, "Aunt, don't be anxious. Some things need time to smooth out."

Aunt Wanru looked at me and said with infinite worry, "If this matter isn't handled well, I will become the eternal sinner of the Lao He family."

I didn't dare answer her, so I waved for the driver to bring the car over. I opened the door, helped her sit in, closed the door, and said, "Aunt, I'll wait for Jiaxiao to come before saying anything."

After sending Aunt Wanru away, I went back into the delivery room and saw Chen Meng crying like rain on pear blossoms. A sense of pity inexplicably welled up in my heart.

I tentatively said, "Mengmeng, Jiaxiao has rushed back from the province. He wants to see you."

"No," Chen Meng said decisively, gritting her teeth, "What does he think I am? See me when he wants, and kick me away when he doesn't?"

I smiled, "You are the Empress now, and he is just a eunuch; what's the harm in seeing him?"

Chen Meng was amused by me and burst into laughter. She grabbed the corner of Huang Weiwei's clothes and said, "Weiwei, look at you, finding such a glib-tongued man; how will you manage him in the future?"

Huang Weiwei didn't mind and teased her, "You are crying and laughing at the same time, like a cat peeing. And you're talking about me."

Chen Meng didn't say anything and sighed as she lay back down.

I signaled to Huang Weiwei, and she understood immediately. She reached out and held Chen Meng's hand, asking softly, "Mengmeng, what should we do about this situation?"

"What situation?" Chen Meng opened her eyes and looked at her, not understanding.

"He Jiaxiao wants to see you, and I heard Guo Wei is also getting off the plane today. What do you think?"

"I haven't thought about anything. Why think so much?" Chen Meng said lightly.

"Don't you have an idea?"

"What idea do you want me to have?" Chen Meng asked back.

"After the child is born, there has to be a father, right?"

"Can't a child without a father live?" Chen Meng was unhappy and waved her hand irritably, "I want to sleep."

Huang Weiwei didn't intend to let her sleep; she pressed, "Mengmeng, if Jiaxiao wants to marry you, what will you do?"

"Cold salad!" Chen Meng laughed, "He can marry whoever he wants; it has nothing to do with me. As for marrying me, no way."

"Is that your real thought?"

"Have I ever lied?" Chen Meng looked disdainful.

My heart went cold. Chen Meng's attitude cut off Aunt Wanru's idea. She was no longer willing to marry He Jiaxiao, and it was even more impossible to give the child to He Jiaxiao. If this were really the case, how could I continue to hang around my cousin's house in the future!

"What exactly are you thinking?" Huang Weiwei was clearly getting anxious. She subconsciously touched the hairpin, and this action was seen by Chen Meng. She stared at the hairpin, and a look of surprise spread across her face.

"What's wrong?" Huang Weiwei was startled by her appearance.

"Nothing," Chen Meng quickly returned to calm and said faintly, "This hairpin of yours, it's He Jiaxiao's mother's, right?"

Huang Weiwei said in surprise, "How did you know?"

"I've seen it," Chen Meng laughed, "This hairpin is something people give to their daughter-in-law."

She giggled, making Huang Weiwei's face turn bright red.

Chen Meng's demeanor didn't look like she was about to give birth at all. She laughed when she wanted to laugh and cried when she wanted to cry. It seemed that in her heart, nothing could stop her desire to be a mother.

Suddenly, her brows furrowed, and she cried out, "He's kicking me again."

A look of happiness spread across her face.

As a grown man, I felt embarrassed to keep standing in the delivery room. I said, "Mengmeng, I'll go out first."

Chen Meng looked at me and said, "Fine. But I warn you, Chen Feng, if you dare to bring people I don't want to see to me, we won't even be friends in the future."

I nodded and said, "Don't worry."

After going out, I saw Li Lian carrying a basin over. I pulled her aside and asked, "When will she give birth?"

Li Lian laughed, "Why are you so anxious? It's not your wife giving birth."

I smiled awkwardly and said, "It's all the same."

Li Lian looked me up and down and said, "Really the same?"

I nodded affirmatively.

"If it's really the same, do you dare to accompany her through the birth?" Li Lian laughed and said, "When a woman gives birth, if her own man is by her side, she will suffer much less pain."

"Is that so?" I asked, not believing it, and wanting to leave in a hurry.

Li Lian grabbed me and lowered her voice, "I'm telling the truth; there's scientific evidence."

I smiled helplessly, "Unfortunately, I'm not her man. I can't do this."

Li Lian let go of my hand and said, "If you can't do it, then obediently wait outside."

I nodded hurriedly and walked quickly to a large tree, took out my phone, and called Yu Wei.

Yu Wei had already picked up Guo Wei and the others and was rushing back at full speed.

I told him, "Have Team Leader Guo go directly to Hengyue City, and have the others return to Chunshan with the car."

After hanging up the phone, I looked at the colorful flowers all over the courtyard, but a huge stone seemed to be blocking my heart, making it difficult even to breathe.
