Chapter 473: Governor Lin is Coming to Suxi Town

~7 min read 1,342 words

The shaved heads of Hao Qiang and Lao Mo made me feel that the development of this incident was far from as simple as I had imagined.

Shaving their heads was not a simple interrogation; it was something that only happened under strict criminal detention. I did not know their situation during this period, and even if I wanted to inquire, I could find no way in. Judging by their appearance, they must have just come out of the detention center.

I probed, "Why did you shave your heads? To ward off bad luck?"

Hao Qiang closed his eyes and said gloomily, "This hair, it wasn't us who shaved it off."

"Who did it?"

"Let's not ask about that!" Hao Qiang sighed. "Who else could go against our personal will? The two of us were almost finished."

"It couldn't be that serious, could it?" I laughed, putting on a brave front.

"When it really gets to that point, even the King of Heaven would be powerless to save you," Lao Mo said, still shaken. "I had already thought it was all over, but who knew they would let us out early this morning."

"This is a bit chaotic," I said, patting my head. "You were performing official duties, how could it end up like this?"

"It's dark in there," Hao Qiang sighed. "Once this is over, I have to apply for a transfer out of the Public Security Bureau."

Lao Mo laughed, "Apply for what, you idiot? You don't even know if you can keep your job."

I comforted them, "Don't worry. You have me."

Lao Mo looked at me deeply and said, "It is precisely because of you that we brothers have ended up in this state today. Honestly, for this matter, you, County Magistrate Chen, owe us an explanation."

The food and drinks arrived, and I invited them to start eating.

The two of them smacked their lips, staring at the table full of sumptuous food and wine, their eyes almost glowing green.

"Eat!" I urged them, picking up my chopsticks and placing a piece of braised pork in each of their bowls.

"Too greasy," Lao Mo said, squinting. "I haven't had any oil in my stomach for a while; if I eat something this greasy now, it would be a miracle if I didn't get diarrhea."

Hao Qiang, however, ignored Lao Mo's words, picked up his chopsticks, put a piece of meat into his mouth, chewed a few times, swallowed it, and patted his stomach. "Lao Mo, stop nagging, just eat."

Watching them wolf down the food, I felt a pang of distress in my heart. No matter what, these two people had ended up like this because of me.

"When you came out today, did they say anything?" I asked tentatively.

"They did," Hao Qiang said, swallowing the food in his mouth. "They told us to be well-behaved. Don't say what shouldn't be said, and don't do what shouldn't be done." His expression was particularly strange, his face covered in an inscrutable look.

"What does that mean?"

"The meaning is very simple. It means they want us to shut up."

"Fuck!" I cursed.

"Actually, I heard about this incident, that someone wrote an internal reference report and it was delivered right to the desk of the Provincial Party Secretary," Lao Mo said, lowering his voice mysteriously.

"How do you know?"

"I, Lao Mo, have been a policeman my whole life and have always stayed in the detention center. Do you think I have no connections at the Hengyue City Detention Center, or that I don't know a few people?" Lao Mo laughed triumphantly. "To tell you the truth, I had a pretty good time in there."

"Is this information accurate?"

"It's probably close enough," Lao Mo said hesitantly. "Maybe it's just a rumor."

I smiled faintly; on the surface, I was calm, but inside, a storm was brewing.

If what Lao Mo said was true, then this memorial must have been the work of Xu Mengda.

If all of this was true, how could the news have reached Hengyue City so quickly? What kind of chain was hidden in this? It was impossible not to feel afraid.

"There is no conclusion yet, so you two should rest for a few days. After the relocation work in Suxi Town is finished, we will deal with your matter." I put down my chopsticks and turned to call the waiter over.

"Where is your boss?" I asked.

"He went to the town government."

"What for?"

"To work," the waiter laughed. "Our boss works at the town government every day now. He even has his own office."

I chuckled; this Qian Youyu really thought quite highly of himself.

"Go open two rooms for me, and bring the key cards over once you're done," I instructed her.

The waiter was still hesitating, so I shouted, "Why aren't you going yet?"

The waiter's face turned red, and she wrung her hands, asking, "What about the money?"

"What money? Just put it on the tab," I said, getting annoyed.

The waiter was still hesitant, so Lao Mo laughed, "Little sister, why aren't you going? County Magistrate Chen said to put it on the tab; are you afraid he'll stiff you?"

The waiter's face flushed, she looked at me a few times, then turned and left.

I stood up and said, "You two stay here first, I'll come find you tonight."

After leaving and returning to my office, I had just sat down when Lin Xiaoxi called, saying joyfully, "Chen Feng, my dad agreed to come, and he even invited another leader."

"Really?" I was so happy I could jump, and I quickly asked, "Who else?"

"A big leader," Lin Xiaoxi said with a giggle.

"What kind of big leader?"

"You wouldn't know him even if I told you. You'll know when he gets here."

"When will you arrive?"

"We'll arrive in Hengyue City tomorrow, and in your Suxi Town the day after," Lin Xiaoxi said enthusiastically. "The province is going to broadcast your event live. The TV station staff have already arrived and are currently coordinating the relevant work with us."

"Is that so?" I said, hesitating.

A live broadcast from the provincial TV station. This was a bit of a big deal, exceeding my expectations. If it's broadcast live, the impact would be huge! The entire Central Province, and perhaps even the whole country, would be able to see it.

"Let me tell you, my dad didn't want to come at first; I almost talked until my lips were raw. Last night, he suddenly called me and said he was coming, and he's bringing someone with him. I really don't know what he's thinking. Does a guy like you, Chen Feng, really have that much charm?"

I laughed, "Governor Lin and I are fated. His coming is a spur and an encouragement to us."

"Stop bullshitting," Lin Xiaoxi said coquettishly.

"Your injury, is it better?" I asked.

"You only just remembered now!" Lin Xiaoxi said, pouting. "You don't care about me at all."

"How could I dare!" I said earnestly. "I have been keeping you in my heart every single moment."

"It's more like it's hanging on your lips. Hmph. Hanging in your heart, if it's hanging in your heart, then why don't you come to see me?" I imagined Lin Xiaoxi with her willow-leaf eyebrows arched in anger, and wanted to laugh.

"I'm in Suxi," I said helplessly.

"You're not coming back even at night?"

"I can't get back."

"Shall I go see you?"

"Don't, it's inconvenient for you to move around."

"I'm going anyway." Lin Xiaoxi hung up the phone, leaving me stunned for a long time.

If she really came to Suxi, how would I arrange things for her?

Who doesn't recognize her as a television anchor, a young and beautiful unmarried female anchor, coming to Suxi all by herself to see me; even a blind person could see what's behind this.

I cannot let her come! I thought to myself.
