Chapter 489: Suxi
The whereabouts of Hao Qiang and Lao Mo remained a mystery, and Xu Mengda's instructions weighed on my chest like a giant boulder.
I walked aimlessly and arrived at the town government office before I knew it. Not a soul could be seen at the gate, not even the guard. I had no interest in asking, so I went straight upstairs, opened the door, threw my body onto the bed, and fell into a deep sleep before long.
There were less than three hours until dawn, and I needed to seize the time to rest. Without full energy, I couldn't handle the series of activities after daybreak. I was the protagonist in the Suxi relocation celebration!
In a daze, I felt someone gently stroking my face. I opened my eyes and saw Yue Bai sitting by the bed, her head lowered, eyes fixed on me. Her gaze was full of love and pity.
"Awake?" She withdrew her hand, leaving me feeling quite desolate.
"Today is a good day." She stood up, walked to the window, and pulled open the curtains. The strong sunlight from outside shone straight in, shaking irregular spots of light on my bed. One beam shone directly into my eyes, making it impossible for me to keep them open.
I scrambled to avoid the sunlight, my movements appearing clumsy, which drew a giggle from Yue Bai.
"Get up, everyone is waiting for you." She returned to the bedside, bent down, and straightened my shoes for me.
I glanced sideways and saw a glimpse of spring peeking out from her chest, and suddenly feeling virile, I pulled her up and was about to kiss her lips.
She pushed me away hard, her soft little hands gently patting my cheeks, and whispered, "Don't mess around, there are people outside."
I let go listlessly, put my feet into my shoes, and prepared to go out.
"Wait." Yue Bai called me from behind.
I turned back and saw her holding a black suit and a bright red tie.
"What for?" I asked suspiciously.
"Change into it." She said in an unquestionable tone.
"On such a hot day, you want me to wear a suit?" I said with a grin, "Aren't you afraid of making me sick from the heat?"
"Even if you get sick, you have to wear it." She stubbornly held up the suit, a smile spreading across her face, "You represent our Suxi Town today, your image is the image of our Suxi. Can you go out to meet people looking sloppy?"
I looked up and down at my body and said with a noncommittal laugh, "Where am I sloppy? Isn't this fine?"
"Fine what, the clothes are all wrinkled." She came over to pull at my hem, shoved the suit into my arms, and said, "Hurry up and change. There's no time left. The leaders have already set off from the county."
I had no choice but to change into the clothes, and Yue Bai pulled out a bottle of hair gel like magic, and without waiting for me to resist, sprayed the hair gel onto my head.
The scent of the hair gel flowed into the air; it was a sweet fruity fragrance, so sweet it made one feel a bit cloying.
"Comb it." She handed me a small comb.
I took it, dumbfounded, raked it through my hair messily, and without waiting for her to speak, fled out the door as if escaping. I didn't dare wait any longer. If I waited, who knew what new tricks she would play.
The sunlight, like golden curtains, made the world look incredibly bright.
This was a sunny summer, and all life was growing happily under the sun. The small town of Suxi, under the illumination of the sun, radiated infinite vitality.
All the streets were full of people, and all the streets were filled with colorful flags. The silk banners hanging across the streets swayed gracefully in the wind.
Suxi was bustling with noise and excitement, and everyone's face was filled with happy smiles.
I stood at the town gate, taking in the bustle, and couldn't help but feel excited.
Three years ago, this place was overgrown with weeds, a picture of decay and dilapidation. Today, it was lined with high-rise buildings, and the new city, with two vertical and two horizontal axes, was telling me with a brand-new life force that changing the world is not difficult!
The cadres of Suxi Town, big and small, were waiting for me at the bottom of the steps. They were dressed in formal attire, their expressions solemn, their hands all crossed at their waists.
I nearly laughed out loud. My group of homegrown cadres, after changing into a new outfit, who wasn't looking dignified?
Wherever my eyes landed, everyone responded with a smile.
Suddenly, my eyes stopped on two people; they weren't wearing suits, one standing, one sitting in a wheelchair, forming a sharp contrast.
It was the old Secretary Liu Quan and the old Township Head Zhu Shizhen.
I rushed over, holding their hands in mine, almost choking up.
Liu Quan patted the back of my hand and laughed heartily, "Little Chen, my judgment was right. You brat are truly extraordinary."
I smiled honestly; in front of him, I would always be a new recruit of Suxi.
"Old Zhu, satisfied now?" Liu Quan bent down and asked Zhu Shizhen.
"I am satisfied, Old Liu, how about you."
"I have nothing to say." Liu Quan sighed, "This world, after all, is the world of these young people. We old bones should admit defeat."
I laughed, "Secretary Liu, this is not a question of winning or losing, but a question of opportunity. I just happened to encounter a good era."
Liu Quan said sternly, "A good opportunity also needs people to grasp it. Take Old Zhu, for example, you old guy, you fought with me for a lifetime, fighting back and forth, the common people are still the common people, you are still you, I am still I, is it meaningful?"
Zhu Shizhen laughed, "Old Liu, don't talk about me either. Why did we fight in the first place? Wasn't it all to do a few things for the common people. Now, we are all old, this world, let these young people dance."
From their words, I could hear that these two former enemies had cleared up their past grievances. A burst of joy filled my heart, and holding one in each hand, I said loudly, "Today I want to invite you two old leaders to sit on the rostrum."
Liu Quan shook off my hand and said to Zhu Shizhen with his head lowered, "Old Zhu, are you going to sit?"
Zhu Shizhen laughed, "Are you going, Old Liu?"
Liu Quan shook his head heavily.
Zhu Shizhen clapped his hands and laughed loudly, "So there are places you don't dare to go either. Come, push me, let's go see Suxi."
The two gray-haired old men chatted and laughed, and under our gaze, they walked straight away.
I opened my mouth to shout, but Yue Bai on the side pulled my clothes and whispered, "Don't worry. They both live in Suxi now, and according to Secretary Liu, they both want to spend their old age in Suxi."
I laughed out loud, my laughter mixed with all the joys and sorrows of so many years. This laughter, apart from myself, who could understand the taste in it?
"Let's go, let's go to the celebration site." Yue Bai urged me.
I waved my hand and said, "Let's go!"
The celebration site was at the Cultural Square, on a high platform built on flat ground, with several large balloons floating on both sides. Banners were hanging under the balloons.
The stage was surrounded by flowers; looking closely, they were all wild flowers from the fields. A gentle breeze blew, and the fragrance of flowers immediately filled the air.
This ingenious decoration was beyond my expectations.
Under the stage, people dressed in colorful clothes were crowded together. There were performance teams from various villages, and people from outside who came to watch the excitement.
When the crowd saw us, a burst of cheers erupted, and they cleared a path.
I suddenly felt light-headed, as if my feet were stepping on the ground, floating and without force.
"All the designs were arranged by President Xu from the province, including these flowers." Yue Bai reminded me softly.
"Must thank him properly." I said sincerely, my eyes looking for Xu Mengda.
"He left. He left early in the morning." Yue Bai seemed to see my intention.
"This guy, not attending our celebration. That's not right." I cursed, "Wait until I go to the province, I'll have a good theory with him."
Yue Bai smiled lightly, called over the Party Office Secretary, and asked, "Where is the motorcade?"
The Party Office Secretary said nervously, "They will be here in forty minutes."
I laughed, "You're so accurate? Not bad."
The Party Office Secretary blushed and said, "Town Mayor Liu arranged for the town's cadres to follow them. I have been keeping in touch."
I said "Oh," and scanned the sea of people at the scene. A burst of heroism suddenly rose in my heart, and I felt full of ambition; in this world, who but me!
Just as I was full of heroism and expressing myself, Yu Wei ran over in a hurry, handed me the phone, and said, "Boss, Xiao Zhu is looking for you."
I took the phone and said loudly, "Xiao Zhu, where are you?"
Zhu Hua Yu said anxiously, "Boss, I didn't go."
"You didn't come to Suxi?" I asked loudly.
"I can't go."
"What's going on?" I felt unhappy. Zhu Hua Yu, as my secretary, dared not to come when I was celebrating, what tricks was she playing?
"Boss, I have to accompany guests."
"Accompany whom?"
"The guests looking for you."
"Who is looking for me?"
"Leaders from the Provincial Organization Department." Zhu Hua Yu whispered, "Boss, what should I do?"
People from the Provincial Organization Department looking for me? I was stunned for a moment. Immediately, I felt relieved; the Provincial Organization Department was a department specifically for examining and promoting cadres. They suddenly came to find me for no reason, and it was at the critical moment of my Suxi celebration, could it be that a pie fell from the sky and hit me?
"Invite the leaders to Suxi!" I shouted into the receiver, "Tell them, the people of Suxi welcome them."
After hanging up, Yue Bai came over to remind me, "Should we go to the road outside the town to wait?"
"Of course!"
I waved my hand and said, "All cadres, go to welcome the leaders." ===== CHAPTER 490 =====
