Chapter 6

~7 min read 1,343 words

However, Zhu Ming'en, who heard Qi Fei say this, suddenly had his original calm and composed state broken.

"You are a policeman, you must have grounds for what you say. Don't use the dead to scare me." He was stubborn, but the muscles on his face were twitching slightly, clearly nervous.

Qi Fei threw a report in front of Zhu Ming'en: "Let me tell you a piece of trivia: DNA cannot dissolve in alcohol; instead, it can help extract DNA. You were clever enough to soak Chen Xiaojing's body in a wine jar to cover up the odor, but you accidentally preserved the skin tissue remaining under her fingernails. We detected a DNA sample in the wine that does not belong to Chen Xiaojing herself. This sample does not belong to Zhu Qi, but is highly similar to Zhu Qi's DNA sample. We cannot rule out a parent-child relationship."

"No, I didn't kill Chen Xiaojing..." Zhu Ming'en murmured, as if saying it to himself.

"We have reason to suspect that not only did you kill Chen Xiaojing, but you also dismembered her. You should know that your father, Zhu Qi, has an injured shoulder and couldn't lift an axe at all."

Hearing this, Zhu Ming'en suddenly looked up and blurted out: "He has an injured shoulder?" It seemed this was the first time he knew about this.

Qi Fei was somewhat surprised: "You didn't know?"

Zhu Ming'en sneered: "Since I was born, he's been out fooling around every day. The number of times he's come home can be counted on one hand. Let alone that he has an injured shoulder, I've almost forgotten what he looks like. Zhu Qi killed her, it has nothing to do with me."

"We only need to compare it with your DNA to know."

"Maybe Zhu Qi left a hand in it. He wants to confuse your investigation and frame me! Don't you know? He's a fraudster! He's lying to you!" Zhu Ming'en was already hysterical by the time he said this.

Qi Fei knew he wouldn't admit it: "We only believe in evidence. Whether you are guilty or not, let the court decide!"

Leaving the interrogation room, Wu Shanqiu sighed: "This Zhu Ming'en is truly 'blue out of blue,' heh, is it useless not to admit guilt at this point? By the way, Brother Fei, how did you suspect Zhu Ming'en?"

"Zhong Kui told me," Qi Fei said. "This woman still has some tricks up her sleeve."

"Wow, speaking of which, you didn't tell me what happened after you went to Sanwu Town. Can this Zhong Kui really communicate with spirits?"

"Shanqiu, we are policemen, firm materialists. Of course she can't communicate with spirits, but her observation and analytical abilities still make me look at her with new eyes. I have to go thank her for this matter."

"Brother Fei, you saying that makes me even more curious. The Zhu Qi case is wrapped up, can I go with you? Speaking of which, where is that place?"

Qi Fei wanted to open his mouth to describe the place name, but a crisp sound of wind chimes inexplicably rang in his mind, and he was speechless for a moment: "It's... it's..." There seemed to be a fog in his brain. He clearly knew what he wanted to find, but he couldn't remember it no matter what.

"Brother Fei, are you okay?" Wu Shanqiu asked, looking at Qi Fei's dazed appearance with some confusion.

"Strange, I suddenly can't remember."

"Didn't you copy down the latitude and longitude?"

"Don't mention it, it was burned by her that day, but I have navigation records." Qi Fei hurriedly took out his phone and opened the map software, but after a long search, there was no result. His brow furrowed, "Strange, why are the search records gone?" However, he remembered that he had also searched on his office computer that day, so he immediately rushed to the office and opened the web page. Unexpectedly, as soon as he clicked, junk ads popped up. It looked like it had a virus at a glance.

The police station's network firewall level wasn't low, so it was too abnormal for the computer to have a virus. He glanced at the USB drive on the table, which was sent to him by Zhong Kui. Not good! He thought to himself, this virus, needless to say, was Zhong Kui's doing.

When Zhong Kui took away the business card and address, he was still smug, having long thought that his phone and computer had records, and besides, his memory had always been good, so he wasn't afraid at all.

Unexpectedly, all his backup plans had failed, which really made Qi Fei's teeth itch with hatred.

Since then, there had been no news from Zhong Kui.

In the blink of an eye, it was winter. Qi Fei had just arrived at the entrance of the unit when an old man came up and knelt down with a "thump," grabbing the corner of his clothes and crying: "Comrade Police, you have to make the decision for us. Xiao Jing died miserably, we can't let that Zhu guy go!"

The one kneeling was Chen Xiaojing's father, Chen Youwei. Qi Fei knew what he was begging for. This case was about to be sentenced. The good news was that Zhu Ming'en would likely be convicted of intentional homicide. The bad news was that Zhu Ming'en was still a minor when he committed the murder, so he would be sentenced according to his age at that time and wouldn't be sentenced for many years.

Qi Fei didn't know what to do. It was fine for him to investigate cases, but he was soft-hearted, and what he feared most was family members kneeling and begging.

"No need to beg, he can't help you." An arrogant voice came, and Zhong Kui actually appeared at the entrance of the police station.

Chen Youwei was stunned the moment he saw Zhong Kui, and then looked up at the rising sun, as if he shouldn't see her in broad daylight.

This look didn't escape Zhong Kui's eyes. She raised an eyebrow, walked to Chen Youwei, bent down and said: "I'm not a ghost, but I can handle things for ghosts. You have to find me."

Having experienced the Zhu Qi incident, Chen Youwei didn't doubt Zhong Kui's words at all and hurriedly kowtowed to her repeatedly: "Please, Great Immortal Zhong Kui, seek justice for my daughter!"

"Then you know what to do, right?" Zhong Kui patted Chen Youwei on the shoulder.

"I know, I know, I'll put the money in the merit box when I go back!" Chen Youwei nodded like a garlic-pounding machine.

"Zhong Kui, are you human! You even earn this black-hearted money?" Qi Fei was anxious when he heard this and said indignantly.

Zhong Kui, however, was indifferent: "Haven't you seen my black merit box? I never said I earned conscience money."

"You!" Qi Fei hadn't finished speaking.

Zhong Kui lowered her head and said to Chen Youwei: "You know how to find me."

When she was about to leave, Qi Fei grabbed her arm. This was sudden, and Zhong Kui turned her head sharply, her long hair swinging onto Qi Fei's face. The hair strands carried that sweet, greasy fragrance, making Qi Fei feel dazed.

Zhong Kui observed his expression, inexplicably proud: "Don't tell me you can't remember."

"What did you do to me?" Qi Fei stared at her and asked through gritted teeth.

"Everything is your own consciousness, it has nothing to do with me. You are like this, and so is Zhu Ming'en." Zhong Kui said and walked away.

Chen Youwei's emotions were suddenly soothed by Zhong Kui's appearance, and he left without needing Qi Fei to do anything else.

Qi Fei arrived at his office. The compass lay quietly on the table. Zhong Kui's words still echoed in his mind, sounding mysterious but chilling.

He didn't understand why she said he and Zhu Ming'en were the same, but he would soon know...
