Chapter 80: Oriole
"You are crazy!" Qi Fei said disappointedly.
"Thank you, this is a compliment," Zhong Kui's lazy gaze turned to Qi Fei, "Can you guarantee that when you know that Zhu Ming'en will only be sentenced to ten years in prison because he was a minor when he committed the crime, there is not a trace of desire to kill him in your heart?"
"Hmph, I don't," Qi Fei said immediately, "Don't use your set of gray theories to deal with me."
"However, I am not for any justice either. Zhong Xiaoyu's design for me does not include justice. I am just to lure out this monster. Those who deserve to die are just bait for fishing, rotten meat in a cage, letting that monster get closer bit by bit, bit by bit revealing its fangs..."
"The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind. It turns out you are that oriole," Qi Fei said, and the hot wine in his hand couldn't warm his heart.
"I am not the oriole. The oriole is the person who designed me, the person who let me kill her."
"When you approached me, all the words you said, was there not a trace of personal feelings in them?"
"If you need it, I can."
Zhong Kui's words were even more hurtful.
"I've had enough!" Qi Fei got up angrily and walked out regardless of the dark.
"You don't want to walk the night road of Zizai Shan," Zhong Kui said coldly behind him.
"None of your business." Qi Fei rushed into the dark night straight away.
Zhong Kui sat in place, drinking yellow wine cup by cup.
Luosha's amber eyes stared at her, without blinking.
"I won't chase him, don't look," Zhong Kui said to Luosha.
"Meow," a sound, as if Luosha raised an objection.
Qi Fei buried his head and walked alone in the dark mountain road. He didn't know where he was going, only hoping that this cold air could calm him down.
"Damn, I'm a real man, be competitive," he scolded himself. The more there was no one around, the more frustrated he felt. Unknowingly, he walked into a deep forest, and soon he couldn't tell the front, back, left, or right.
It was getting late, and the cold air spread in the mountains.
"Hm?" Zhong Kui looked at the wind that suddenly rose outside the window, "Didn't hear it was going to snow tonight."
However, as soon as the words fell, one or two pieces of snow came down.
Luosha behind her walked silently to her side, leaning against her feet.
"Why is such an adult so childish in terms of feelings?" Zhong Kui said to Luosha.
Luosha just stared outside, as if very worried.
The snow became heavy very quickly, like catkins, flying all over the night sky.
Qi Fei finally walked out of the forest, on a grassy slope, looking at the vast wilderness, only vaguely seeing one mountain after another.
The impulsive long-distance run just now didn't take him down the mountain after all, and the cold invaded his bones.
He didn't know where he was. This cold air collided with the hot blood he had been rushing all the way, making him suddenly collapse, his eyes went black, and the whole person fell down.
I don't know how long it took, he only felt the snow piling up on his body bit by bit, and he couldn't get up no matter what.
Swish, swish, footsteps came from the silent mountains.
Zhong Kui appeared beside him in a scarlet cloak. She was holding a lantern in her hand, followed closely by Luosha, like a character from ancient times.
The light of the lantern shone on her half-smiling face, looking at him, and then reached out to him.
When Zhong Kui appeared, he couldn't describe the ecstasy in his heart, but doubted that this was just a hallucination when he was cold and hypothermic.
"So cold... hold me tight," Qi Fei muttered. This was the last sentence he remembered saying.
When he woke up, he was already lying on the couch in the wooden house. The whole house was empty, and Zhong Kui didn't know where she had gone. He searched inside and outside the house, but there was no trace of her.
The snow had stopped. He looked at the vast white mountains in a daze. Last night he had a vivid dream, in which he caught Zhong Kui's hand, pulled her over, and held her in his arms.
Zhong Kui stretched out her hand blankly and held him tightly, whispering in his ear: "I really envy you, Qi Fei. Only by knowing cold can you know the happiness of being warmed..."
However, it was just a dream. There were no footprints at all in the snow around the wooden house—Zhong Kui left before the snow stopped, leaving him alone here.
A breeze blew, and the wind chime hanging on the firewood door rang.
Qi Fei smiled bitterly: "What a heartless person." After speaking, his nose itched and he sneezed. When he rubbed it with his hand, a scarlet fiber got into his nose. This color was the cloak Zhong Kui wore when she found him in the snow.
This trace suddenly made his sinking heart beat. He touched his cheek with his hand, slightly sticky, and looked at his palm. A faint rose-colored mark was rubbed off his face. It was Zhong Kui's lip color.
"How ironic, you can no longer feel the pain of this face, right?" The sharp blade stuck to the woman's exquisite face, sliding down along the perfect line of the cheek.
The woman didn't dare to cry out, only tears slid down her cheeks silently.
"This is your best acting performance, right?" The voice said, "Let's enjoy this performance well. You will be remembered forever, forever and ever!"
"Let me go..." The woman squeezed a few words from the bottom of her throat.
"A person's behavior will have consequences, and wrong behavior will inevitably have dark and inescapable consequences," the other party's tone was distorted and crazy.
"No, you are too deep into the play, too deep into the play!" The woman's emotions became excited with the other party's insults, "I'll give you whatever you want!"
"Too late..." As soon as the words fell, the butcher knife fell.
The woman's expression was forever frozen in terror and pleading.
That wide-open pupil gradually became turbid, and before long, it reflected Qi Fei's appearance.
Qi Fei squatted on the ground, carefully checking the woman's face. A rose was placed horizontally in her mouth, and the thorns of the rose had pierced her lips, but she would never feel pain again.
This was a high-end hotel suite. The pure white quilt had been soaked in blood, turning red, merging with the rose petals covering the whole bed. However, what was most frightening was the diagonal wound on the deceased's face, circling the head in a spiral, one by one.
"It's really an eventful autumn," Liu Tong rarely appeared at the scene of the case, saying slowly behind Qi Fei.
Liu Tong mostly let the people in the team handle the case and didn't appear at the scene much. It sounded good to give subordinates full trust, but it sounded bad to be lazy.
Qi Fei knew the reason why Captain Liu came today. The identity of the deceased this time was special: Hong Mei, a popular female star, was killed in Nancheng, and the public opinion pressure was not a little bit.
However, he looked at the corpse in front of him, and the neat cuts on her face had already caused her facial features to be misplaced, which was already completely different from the glamorous female star on the screen, so he couldn't help but ask: "Is this person really Hong Mei?"
