Chapter 368
Wang Yu felt he had slept for a very long time.
For a while, he had consciously wanted to wake up, but his body remained stubbornly trapped in drowsiness, occasionally hearing faint, muffled noises and sensing fleeting white lights flickering before his eyes—yet his consciousness was frozen, unable to think or act at all.
After an unknown length of time, he finally regained a sliver of voluntary awareness amid violent shaking, vaguely sensing his body spinning uncontrollably as if tumbling through space, yet his eyelids remained impossibly heavy, unable to open even a fraction.
"Examination complete. Lower the subject."
A voice speaking unfamiliar Chinese suddenly sounded nearby; the spinning slowed and ceased, and he felt hands groping over his limbs.
A few sharp "cracks" echoed as switches on his limbs unlocked; his limp body was then carefully lifted off something by several palms and laid down onto another soft surface.
"Be careful, be extremely careful."
Someone else added instructions, then—"puff"—a needle-like object pierced his arm, and he vaguely felt something being injected.
Wang Yu immediately felt a deep wave of sleepiness surge over him, sinking once more into unconsciousness.
Amid rapid, labored breathing, he awoke again, instinctively opening his eyes.
"Gul-gul-gul"
His vision filled entirely with translucent liquid; bubbles continuously streamed from his mouth and nose, yet he felt no suffocation—as if he had long grown accustomed to it.
Wang Yu startled, barely lowering his head to see his entire body submerged in the translucent fluid, his skin covered with numerous silver circular patches connected by fine wires.
Before he could think further, a rushing "whoosh" sounded—the translucent liquid around him vanished rapidly, the buoyancy lifted, and his feet touched a hard, smooth floor.
He squinted, finally realizing he was inside a massive transparent glass tank, the liquid draining swiftly through an open drain beneath his feet.
Outside the tank, a blurred human figure stood faintly visible, seemingly observing him.
Wang Yu blinked, still unable to make out the figure's face before his body swayed—he quickly braced both hands against the tank walls to avoid falling.
Only then did he realize his entire body was utterly weak, as if even standing were an immense struggle.
At that moment, the front wall of the tank slid open, and a woman with long hair in a white lab coat rushed in, grabbing him firmly and asking urgently:
"Subject One, are you alright? You've just awakened from the medical pod—your body is still extremely weak. Don't speak, don't think. Let me help you lie down first."
As she spoke, she efficiently removed all wires and silver patches from his body, then carefully guided Wang Yu step by step toward a large bed already prepared nearby, helping him lean back against it before pressing a red button on the bedside and speaking rapidly.
"General Wei, Subject One has awakened. Send the medical team immediately."
The woman then straightened up and asked Wang Yu again, concerned:
"Subject One, how do you feel? Your previous injuries were severe. We transferred you to this base with more advanced medical technology to treat you better.
You've been unconscious for over a year. When the medical staff arrive, they'll conduct a full diagnostic again."
"Over a year? Is this really another base?" Wang Yu leaned against the thick pillow, feeling a faint return of strength; hearing the woman's words, he murmured softly.
For some reason, his eyeballs felt dull and achy; even when he forced them wide open, he could only clearly see objects within half a meter—anything farther away appeared as a hazy white blur, as if unaccustomed to the bright light.
Fortunately, within moments, the ache and dullness in his eyes rapidly faded, and he gradually began to discern objects farther away.
"Yes, this base is under General Wei's command. Given your importance, he should arrive soon." The woman replied gently.
Wang Yu said nothing further, blinking several more times until the lingering dullness in his eyes vanished almost entirely—he could now clearly see everything around him, his gaze sweeping the room and absorbing every detail.
The room appeared to be about forty square meters, square-shaped, with spotless white floor tiles, and walls and ceiling entirely white.
Aside from the large bed and two chairs nearby, the only other object was a massive glass tank nearly a zhang tall, standing in the corner.
On either side of the tank sat seven or eight highly precise medical devices, all connected by numerous wires, their purposes unclear.
Beyond the woman's breathing and his own, the room emitted no other sound—clearly, it had been specially soundproofed.
He finally saw the woman before him.
Of average height, with straight, shoulder-length jet-black hair, almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose, a cherry-red mouth, and faint dimples on both cheeks—she radiated an inexplicable sense of warmth.
Wang Yu's gaze sharpened—he saw the military insignia of the Chinese army pinned to her white uniform, beside which were three small characters: "Du Xiaohong."
He had truly returned from another world to Blue Star!
Even as composed as he was, Wang Yu couldn't suppress a surge of emotion; he was about to ask the woman more questions when—
"Bang!" The white door burst open.
Three medical staff in white gowns rushed in—all men with black hair, wearing full-face masks, each carrying a small medical kit.
Without waiting for Wang Yu or the woman to speak, they hurried to the bed, pulling wires, moving equipment, and one pulled a thick syringe from his kit, preparing to inject Wang Yu's arm.
"You—" Wang Yu frowned, but before he could speak, the medic injecting him explained quickly:
"Don't worry—this is a concentrated nutrient agent. You've survived for days solely on the medical pod—your body is extremely weak. You need this injection before any further tests." As he finished, the needle plunged into Wang Yu's arm, emptying the entire syringe into his vein.
Another medic reapplied silver patches across Wang Yu's entire body, while the third connected the final wires and activated two diagnostic machines beside the tank.
Wang Yu began to feel a faint warmth spreading through his body, his limbs slowly regaining strength.
At that moment—"Bang!"
The door swung open again, and a muscular man in a general's uniform strode in, his skin a coppery hue; upon seeing Wang Yu undergoing examination, his eyes lit up and he grinned, revealing a row of white teeth:
"Subject One, you're finally awake! Do you know? The entire base has been waiting for you to wake up!"
