Chapter 407: Slaughterhouse
Wang Yu stared at the spaceship "Freedom Goddess" among the stars, which resembled a small city, and was secretly astonished.
Could the future Blue Star Alliance really build such an astonishing behemoth and operate it across the stars?
After all, today's Blue Star, the only planet humans have set foot on, is merely the Moon.
Or is the era Chen Boshi came from far older than previously suspected?
As Wang Yu pondered, he continued watching the large screen.
The screen now focused on several exceptional mechs.
Though few in number, these mechs had unusual designs and far surpassed ordinary ones, clearly belonging to certified or elite mech pilots.
These custom mechs charged into the nebula beast swarms like wolves among sheep; ordinary nebula beasts could not resist and were swiftly shot or slashed down.
Wang Yu even saw a dazzling mech, pure white, with three pairs of mechanical wings on its back and a massive halo atop its head, resembling a true angel.
This special mech simply raised its hands, and the halo above its head emitted blinding white light, causing hundreds of nearby nebula beasts to explode instantly.
Such terrifying killing power made Wang Yu's pupils contract slightly, even for him.
He had never seen a mech this powerful before—could this be the legendary Star-Class Mech? If so, its pilot must be the legendary Star-Class Mech Pilot.
He wondered whether this destructive power came from the pilot's extraordinary Star-Nergy or from the mech itself.
"Look quick, that's the 'Archangel' Mech!"
"That's the Archangel Mech! I heard Prince Isa spent over half a year gathering resources from countless players to build it—truly amazing!"
"If I had a Star-Class Mech like that, I'd be amazing too."
"Please, the Archangel Mech is hailed as the number one mech in 'Star River.' Though a bit exaggerated, Prince Isa is indeed the first publicly known Star-Class Mech Pilot in 'Star River' and has consistently ranked in the global top ten."
"Wow, a Star-Class Mech Pilot with a Star-Class Mech—that's an unbeatable combo. I wonder who the other Star-Class Mech Pilots ranked above Prince Isa are."
"Forget the top ten—how many players in the global top thousand even reveal their identities? Unless they voluntarily disclose it, all we see are their aliases and nationalities."
The young people in front of the screen, upon seeing the six-winged angelic mech in action, grew excited and began enthusiastically discussing among themselves.
After taking one last deep look at the white mech on screen, Wang Yu turned and walked out the door of Star River Bar.
Half an hour later.
A slightly worn yellow sedan pulled up before Wang Yu; the window rolled down, revealing the face of a young woman with androgynous features.
"Dai Sen, get in. Let's hurry—we should make it back to the factory before the workers arrive." The young woman called out to Wang Yu without hesitation.
"Alright, Ai Li. Since it's my first time visiting the factory, I don't want to be late." Wang Yu replied, walked to the other side, opened the door, and sat in the back.
Moments later, the yellow sedan started again, turned around, and sped back the way it came.
…
Over an hour later, in a cluster of independent factories on the outskirts of Pengjie City.
Accompanied by Ai Li and another bearded man, Wang Yu stood before a large frozen warehouse, watching workers loading stiff pork carcasses onto two large refrigerated trucks.
"Dai Sen, our slaughterhouse may be small and not well-known in Pengjie City, but we supply pork to over a dozen nearby markets, with annual sales quite substantial—even supplying fixed portions to several large supermarkets."
"The factory has two zones: this side is our shipping and rest area; the other side is the live pig slaughter line."
After one refrigerated truck was fully loaded with frozen pork and drove off, the bearded man spoke, then led Wang Yu toward the area where pig squeals echoed.
"Though our factory is small, our boss installed the most advanced slaughter line in China—once live pigs are driven in, they're slaughtered, cleaned, and sectioned automatically, then directly transported to the warehouse."
"The only trouble is, this line keeps having minor glitches and needs frequent repairs," Ai Li added beside him.
"I really need to take a good look—I've never seen how live pigs are slaughtered before," Wang Yu replied with visible excitement, perfectly portraying a young man's curiosity.
"Haha, this slaughter line only seems interesting the first time you see it—after that, it's boring. And slaughterhouses? You know the smell," the bearded man laughed.
Wang Yu nodded vigorously and followed the two into another building.
Inside, a long mechanized assembly line stood, its entrance where workers used long poles to herd a group of live pigs inside.
At the other end, half-pork carcasses, stripped of hair and washed, continuously emerged, swiftly carried off and loaded onto trucks by other workers.
The entire building's odor, as the bearded man had said, was indeed overpowering.
Wang Yu frowned; though he didn't cover his nose, he seemed to unconsciously hold his breath.
"Dai Sen, put this on."
The young woman handed him a mask and put one on herself.
Wang Yu accepted without hesitation, thanked her, slipped on the mask, and walked toward the assembly line entrance.
For some reason, though the workers were all sweating profusely, the moment Wang Yu entered this building, a chill washed over him.
The bearded man, clearly accustomed to the smell, walked calmly behind Wang Yu with Ai Li.
As they drew near, Wang Yu finally saw everything clearly.
All pigs entering the line were instantly stunned by two massive electric rods on the conveyor, then carried away—efficient, swift, with no delay.
Even the pigs didn't have time to squeal as they collapsed—apparently dying without a moment of pain.
Wang Yu's face showed apparent interest, but deep in his gaze flickered a hint of surprise.
For some reason, the silver talisman in the depths of his spiritual sea trembled violently the moment he approached—something seemed desperate to burst forth, forcibly suppressed by his overwhelming spiritual power.
Wang Yu conversed calmly with the two beside him, while quietly channeling threads of spiritual energy into his eyes—suddenly, a faint yellow spiritual rune flashed and vanished.
He had activated the Qi-Observing Technique, and looked again—his heart jolted.
