Chapter 427

~6 min read 1,073 words

"Yes"

The glasses-wearing man beside him fiddled with his tablet a few times, then respectfully handed the device over.

"Helena" took the tablet and glanced at its screen.

The tablet displayed a real-time surveillance feed shot from above—slightly blurred, but still clearly showing a car moving along a major road.

The surveillance footage passed directly through the car's roof, capturing the interior: only a white young man sat in the driver's seat; no one else was anywhere else in the vehicle.

"Helena" studied the blurry face of the white youth for a long while before asking:

"I won't ask why this man is Number One. Since Adam's prediction identified him, it's almost certainly correct. Where are he and the car now?"

"Captain, the suspect's vehicle has left Pengjie City and is currently traveling along the main highway east of the city, about fifty li from us. If we pursue at maximum speed now, we should catch up within half a day. But if the local Xierde garrison is willing to deploy helicopters to intercept him, it'll be even easier," the glasses-wearing man replied swiftly.

"Although the Xierde Council leans toward our British Commonwealth, they don't want to offend China, a global superpower. Allowing us into Pengjie City to make the arrest—and having local police assist—was already their limit. The garrison won't openly aid us."

"Complete the vehicle modifications within ten minutes. We're leaving immediately. Since Number One has been locked onto by Dawn Angel, he won't escape now," "Helena" ordered without hesitation.

"Yes"

The glasses-wearing man saluted, then sprinted out of the hall.

The blonde woman glanced once more at the youth on the surveillance feed.

At that moment, the white youth in the car unconsciously looked upward, his features plainly ordinary, then quickly lowered his head and continued driving.

"Number One… is your death truly connected to the original body's demise?" "Helena" murmured, staring at the driver, a strange expression crossing her face.

Wang Yu had already pushed his car to maximum speed. Fortunately, the highway was nearly empty, so he had no fear of going too fast.

Yet shortly after leaving Pengjie City, a strange, familiar sensation suddenly rose in his chest—as if something invisible was watching him again.

He cast several spells in quick succession, inspecting and purifying his entire body, but the sensation did not fade—it grew stronger.

It felt as though a pair of invisible eyes never stopped fixating on him.

Fortunately, through his powerful spiritual sense, he carefully sensed the anomaly and realized it originated from high above the car.

Wang Yu was startled, releasing his spiritual sense to scan the surrounding sky—but found nothing.

This immediately reminded him of the British Commonwealth's infamous surveillance methods.

It seemed he had almost certainly been locked onto by a British satellite.

This was truly a major problem!

Satellites orbit in outer space beyond Blue Star. Normally, once targeted, a person could only stare helplessly—there was nothing they could do.

But he was a Foundation Establishment cultivator; flight was no challenge for him.

As for the problem of normal humans being unable to survive in outer space, sending the White Bone Puppet up there should be manageable.

The real issue now was that Blue Star's orbit was crowded with satellites—he couldn't tell which one had locked onto him.

His earlier awareness of being monitored was merely a spiritual sense intuition from his heightened awareness; it could not reverse-lock onto pure electronic-mechanical devices like satellites.

Moreover, launching the White Bone Demon into space from the ground and flying beyond the atmosphere would consume enormous spiritual energy. Even if he succeeded, if the British Commonwealth simply switched to another satellite to resume tracking, it would be utterly wasteful.

After several mental calculations, Wang Yu abandoned the idea of sending the White Bone Demon to destroy the British satellite. He decided to stick to his original plan: drive as fast as possible to rendezvous with the support team.

Since they were sent by his own country to meet him, they must have a way to counter satellite surveillance.

With this thought, Wang Yu ignored the strange feeling of being monitored, pressed the accelerator fully, and sped toward Karlo Town.

At the same moment.

West of Karlo Town, just over twenty li from the town, stood an abandoned gas station.

Inside the station were two abandoned buildings and a small parking lot, all overgrown with wild grass. Only a narrow path of broken stones led from the main highway to the site.

Yet now, along what should have been a grass-choked path, a deep tire track clearly cut through the dirt, leading straight into the gas station.

Half a day later.

Wang Yu glanced at the map on his phone—Karlo's western meeting point was now only a few miles away. A flicker of relief crossed his mind.

At that moment, faint sounds came from behind—the engine's roar was distant but unmistakably powerful.

Wang Yu's expression changed instantly; he released his spiritual sense and swept it backward.

Far down the road, dust billowed as a convoy of roughly seven or eight green Jeeps raced toward him at high speed.

Their speed clearly surpassed his ordinary sedan—they'd catch up in less than ten minutes.

Wang Yu sighed. It was no longer time to conceal his power. He rolled down the window beside him; silver light flickered between his brows, and several black, bean-sized objects shot out, swelling rapidly in the wind.

Moments later, seven terrifying skeletons slowly rose from the ground behind the car.

Each wore thick, spiked bone armor and wielded bizarre bone artifacts. Their hollow eye sockets glowed faintly with eerie flames.

The seven skeletons charged forward in unison, sprinting toward the pursuing convoy.

Soon after, the convoy behind was thrown into chaos—the first three Jeeps overturned, spewing thick black smoke, while gunfire and explosions erupted in rapid succession.

Wang Yu didn't turn back—he knew the convoy wouldn't be able to pursue normally for now.

He was about to floor the accelerator and escape when the ground ahead roared—suddenly, a thick earthen wall rose, over a meter thick and more than three meters high.

Even with his quick reflexes, Wang Yu had no time to brake.

"Boom!"

The car's front slammed into the wall, crumpling into scrap metal. The massive impact sent the vehicle rebounding backward, flipping end over end through the air before crashing heavily to the ground with a "thud."
