Chapter 5: The Only Death Rule I Can Break!

~7 min read 1,370 words

“Everyone, don’t forget the introduction~”

【No Ghost Has Fallen】!

With this reminder, everyone’s faces turned pale, recalling a line from the Fuben introduction.

Could the ghost really be among us?

“Although the Fuben task is indeed to find the Death Rule, it never said what to do after finding it.” Wu Wang’s voice was quiet, yet it carried a strange magnetism, making everyone involuntarily hold their breath and listen closely.

The boy on the podium slightly smirked, looking like a carefree, sunlit college student, and continued: “The Fuben is called 【Hide and Seek】!”

“Our final goal is—to catch the ghost!”

At these words, the entire classroom fell silent.

So silent that even a pin dropping to the floor could be clearly heard.

Gulp—

Someone unconsciously swallowed.

Crazy! This guy is definitely insane!

The ghost can kill everyone in this classroom without a sound—we’re barely trying to hide, and he wants us to go hunt it?

Most people internally mocked the boy’s madness, while a few frowned in deep thought.

“This boy seems able to ignore the Death Rule—what if he really can catch the ghost?”

Yet as they wrestled with doubt—

They didn’t know—

Wu Wang couldn’t ignore the Death Rule at all!

His erratic behavior in the dark was merely to confirm one thing.

Whether his bizarre 【Immortality】 trait worked within the Fuben .

The bad news? It worked.

He hadn’t died as planned.

The Death Rule was merely something he stumbled upon during the process.

The rhythmic tapping was actually Wu Wang repeatedly dying and reviving, causing his footsteps to stutter.

What surprised him was that when he sang while dying, stepping onto the podium and standing before the microphone—

The Death Rule stopped!

Afterwards, no matter how he danced, played shadow puppets, or sang on the podium, he wasn’t killed again.

Meaning, as long as he stood before the microphone, even in darkness, he could speak freely.

So Wu Wang concluded the microphone must have another function—protecting whoever stood on it to perform certain actions while alive.

Like—catching the ghost!

“What are you talking about?! Don’t think just because you know a little more you can treat everyone else like fools! Do you even think you’re qualified to lead us all by the nose?”

The woman in the long dress, exposed, grew frantic and broke the silence.

If she were truly identified as the ghost in this tense moment—

She’d face only one choice.

Everyone would isolate and watch her; any abnormal behavior would trigger suspicion—or even an attack.

But more likely, they’d force her to do something triggering the Death Rule to prove her innocence.

Either way—

The outcome would be nearly identical.

A dead end.

She couldn’t let Wu Wang keep spouting nonsense!

“Is that so? Then why are you still alive? Is the ghost some kind of feminist, only punching men?” Wu Wang smiled with narrowed eyes.

“!?”

The woman only then realized she had spoken!

If Wu Wang’s Death Rule was true, speaking in darkness was suicide!

Fear engulfed the woman; the surrounding darkness surged like a tide threatening to drown her, bringing an inexplicable suffocating sensation.

It was the taste of death.

All she could do was stare helplessly into the ink-black environment, terrified something would leap out and devour her.

But the expected ghost attack never came.

Instead, something even stranger occurred!

“Ah! My legs!”

As the woman tensed, she suddenly lost balance and fell to the ground.

Looking down, she saw her body below the knees had vanished!

And the vanished edges were visibly moving upward.

In moments, both legs were completely gone.

Though the process brought no pain, the horror of helplessly watching oneself vanish into death was worse than slow dismemberment!

From legs to waist, chest to head—

The woman in the long dress was erased as if by an eraser.

Until the final moment her head vanished, her endless curses still echoed through the classroom—

“Bastard! I won’t let you go even in death! You fucking… I’ll….”

The vulgar insults passed through Wu Wang’s left ear and out his right.

Thump—

He plopped onto the floor, squinting at the spot where the woman had vanished.

“No… she wasn’t killed by the ghost.”

Wu Wang’s mind rapidly processed the situation.

As a unique being who tested ghosts firsthand—

He knew exactly how death by ghost felt.

This sudden vanishing was clearly wrong.

“The key question: why did I vanish too?”

The murderers in the classroom remained stunned, too terrified to make a sound.

No one noticed Wu Wang glancing at his own pant leg.

It was empty.

His legs were gone too!

That’s why he sat down—so no one would notice his anomaly.

Luckily, he wasn’t some cross-dresser who liked wearing short skirts.

Otherwise, he’d have been exposed immediately.

And the vanishing continued upward; within seconds, Wu Wang felt nothing below his navel—including Xiao Wuwang.

Thud—

In a flash, too late to mourn his lost member, Wu Wang suddenly lunged forward and fell to the ground.

Right before everyone’s eyes, he rolled off the podium and crashed into the pitch-black darkness.

Then—absolute stillness.

Now no one dared move.

“That crazy guy… dead?”

The thought echoed in everyone’s minds.

Those near the podium didn’t dare check if Wu Wang was alive or dead.

After all, better him than me.

The deathly silence lasted three full minutes.

Then, the chilling sound finally came.

“Thump!”

The spotlight blazed on; the classroom flooded with light again.

Everyone exhaled in relief.

After all, this darkness was far better than before—only two dead.

At this rate, they’d soon find all the Death Rules, right?

As for Wu Wang’s “catch the ghost” idea—no one dared even think about it.

“Who’s going… to check on him?”

Only after daylight returned did someone finally suggest checking Wu Wang’s body.

But before anyone could respond—

The body spoke.

“Even zoos charge admission. Seeing my corpse? Ten yuan each is fair. First come, first served. Men, no touching private parts. Women, feel free.”

As he spoke, the corpse everyone believed dead stretched lazily and slowly rose.

“Fuck! This guy faked being dead to scare us?”

Others couldn’t help but flinch, squeezing their fists tighter.

But given this guy’s previous behavior,

now just lying on the ground pretending to be dead to scare them—they’d almost grown used to it.

Habit is a terrifying thing.

Wu Wang stretched his neck, then casually brushed the dust off his body as if no one else were there.

【Undying】!

Under cover of darkness, he had lain motionless on the ground and been erased once.

No one noticed his death and return.

No one knew what crucial insight Wu Wang had gained from that death.

He merely smiled faintly, as if the earlier humiliation had never happened, and walked back onto the stage to say: “Ladies and gentlemen, you’re truly lucky to have met me.”

“?”

At these words, the murderers below all simultaneously thought of a giant question mark.

Meeting you is the greatest misfortune!

Wu Wang merely smiled without answering.

They were indeed lucky.

Because he had already discovered what made ghost-hunting most difficult.

The difficulty wasn’t in identifying who or what the ghost was.

It was during the moment of accusation with the microphone.

Both the 【Ghost】 and the 【Accuser】 would be erased!

This was one of the death rules—

【The Ghost Hunter Dies on the Stage】

In other words, to truly catch the ghost, someone had to be willing to sacrifice themselves to make the accusation.

Yet absurdly, the only people in this classroom were murderers who saw human life as worthless.

None of them would willingly sacrifice themselves.

Except Wu Wang—the monster with more than one life.

“By the way, have you really considered giving me your money? The saddest thing is dying before you’ve spent it all! Let me help you use it.”

In his eyes, every murderer in this room was already a corpse.

No one paid attention to Wu Wang’s mad ramblings.

No one noticed the mockery in his eyes.

They were unlucky too.

If his next deduction was correct,

whether or not the ghost was caught, this Fuben had never intended for anyone to leave alive…
