Chapter 555: The Madman

~4 min read 719 words

Although there had been some twists and turns, Miyoshi Ryota had finally found the person he was looking for in the beginning, a successor of the "Nen-ryū," one of the four schools of Hon'i sword arts.

However, most things in the world are like this: after searching for them a thousand times in the crowd, in the end, either one has lost the original intention, or the person found has already changed their appearance.

For Miyoshi Ryota, it was both.

He looked silently at the madman dressed in monk's robes.

Lu Wushuang brought Nanako over; she was much smarter than Miyoshi Ryota. Without needing Li Miao's reminder, she understood the current situation after just one glance.

She put Nanako down and walked to Li Miao's side.

"My lord."

Li Miao tucked his hands into his sleeves and said with a smile.

"Not knowing the language is indeed a bit troublesome. Starting from tomorrow, you should teach me some Japanese as well."

He pointed a finger.

"There were three yesterday, and today another one has delivered themselves to our door. It's just that prying things out of a madman's mouth is a bit troublesome."

Lu Wushuang looked at the madman and said in a low voice.

"Could it be that he saw you and is feigning madness to avoid disaster?"

Li Miao shook his head.

"No, unless it is the Six Paths in One, capable of adjusting both body and mind to a level I cannot see through, no one in the world can feign madness in front of me."

"However, it's not like I haven't interrogated a madman before."

He walked up to the madman who was digging a hole with his head down, kicked him to the ground, raised his hand, and condensed his fingers into a whip of true energy, lashing out at the madman's face.

"Ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh—"

The madman was suddenly whipped; at first, he began to roll and wail in confusion, rolling around everywhere to avoid it. Li Miao, like a bully picking on a fool, chased after him, whipping him continuously while grinning.

He had a sense of proportion; the whip of true energy left no marks on the madman, but every strike was aimed at acupuncture points. The true energy penetrated his body, traveling along his meridians and stimulating every single one—even a high monk would howl under this method.

The madman was already mentally unstable; within a dozen breaths, he was trembling uncontrollably, his tears and snot mixed with mud and dust, making his face look even more pitiful.

Even Miyoshi Ryota and Nanako couldn't bear to watch anymore. The key was that they didn't understand why Li Miao would engage in such behavior that looked like venting, or what the point of torturing a madman was, so they wanted to speak up and stop him.

"You—"

Before they could utter the second word, Lu Wushuang walked in front of them with her arms crossed and swept a cold glance at them.

"My lord's actions—is it your place to interrupt?"

Nanako was too timid to make a sound, but Miyoshi Ryota, unable to bear seeing a fellow successor of the Hon'i sword arts being tortured, mustered his courage and said.

"No, I just—"

Lu Wushuang sneered, interrupting him.

"Just what? Pity, sympathy, identification?"

"You've used them in the wrong place."

She turned halfway and pointed at the madman who was wailing on the ground under Li Miao's whipping.

"Have you forgotten what that monk said yesterday? Among the four schools of Hon'i sword arts, the Kurama-ryū died at the Hachiman-gū, and the last successor of the Nen-ryū converted to Buddhism. Look at the monk's robes he's wearing!"

"He is that successor of the Nen-ryū who converted to Buddhism!"

Miyoshi Ryota took a deep breath and hesitated.

"Perhaps it was forced by circumstances, perhaps something happened in between that we don't know about; he might not necessarily be a traitor standing on the side of Buddhism..."

Lu Wushuang shook her head with a sneer.

"Did you spend all of last night sleeping, without using your brain at all?"

She spread her hands and said coldly.

"Look at what the Tang Zhaotisi looks like now; could it have fallen into such disrepair in just a day or two?" ===== CHAPTER 556 =====
