Chapter 205

~6 min read 1,002 words

After Jiang Yuan and the others left, Lu Fang exhaled in relief, watching the approaching demon barbarians and saying to Song Ce, who was struggling against the celestial and terrestrial pressure: “Don’t you dare follow me.”

“If I remember correctly, I’ve never met you before—but you resemble someone I know. Yet you’re not him… No, Lord Wen Guan, long time no see!”

Song Ce gritted his teeth: “I don’t know how you came to appear here in this form, but only you could wield pressure as a weapon so powerfully.”

“You can even fake your realm? I underestimated you—you’re stranger than I imagined.”

“If your true realm were truly Fourth Rank, you wouldn’t just control me—you’d have killed me by now.”

“How about it? Did I guess right?”

Song Ce’s expression turned manic.

Lu Fang’s face remained unreadable; he slightly raised an eyebrow. “I have no idea what you’re referring to, but I advise you—don’t follow. Take these demon barbarians and flee. Do you really think the Great Zhou court is unaware of what you’re doing?”

With that, his entire body dissolved into a streak of light and vanished.

Song Ce froze at these words. When he felt the weight on his body vanish, he coldly cracked his neck and muttered: “Did I imagine it?”

“That shouldn’t be possible!”

“Who is this man? How does he know about this place?”

As he pondered this, several Fourth-Rank demon barbarians arrived. One, a white-feathered eagle demon with fully extended white wings, shrieked sharply: “Why did you let them all escape?”

Song Ce replied calmly: “Didn’t you see that fellow is a Fourth Rank martial cultivator? I’m only Fifth Rank, First Stage—how could I possibly stop them?”

The Bai Yuying’s triangular eyes slanted upward coldly. “A Fourth Rank martial cultivator? If I hadn’t been delayed earlier, I could’ve wiped out all four myself.”

Song Ce crossed his arms. “Then it’s your word. You chase them down. We’ll stay here and observe how to enter the Lesser Upper Realm.”

“What do you mean?”

The Bai Yuying glared at Song Ce, fire nearly spilling from its eyes.

Song Ce showed no fear. “Didn’t you say so yourself? I have full faith in your strength. Surely, dealing with a few weak humans would be child’s play for you?”

The Bai Yuying held high status, but so did Song Ce here—they were equals. He had no reason to fear it.

The Bai Yuying had always looked down on him and frequently mocked him.

So he intended to set a trap.

He had a feeling—the bearded middle-aged man was no ordinary cultivator. Even if he couldn’t kill the Bai Yuying, he’d surely wound it.

The Bai Yuying snorted coldly: “Fine. Come with me to recapture those four humans. Song Ce, you return alone.”

Song Ce smiled slyly, goading: “What? Didn’t you say one was enough? Are you afraid? If you can’t handle it alone, I suggest we don’t pursue. Our goal is to find the entrance to the Lesser Upper Realm.”

“Taking your top combatant away wastes too much time.”

His smile carried a hint of mockery.

The Bai Yuying paused, then growled: “Fine. I’ll chase them alone. You and Song Ce return. I’ll bring back those four humans.”

“Be careful,” Song Ce said, feigning concern. “That bearded man is strong.”

As expected, the Bai Yuying sneered: “You think I’m as weak as you?”

The moment the words left its mouth—

The Bai Yuying let out a piercing cry and shot off in the direction Lu Fang had fled.

“Let’s go,” Song Ce said cheerfully. “It won’t take long before it catches those four weak humans.”

The dozen or so other Fourth-Rank demon barbarians exchanged glances but obeyed Song Ce. Here, Song Ce and Bai Yuying held the highest status; if both agreed, none dared object.

As a flying beast, the Bai Yuying was unmatched in speed. It caught up to Jiang Yuan and the others in no time.

“One human is missing!”

The Bai Yuying flashed before Jiang Yuan’s group, blocking their path. It paid them no mind—its mind was fixed on why it had lost the bearded man.

With its speed, that shouldn’t have happened.

“Fourth Rank demon!”

Jiang Yuan swallowed hard, instinctively stepping back two paces.

Bei Tian and the Five Precepts monk also looked grim. They knew full well—they stood no chance against a Fourth Rank demon.

The Bai Yuying sneered. “Cut off one arm and one leg each. I’ll spare one of you. Do it before I change my mind.”

Jiang Yuan said nothing. But her eyes burned with resolve as she drew her twin greatswords.

Bei Tian grinned bitterly. “What a repulsive sight. You want us to cut off our limbs? Prove you have the strength. Even if we die, we’ll make you bleed.”

The Five Precepts monk chanted a Buddha’s name; Buddhist seals flared around him. “I hate this sight too. I really dislike it.”

“Foolish mortals!” The Bai Yuying’s eyes narrowed, ready to obliterate the three—when its body suddenly froze. A smile curled on its lips as it turned toward the bearded man hurtling toward them.

Fourth Rank martial cultivator.

The strongest among the four.

But it paid him no mind. His arrival was convenient—it saved the trouble of hunting him down.

“Do many of your kind have flying demons? I’ve met several arrogant eagles already.”

Lu Fang had been hiding, observing. Though he didn’t know why, when he saw the Bai Yuying chase after him alone while Song Ce led the rest away, he waited a moment, confirmed it was real, then followed.

“Are many of your humans annoying Confucian scholars? I’ve met several too. But you’re unlucky—I dislike your tone. I’ll make you beg for death.”

The Bai Yuying snarled.

“Try it.” Lu Fang stomped forward. Space around the Bai Yuying twisted. *Boom!* Its white wings flared violently, its body reeling.

No wonder it was a Fourth Rank demon.

Even under Lu Fang’s celestial and terrestrial pressure, it suffered little.
