After resting in Changling for a day, early the next morning, Jiaojiao got up early, and the group finally set off back to Yuansu.

Although it’s been only two years since they left, as the car drove all the way back, the group couldn’t help but feel a flood of emotions, especially when approaching Yuansu. Jiaojiao saw Ruanlin Family sneaking a few tears. She quietly went over and held her hand. Ruanlin Family turned to look at her, smiled, and said it was nothing.

Over the past few years, the road from Yuansu to Changling has improved significantly. Previously, it took nearly a whole morning to travel; now it takes less than three hours.

When Jiaojiao and the others arrived home, it was past eleven o’clock, just at the hottest part of noon.

But Jiaojiao didn’t feel hot; on one hand, she had a weak constitution, so her hands and feet were cold even in the sweltering summer. On the other hand, she was too excited to care about the heat.

After the Ruan Family’s big house moved away from Yuansu, the duplex in the town was sold long ago, and now the city school-distributed apartment is where Ruan Jianmin and Ruan Qun live. Ruan Qun just finished the college entrance exam this year, and although the grades are not out yet, with his scores, entering a top-tier university is absolutely no problem.

Knowing Jiaojiao and the others were coming back, Jiandang’s new wife, Liu Qingyun, who is diligent, came to this city villa to clean up early.

Actually, when Jiaojiao and the others moved away from Yuansu, they intended to let the second house of the Ruan Family live here. Partly because houses without residents can easily deteriorate, and partly because Liu Qingyun is good-natured, Shu Jiao has always been generous and didn’t mind letting them live, but Jiandang and Liu Qingyun tactfully declined.

Without Liao Zhaoji constantly moving things to her maternal home as before, Jiandang bought a house in the city years ago. According to Liu Qingyun, since the kids are not around often—Ruan Wei went to Beidu for studies last year—the villa feels empty with just the couple living there, and it’s more comfortable to reside in their own smaller house.

However, the couple still occasionally came to check on the villa, so when Jiaojiao and the others returned this time, even though the villa was somewhat old, it was clean everywhere, just like when they initially lived here.

Ruanlin Family was indeed filled with homesickness. Her eyes turned red as soon as she got out of the car, looking all around inside and outside. Liu Qingyun followed behind, occasionally comforting her.

Despite Ruanlin Family’s strong personality, she couldn’t help but be extremely satisfied with this daughter-in-law who came halfway.

While the adults were downstairs preparing food, Jiaojiao seized the moment to take Yu Rou to see her former room.

Compared to the bedroom in Beidu, the furniture here appeared much older and couldn’t match Beidu’s high-quality furnishings, but these familiar settings unexpectedly offered her a sense of belonging.

She lay on the bed, hugged the obviously washed quilt beside her, took a sniff, and blissfully closed her eyes. When she opened her eyes and turned around, she swallowed back the word ’brother’ that was about to come out.

As soon as Jiaojiao lay down, Yu Rou imitated her and lay down too. Seeing her turn over, she mouthed something and then swallowed her words, making out Jiaojiao’s lip shape, teasing with a smile, "Jiaojiao, should I leave now?"

Jiaojiao got a bit annoyed, reached out to tickle her waist. Yu Rou was ticklish, laughed and squirmed, and the two began to play around on the bed.
