Chapter 129: Private Dinner
"Beep-beep-beep!" A special metal link on the metal bracelet of the watch on Audrey He Ben's left wrist emitted a prompt sound.
After the lady lightly touched it, the prompt sound stopped. He immediately stood up and walked toward the hotel entrance.
At this moment, the page boy guarding the entrance happened to open the door and walked in. Upon seeing Lady He Ben, he blocked the glass door so it wouldn't close, saying at the same time, "Lady, your car has arrived."
"Thank you." Handing over a tip, Audrey He Ben came to the car.
Henry was already waiting at the rear door, opening it at the right moment, and extending a hand to block the upper edge of the car door to prevent his head from accidentally bumping, serving the lady as she got in.
Driving a rented Volvo, Henry prepared to take Audrey He Ben to a French restaurant he had booked a few days ago for dinner.
As for the lady's watch, that metal link which made the sound was the result of Henry's modification. It was simply a function where one side transmitted a signal and this side would ring.
Previously, the Bluetooth headset connection distance was limited and not that convenient.
Moreover, sometimes only an alarm-like prompt was needed; communication or conversation wasn't always necessary. So Henry had put together this new gadget.
The function was very simple: when Henry was ready, he could notify Lady He Ben via the bracelet. Like the situation just now, the car had been driven to the entrance, notifying the person to come out.
Conversely, when Henry was not by Lady He Ben's side, the modified bracelet could also serve as a call bell, reminding Henry, who might be anywhere, that Lady He Ben was looking for him.
Such things were just a combination of a transmitter, a receiver, and a buzzer. Anyone with relevant knowledge could assemble such a small-volume device by buying electronic parts on the roadside.
After hearing Henry's explanation, Lady He Ben didn't think these little things were anything special; as long as they worked, that was fine.
However, in the eyes of someone who truly understood the trade, it was not quite the same matter. At the very least, miniaturizing the device enough to hide it within a metal link of a lady's watch meant no off-the-shelf electronic parts could be randomly assembled into such a small device.
Anyway, Li's approach was not to reject using the Kryptonian's precision processing capabilities to make some convenient little gadgets. As long as the concept wasn't too ahead of its time, these little things wouldn't really attract others' attention unless it was someone who truly understood the trade.
"By the way, Henry."
"Yes, Mr."
"Later, after you hand the car over to someone else, come into the restaurant and have dinner with us," Audrey He Ben said.
"Mr., isn't today your private schedule to meet a friend?" Henry asked.
Henry knew the other party was Hubert de Givenchy, Lady He Ben's close friend, who had specially rushed from France to New York.
He Ben asked in return, "Didn't I ask you to reserve three seats?"
"Yes. Could it be that the third seat isn't for a guest brought by Mr. Givenchy?"
Audrey He Ben said, "No, the third guest is you. There are no other restaurants nearby, and you, my child, are a glutton. The chef at that restaurant, when he was in France, made an oxtail soup that left a deep impression on me.
"I think even you would be amazed. Just consider it me wanting to show off in front of you. Don't worry, I will cover the dinner costs; it won't be deducted from your salary."
"Thanks, Mr." Henry no longer declined.
As for the talk of deducting salary, it was just Lady He Ben's sense of humor acting up. He had never been stingy with costs for food and lodging; on the contrary, he was quite generous. Unless restricted by other organizers, Henry's food and lodging were at the same level as his.
It had just rained in New York today, so the ground was still somewhat wet. Some people on the road carried umbrellas, while others did not; they all hurried through this bustling city, stepping through the puddles on the ground.
Watching this fast-paced city, Audrey He Ben simply could not like it wholeheartedly.
However, this did not affect his good mood in going to meet a close friend.
Givenchy, who originally operated his own luxury brand, had joined the LVMH Group in recent years, becoming its creative director.
Today, Mr. Givenchy, amidst his busy schedule, flew to New York to comfort his close friend who had just survived a pursuit by local warlords in Africa and an emergency plane landing.
They arrived at the restaurant quickly. Henry opened the car door, helped the lady out, handed the rented car to the valet at the entrance, and then followed the lady into this high-end French restaurant where one couldn't eat without a reservation.
"Bing-ju, Lady. Mr. Givenchy is already waiting at your reserved seat. Please allow me to escort you to your table." The restaurant manager personally welcomed this big star at the entrance.
When making the reservation, Henry had already mentioned the guests' identities, so the restaurant manager naturally treated it with extra caution.
However, the guests' information was not known to everyone in the restaurant beforehand; basically, only the manager who accepted the reservation knew. This was to prevent staff from leaking information to paparazzi reporters, causing trouble for the restaurant's guests.
For high-end restaurants of their caliber, besides basic issues like cuisine and hygiene, they also did a very good job regarding guests' privacy and protection. At the very least, the staff were trained to remain calm regardless of who they saw.
If any star or celebrity came, and the staff were chattering and scrambling to get autographs and photos, probably no one who had been there would want to come a second time.
Of course, there were also restaurants that interacted using this close mode. But most celebrities come to high-end restaurants precisely to avoid being treated like gorillas in a zoo.
They had already acted like monkeys enough during normal times; when they wanted to rest, no one was willing to put on a commercial smile and show a very kind attitude to everyone they saw.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was very relaxed, not that strict atmosphere where the chef and restaurant manager were sick enough to forbid guests from doing anything other than eating, including talking.
The interior layout and lighting were also very bright, allowing people to have a normal dinner. It wasn't that dim atmosphere where special lighting was used to color the dishes, making the whole restaurant quite ambiguous.
Under the restaurant manager's lead, Lady He Ben entered the restaurant. An elegant old gentleman saw her at a glance and immediately stood up happily to welcome her.
"Givenchy."
"Audrey."
The two warmly exchanged a cheek kiss.
For Givenchy, who created his own luxury brand, this surname represented him, and he took pride in it. So, regardless of closeness, everyone called him 'Givenchy', not by his first name or nickname.
"Who is this young man?" Givenchy looked at Henry and asked kindly.
"Oh, this is my new assistant, Henry Brown. A very interesting child; I thought I must introduce you two to each other someday." Lady He Ben said with a playful smile.
Hearing this, Henry instinctively felt something was wrong. However, he still extended his hand proactively and introduced himself to this big shot in the fashion world: "Henry Brown. Mr. Givenchy, it is a great honor to meet you today."
