Chapter 144: Requesting Reinforcements
Even if you don't seek trouble, trouble will still come to your door.
Henry, who was squatting and arranging the flower bed, was covered in dirt by a dog's digging.
Lady He Ben laughed maliciously from the side, making no move to stop her own dog's actions.
Henry was thinking about how to describe the delicious taste of dog meat hotpot in French. Tonight, he would persuade the two elders to nourish themselves. If any Chinese medicinal herbs were lacking, he would fly to buy them!
Just as he was about to fire a heat ray at that raised dog's butt, a maid cleaning inside the house shouted in French: "Henry, there's a phone call for you."
"A phone call? Who is it?" Henry asked. Basically, no one would call Lady He Ben's home specifically asking for him; usually, they asked for Robert, or directly for the lady herself.
The maid replied, "I don't know who it is. He kept speaking English, and I couldn't understand. I only heard 'Henry, Henry.' You speak English, so you come and listen."
People who speak English as an international language can walk around Europe, but the chance of hitting a wall is high. However, now was not the time to complain. Henry quickly stood up, brushed the dust off his clothes, and said, "Coming right away."
Perhaps the caller wanted to find him, the little assistant, to arrange the lady's schedule. This happened often in New York; people wanting to invite Lady He Ben usually found him first to confirm the lady's schedule before making an invitation.
So, after nodding to the lady who was still arranging the flower bed, Henry jogged into the house, reached the phone, and picked it up. Speaking in English, he said, "This is Henry, who is calling?"
A female voice came through the phone, saying, "This is Raven. Yes, Mystique from the X-Men."
"Click!" Henry hung up the phone as fast as possible without breaking the telephone.
Lady He Ben, who had entered the room a moment late, was taking off her gardening gloves and asked, "Henry, who was it?"
"Wrong number."
As soon as Henry answered, the phone rang again. Lady He Ben shot him a reproachful look, clearly feeling this was not a simple "wrong number." Henry could only reluctantly pick up the phone again.
Before the receiver even reached his ear, he heard the person on the other end cursing loudly: "Motherfucker, you damn alien! If you dare hang up on my phone again, I'll..."
"Click!" Henry hung up the phone again with the same lightning speed.
Although he didn't know if Lady He Ben had heard the content clearly, Henry just made a face and said, "The person on the other end has a bit of a temper. Let's wait until they calm down."
"Hmm, I think if you keep hanging up on people like this, the person on the other end won't calm down," Lady He Ben said fairly.
However, she was also certain the call had nothing to do with official business. Otherwise, this little assistant wouldn't have such an attitude.
Then the phone rang again.
Henry looked at the ringing phone with utter disgust, thinking about whether he should just punch it to pieces. Lady He Ben, however, wore an expression of watching a good show, glancing at the phone and then winking at Henry.
Helplessly, Henry picked up the phone and preemptively said, "Speak calmly, or I will hang up on you again."
"I am very calm now. I am so damn calm that I don't want to fly to Switzerland right now to beat you to death."
"Calm down, lady. I thought the little misunderstanding between us had been settled before. The best way to get along is never to contact each other again. Now you are calling to my boss's home, which puts me in a difficult position."
Lady He Ben's mouth formed a circle, making an expression of sudden realization on the side. She probably thought this was some kind of romantic debt.
Well, the content of his speech did have the suspicion of being misleading. But it was better than bringing the trouble of mutants into the lady's life.
"Misunderstanding! If the misunderstanding you speak of is that you wiped out the X-Men, do you think there will ever be a day when we are even?" the voice on the phone shouted at the top of its lungs.
"Hey, hey, hey, speak properly. I didn't wipe anyone out. No one died. I was very gentle."
'Very gentle.' Lady He Ben made no sound, only moving her lips. Then she walked past Henry with a motherly smile, her eyes full of amusement, and entered the kitchen.
Henry, struck by the glances and expressions of an Oscar-winning actress to the point of feeling he had fallen into the abyss of social death, suddenly thought about whether he should really just wipe out the X-Men.
Let the world explode!
The voice on the phone said dissatisfiedly, "If you want to settle it, come help me now. I will decide whether to let you off based on your performance."
"Hey, big sister, are you kidding? Our relationship isn't that good, and I don't owe you that much. There's no logic in being available whenever called. Ah, no, there's no logic in saying that if you call, I must come."
"Am I talking reason with you? Do I need to talk reason with you? Are you crazy? Why would you think I talk reason?"
Suddenly feeling the other person made a lot of sense, what should he do?
For some reason, Henry felt panicked. Especially seeing Lady He Ben secretly peeking out from the kitchen, that action of trying to cover up only made Henry feel it was better to just kill a few X-Men.
Mystique on the phone said again, "Anyway, what you said before was not wrong. We really have a problem over here. So I need your help."
Henry looked helpless and said, "I am used to talking nonsense. Where was I not wrong? Ah, no, sister, if you have a problem, solve it yourselves."
"The X-Men are quite impressive, having just solved the solar flares in outer space. By the way, I'm just asking, who wrote that public relations copy? It must have cost a lot of public relations fees to silence so many astrophysicists."
Mystique said, "It is precisely because the X-Men have a problem. I can't trust some people, so I need combat support outside the X-Men. Besides, many of the things you said before were correct. You also need to explain to me properly what you know."
"I..."
Henry, who still wanted to make excuses, was interrupted. Mystique cut in, saying, "You owe me. At least I didn't send the X-Men to settle the score with you. If you don't come, you know the consequences."
Threatened, Henry gave up trying to reason with a woman. He said helplessly, "You at least have to let me know where to find you. Or do you really want to come to Switzerland to pick me up?"
"We are on a plane, heading towards..."
"Click!" Hanging up the phone for the third time, Henry vented a little and felt his mood ease somewhat.
"Are you going out?" Lady He Ben, who had walked out of the kitchen, asked.
"Anyway, it's just a troublesome person causing trouble and asking me to solve their trouble for them. This is truly troublesome," Henry said with great reluctance.
"Should I save dinner for you?"
"I think not. I'll solve it outside. I don't know how late they will drag this out."
"Shall I call a car for you?"
"No need. A car won't be fast enough. I'll figure it out myself."
Lady He Ben said finally, "Child, be careful with everything."
