Chapter 20: Consultation
Driving back to the office, that older woman was still sitting at her post, busy with her work.
Tang Mu first had the guest sit down, then casually picked up an old backpack, emptied its contents, and handed it to Henry, saying, "Exchange your money for this backpack to carry it. This backpack is a gift to you."
"Why exchange?" Henry asked, confused.
"When that bank encounters customers withdrawing cash, if they have no bag to carry it in, they provide the same kind of bag. So, a person walking outside with such a bag is like telling others, 'I have money, come rob me quickly.'"
Henry frowned and asked, "Is the bank colluding with people outside?"
Tang Mu explained, "No, the bank isn't that low. However, no matter how they change things, they will be targeted by those with ulterior motives. So only a naive greenhorn like you would run around carrying that kind of bag."
"You are someone introduced by George. I don't want you to be robbed the moment you walk out from my place. That would count as me failing in my duty."
Having understood the situation, Henry didn't deliberately change bags. He simply stuffed the bag provided by the bank into the backpack Tang Mu gave him; as long as that conspicuous handbag wasn't on the outside, it didn't matter how the money was packed.
Seeing Henry finish, Tang Mu tapped the table with his finger and said, "Since I've helped you withdraw the money, let's talk about our business now. My fee for handling the necessary documents and procedures for you is two thousand dollars."
"Two thousand!" Henry's eyes widened, and he said in surprise, "Cheaper than I imagined. Is this for real documents, not fake ones?"
Tang Mu smiled and said, "Trust me, getting real ones is cheaper than getting fake ones. The reason ordinary people can't do it is that they don't know who to find; even if they find someone, that person might not know how to do it."
"The law opens many doors for those who understand. As long as you walk the straight path, where is the need to spend a pile of wasted money? It's just that most people who know have a tacit understanding not to speak up. After all, they have no obligation to help others unconditionally, right?"
Some say the methods to make money are written in the criminal code. This is both right and wrong.
It is said to be right because illegal things really do have profit! It's just that the cost paid is elsewhere, such as getting caught and so on.
It is said to be wrong because, in the eyes of those playing high-level games, the earnings are not only troublesome but also small change...
Just think, can an ordinary person rob a bank of one hundred million in one go? And not be chased by the police afterwards?
【16】 For such matters, although Henry was no longer surprised, he didn't think much of it either.
As the saying goes, 'Let him be strong, let him be strong; the clear breeze brushes the mountain ridge.' As long as I lie flat enough, the air resistance is low! This is physics knowledge, scientifically proven.
Although he didn't know if Tang Mu was as formidable as he claimed, Henry still chose to trust the person George recommended. That old fellow wouldn't just arrange someone randomly with the idea of scamming his own salary back, would he?
So Henry didn't hesitate, reached into the bag, took out a bundle of money, placed it on the table, and pushed it over.
Tang Mu picked up the full bundle of banknotes with the bank seal, and said half-mockingly, "Oh, kid, do you want me to count the money myself?"
"I have some questions I'd like to ask. If you can help, that would be even better." Henry pointed to the floor-to-ceiling window outside and said, "A consulting company, isn't it?"
Putting down the full bundle of banknotes in his hand, Tang Mu pushed it back to the middle of the table. With a steady demeanor, he looked at the young man before him. "Speak. I can't necessarily do everything."
"Is there a car rental company here? I want to rent a car."
"Rent a car? There are none in town. You have to go near Hooper Bay Airport to find private rental companies. Why not just buy a car? Those rentals are for tourists, and the fees aren't cheap."
Henry honestly said, "I plan to try my luck in Hollywood after the crabbing season is over."
Henry said honestly, "I plan to head to Hollywood to try my luck after the crab season's over."
"Not necessarily, maybe just to see the world. Anyway, I won't stay here for too long. Buying a car and then having to sell it later is troublesome. Asking someone to look after it is the same."
Tang Mu said seriously, "If you are willing to listen to my opinion, my advice is still to buy a car. I don't know how many more times you plan to go on a crabbing boat. Without a bank account, trust me, you won't want to carry that bag through airport security."
Tang Mu said seriously, "If you're willing to hear my opinion, then my advice to you is still to buy a car. I don't know how many more crab boats you're planning to board, but without a bank account, trust me, you won't want to carry that bag through airport security. —"
"—So the most advantageous choice for you is to take the ferry. And another benefit of the ferry is that by paying an extra shipping fee, you can drive the car onto it and have it arrive at your destination with you."
"This way, you also save the time of finding transportation locally and reduce some unnecessary troubles."
Henry frowned and asked, "Will domestic airport security also cause trouble?"
Tang Mu helplessly shrugged and said, "You can never know how those holding public power will use the power entrusted to them. I only know that smart people know how to proactively stay away from trouble."
"In comparison, the ferry is much simpler. Buy a ticket, drive the car onto the ship; arrive at the destination, drive the car off. Done. Even if you are carrying a whole carriage of explosives, as long as you don't detonate it on the spot, no one will bother you."
Leaning his elbows on the table, Tang Mu leaned his body forward and said, "Of course, a small drawback of the ferry is that it takes longer. If you feel that is not good, I have no objection. I am just offering advice."
"Alright then, help me buy a car. Or tell me where there is a used car lot?"
"What are your requirements for a car?"
"Four wheels, and it runs when you add gas."
Chuckling, Tang Mu unhooked a car key from his keychain and tossed it to Henry. He said, "The used car lots in town sell nothing but junk. You might as well drive this beauty."
Henry looked at the key in his hand with disgust, then looked at old Tang Mu.
The grumpy old man said dissatisfiedly, "Hey, that's a Cadillac DeVille, a 1965 classic. Who wouldn't like this beauty? Besides, there's a benefit to you driving this car."
Uh, 25 years old. The condition of that car wasn't that of a carefully maintained antique; it was just kept relatively clean.
Although his own standards weren't high, it felt like collecting scrap. Henry asked, somewhat dissatisfied, "What benefit?"
"Just by looking at the license plate, the cops on the road won't stop you. Even if they do stop you, just tell them that old Tang Mu is still handling the documents and transfer procedures; no one will bother you."
So the real value lies in the license plate. Henry silently accepted the car key.
"Is there anything else I can help you with?" Tang Mu asked, satisfied. He didn't know whether Henry was happy about getting a new car or had made a lot of money from this deal of his.
