Chapter 210: I Don't Want To
Compared to the black, fat senator wearing a silk pajama set, Henry, who had been dragged over like a dead dog, was still wearing the same clothes from yesterday. He hadn't brought any change of clothes to join this unwilling new job.
The two men in black suits who had been dragging Henry all the way threw him onto the ground upon reaching the senator. Henry let out an "Ouch!" as he fell, crying out in pain.
The fat senator did not change his arrogant attitude. Looking down at Henry, who was lying face-down with his rear in the air, he said, "Mutant, it is time for you to fulfill your function. Protect me and ensure my safe departure."
Henry rolled over and sat on the ground, calmly taking out a cigarette he had somehow produced from somewhere, and lit it with a slow, respectful demeanor as if performing some kind of ritual.
After exhaling a long stream of smoke, he finally said, "Mr. Senator, please forgive me for refusing this job. I never wanted to help you from the very beginning; why force a trivial little person like me?"
"You!" The fat senator swallowed, then his face changed drastically. He said viciously, "Do you know what the consequence of offending me will be? Mutant."
"What consequence?" Henry widened his eyes, asking with the look of an overly curious child.
"I won't survive, and neither will you." The fat senator, seething with rage, shouted to the attendants beside him, "Kill him! I will handle the aftermath."
Who knows where this black, fat senator hired such a group of ruthless men. At his single command, almost everyone drew their guns and fired!
There were a few who stood frozen, watching the show; most of these people were with the group that had dragged Henry out earlier. However, they were too late to stop their comrades, and the whole group just watched the man sitting on the ground get shot down by a hail of bullets.
Henry continued to wail on the side, making it sound as if it were a real ordeal. The shooters didn't think much of it; hearing the sounds, they continued firing until they emptied a magazine.
Henry, who was rolling on the ground after being riddled with bullets, caused the floor beside him to suffer the same fate, pockmarked and scarred by the gunfire.
But by the time everyone had emptied their bullets, Henry, still rolling on the ground, changed his cries of pain into a deep-throated laughter. The mocking intent was obvious.
Seeing this scene finally made everyone remember why they had sought out this man in the first place.
The fat senator wore that same expression of dumbfounded shock, full of comedic effect. Completely ignoring that he had been the one who ordered his men to shoot, he quickly changed his tune and said, "I will give you one million dollars to protect me and get me out."
Henry laughed and said, "Oh, Mr. Senator, I might not be able to meet your request. Right now, my entire body is in pain; I might have fractures, muscle strains, broken nails, and split ends.
"If anyone shoots me a few more times, I might not be able to hold on. So, keep that one million dollars for yourself to arrange a decent funeral; perhaps you can hire a cardinal to preside. Ah, I'm dying, I'm dying... Hahaha!"
No matter how good the acting, one couldn't hold it together in such a situation; Henry simply broke character and laughed. He laughed until he was rolling on the ground.
"Fuck! You're dead, you're really dead. I know the military is still conducting mutant experiments. You think bullets can't hurt you, so you can..."
"Bang bang bang bang!" Gunshots rang out at close range. The reason Henry had been causing such a ruckus here for so long was simply to delay time, allowing those gunmen to break in.
Today's matter was very simple; Henry didn't even need to figure out how to borrow a knife to kill. This old black man had made himself a target for others, so he was treating Henry as a straw to save him.
No need to expose abilities, no need to dirty his own hands; just pretend to be dead and rot, and naturally, someone would step forward to deal with this guy.
However, whether this group's brains just couldn't turn or for some other reason, the fat old black man in front of them only focused his attention on himself, and not a single person beside him offered a reminder.
Was this a case of desperation leading to irrational choices? Otherwise, it was impossible to imagine why a normal person would behave with such stupidity.
What was even more critical was that the group breaking in was quite disciplined. While the people inside were distracted, they did not startle the snake; instead, they quietly deployed their formation, occupying all advantageous positions on the front, and half-surrounding the senator's party.
Once their deployment was complete, they immediately launched an attack!
One could say Henry became the biggest assist; he even used himself as bait, causing most of the senator's attendants to empty their magazines.
So the first wave of the assault took down quite a few people. Yet, that black senator with the largest area seemed to have divine assistance, as not a single bullet aimed at him.
Partly because it was late at night, with only weak lighting inside the room, everyone could only see shadowy figures and couldn't distinguish who was who.
Facing this obvious encirclement, the senator's attendants seemed to have their IQs come online. Those with bullets left in their guns did not stop to exchange fire with the enemy; instead, they immediately took their employer and headed towards the retreat direction.
As for the unlucky ones who had been shot down, their fate was unknown, and no one went to rescue them. Even Henry, who was clearly uncooperative, was abandoned.
Even if they were stupid, they should have seen clearly this time. Bringing Henry along not only served no purpose but could even hinder them.
So no one mentioned whether they should drag him away to continue using him as a meat shield. Because to do that, at least someone would have to go and 'drag' him.
It would require at least two people, slowing down their speed; he might also speak up and reveal their position, and then they still couldn't kill him... At this moment, everyone really wanted to ask, which pig proposed recruiting this mutant?
Henry, who had risen from the ground, sneered and coldly watched that confused old fat black senator flee in a panic.
Previously, many old-money figures with greater power and wealth than this old black man had extended an olive branch to Henry. Henry accepted none of them; those groups didn't even complain, just smiling as they left.
Do old-money people have more cultivation?
Don't be ridiculous. Because those people understood that for a job like blocking bullets, if the person themselves is unwilling to cooperate, it is truly better to buy several more bulletproof briefcases for their team's configuration.
Furthermore, to serve as an attendant inevitably involves a certain degree of participation in one's privacy. Therefore, whether this person is trustworthy is a very important matter.
Can such a candidate be forced or threatened into submission? This would be showing that one's life is too long, not fearing that the other party might drop the ball at a critical moment.
Any normal person could think of this point. This is also why, back then, to prove he was capable of serving as Audrey Lady Lady He Ben's assistant and bodyguard, Henry chose to expose that he possessed an Iron Body among many super abilities.
Because this was a purely defensive passive ability with the least threat to others; and if others wanted to utilize it, Henry's willingness was the most critical part.
If simple bribery didn't work, then only threats remained. And since threats against the person themselves were basically ineffective, one would have to target their interpersonal relationships...
For an unknown person with no parents, no wife, no children, and no girlfriend, who could be taken as a hostage to threaten him?
Earlier, in the eyes of some old-money figures, Audrey Lady Lady He Ben could become a weakness for Henry Brown... but now that the person has passed away, should they dig up the grave and use the corpse to threaten him?
The reason Henry stayed today to act out this farce was to use action to prove to all the audience that no matter how big the sky or the earth, "I don't want to" is the biggest!
A salted fish turning over? As long as I don't want to, no matter who brings a spatula, it won't work!
