Chapter 5: Startled Up from Deathbed Illness
A certain DNA fragment incomprehensible to humans began to function, converting the yellow sunlight of this unique wavelength into some form of energy and transmitting it to every part of this nearly spent body.
Do not think that such bone-tempering and marrow-washing, a complete transformation of the body, is a good thing. Such stimulation is like pouring a basin of cold water into hot oil, causing the oil pot to explode directly!
The energy thus converted does not merely raise the body's power level; rather, it brings about a massive enhancement of all sensory and physical functions starting from the cellular foundation.
When a gentle breeze blew past, it struck the sensitive and fragile skin like a battering ram, transmitting the force deep into the body. Not only were the internal organs shaken, but the bones also developed cracks.
Yet these destructions were repaired within an extremely short time, and the repaired parts became stronger than before. This frail body was constantly strengthened through the alternating cycle of destruction and repair.
And those extremely faint sounds that normal people would not notice, as well as ultra-high and ultra-low frequency sounds beyond the human auditory range, were also hammering and strengthening the eardrums and auditory nerves in the same way.
Then came smell, sight, and the touch and pain distributed across every area of the skin. All senses exchanged with the outside world at a speed surpassing human imagination.
To cope with such complex sensory information, the brain's nerves constantly broke through their limits, strengthening and growing again and again.
One could say the forging of an iron body was not inevitable, but a necessary upgrade to bear the feedback after these super-senses were strengthened. Without an iron body, it would be impossible to withstand the pressure brought by these super-senses.
It is like a chassis and drive shaft made of bamboo, unable to utilize eight hundred horsepower; an engine and tire grip at Formula One level would only result in the car falling apart, not producing stunning results.
These cells, sensitive to the extreme, were adapting to the aftereffects caused by excessive sensitivity through this constant self-strengthening.
At the same time, the various cells, strengthened many times over, also possessed somewhat different functions. It is just that these functions await reasonable development.
It is like saying that as long as a car engine is powerful enough, if the appearance and parts are coordinated accordingly, the car can also serve as a speedboat or an airplane.
It is just that if the strengthening process had a long adaptation period, perhaps the strengthened person would not be in so much pain.
But as mentioned before, this is like pouring cold water into a pot of hot oil; all reactions are violent and rapid. The pain in between is unimaginable to outsiders.
Worse still, all of the above is merely physical improvement. Although the brain cells received corresponding strengthening, the mode of thinking did not change or grow along with it.
It is like a supercomputer running early DOS system software, attempting to run AAA-level game masterpieces. Perhaps the hardware can handle it, but without qualified software and hardware drivers, everything is in vain.
Although the brain has shutdown mechanisms, such as causing a person to faint, this only occurs when the function is overloaded, and it is not a true brain shutdown or reboot.
However, the person undergoing change possesses a super brain and nerve cells capable of processing this information, but their logical mode of thinking has not changed accordingly. Therefore, the brain, not yet pushed to its limit, would naturally not take such action.
What is happening to him now is chaotic information interweaving and intersecting in his mind. The optic nerves and auditory nerves are crossing the wrong bridges, while the olfactory area, memory area, and emotional area are fighting for territory.
This is simply not the same as memory confusion, or the situation where external stimulation is too intense, causing the nerves to be unable to bear the load and issuing warning signals in the form of pain.
If one were to speak truly, the situation the changed person now faces is even worse. Because the brain is not performing its due function, but is instead doing things that drag it down.
It is only because the organs and muscles on his body that have already been strengthened are tough enough; otherwise, under the command of a chaotic brain, they might have rebelled too.
Fortunately, the worst did not happen; the entire body was like it was dominated by instinct, allowing it to function normally like a human.
It is just that it is still maintaining a minimum level of manifestation and has not shown itself. So those few Russian youths carrying the 'corpse' did not notice that the thing in their hands was about to rise from the dead.
The trigger was when they arrived at their destination and rudely threw the 'corpse' onto the ground. Several people began looking for a spot and tools, preparing to bury the body.
Whether it was the air flow during movement or the parts grasped by the youths, all brought terrifying stimulation to the unconscious person. That slam, compared to an ordinary person, was no less than a heavy bomb exploding beside them.
If this still could not wake the dead, then the person would truly be dead. So, without unexpected events—well, yes, very unexpected for the few youths—the 'corpse' thrown to the ground sat up in shock and roared!
Such a sudden change nearly made the few youths wet themselves. Among various strange rumors and inhuman enemies, the most troublesome are undoubtedly the 'zombies'.
Because for someone already dead, no one knows how to kill them a second time.
Blow out the head? If that doesn't work, then the one who dies will be themselves!
Before the few youths could think of what to do, the person who rose from the dead ran away... leaving a group of living people staring at each other in silence.
The awakened person's mind was actually still chaotic. What dominated him now was only the body's instinct, just like when a hammer strikes the knee or the bend of the arm, the leg or hand jumps up on its own. It has nothing to do with the brain; it is just a nerve reflex.
So his running was merely instinctively chasing energy, which is the light of the yellow sun. It is the same meaning as a hungry person chasing a scent or a thirsty person wanting water.
Such a chase would naturally not deliberately destroy anything. Any place that would create a shadow would not be his running route.
Therefore, one would not see scenes of crashing into trees or piercing stones along the way. It was just a person, running alone at an astonishing speed, leaving dust in their wake.
When he reached the end of the land, the runner was already completely naked. His cotton patient gown had no ability to resist wind pressure; it had been torn and ripped apart during the run.
The end of the land was not the end of his run. With a single great leap, he jumped from the cliff onto the sea surface, treading water and moving on. His speed did not decrease much compared to his condition on land.
Instead, the shockwave after breaking the sound barrier caused the sea surface to rise in earth-shattering waves, parting to both sides. It was like a speedboat cutting through the water, except the impact and speed brought by this 'speedboat' were at least of the ten-thousand-ton level.
But as the height of the splashing waves became lower and lower, it showed that the runner's speed was also becoming slower and slower.
Finally, he stopped at a coastline, collapsing onto the beach soaked by cold seawater.
