Chapter 102

~7 min read 1,271 words

In fact, the American soldiers' warning could already be considered a show of leniency. Otherwise, the moment they saw them, they could have arrested Magneto, who was classified as a terrorist, or even shot him on the spot.

But an Omega-level mutant, especially one as experienced in struggle as Magneto, is truly not a suitable opponent to face without full plastic equipment.

This was clear not only to the American soldiers but also to Magneto himself. However, since his goal was not these people, he asked the Beast, who was walking up behind him, with a tone of disdain: "Did you arrange this?"

The Beast said helplessly: "If I really had arranged it, I surely would have had a smarter way to do it."

Selene, who also possessed telepathic abilities, said: "Professor X called them here."

"Ah, Charles. Can I say that this is not surprising at all?" Magneto commented on the person who was not present or was hiding in the shadows.

"You, what are you doing!" a soldier suddenly shouted. He shifted his muzzle toward the oddly dressed... clown who had snuck off the X-Jet and was preparing to slip to the side.

The caught Clown-Supes suddenly became the center of attention on the field. He looked at everyone awkwardly, pointed in a certain direction, and said: "I drank too much water on the plane, and now I need to go pee."

"Um... the public restroom is on the other side," the soldier replied inexplicably.

"Oh, thanks." Clown-Supes walked in a different direction. "This way, right?"

"Ah, no! You stop right there, don't move." The soldier raised his gun and pressed it against Clown-Supes.

Clown-Supes, who had frozen in a thief-like, sneaky posture, scanned the people present with a pair of shifty eyes and asked: "So, now it is... ah, look! A shooting star!"

That joke-like remark still made everyone unable to help but look in the direction Clown-Supes was pointing. They saw the night sky as if it were raining fire-red meteors, with every streak of fire heading straight for New York City.

Hank thought of a certain possibility at the first moment and muttered: "Could it be an alien warship from outer space landing?"

Who knew that the American soldier's commander, upon seeing this, would shout excitedly: "Mutant attack! Everyone open fire!"

For the American soldiers who were skeptical about the existence of aliens, seeing someone launch an attack on New York made them believe it was the work of mutants rather than aliens. After all, the notorious terrorist leader, Magneto, was right there on the scene.

The soldiers who received the order did not hesitate and immediately pulled the triggers. The rifles fired strings of bullets, without warning and without mercy.

Magneto was, of course, not someone who would sit and wait for death; he stopped all the bullets that were fired. Selene cooperated, using mental control to freeze all the soldiers. Red Lotus used her hair as a whip to fling everyone away.

The three of them performed a set of combos, their movements smooth and silky, instantly repelling all the soldiers surrounding the X-Jet cabin door. Those bullets also fell to the ground as if they had lost all kinetic energy; it was Magneto's mercy that they did not return to the soldiers who had fired them.

Magneto turned his head and said to the Beast: "So, now our enemies, besides the aliens, also include American soldiers, right."

"This is not what Charles wanted," Hank defended.

"But things have developed in this direction. Not satisfactory, huh." Magneto said to the two people he brought: "Find Jean, take her, and we will leave."

Magneto understood his situation very well. The group that fell from the sky and was mistaken for mutants were not his people. Even if he had confidence in himself, there was no need to get entangled with a group of idiots when he was short-handed.

Furthermore, he had to consider Genosha Island, the last home for mutants; it was impossible to offend the United States to the death. This was also why he only repelled the people and did not kill these soldiers who had offended him.

"Selene," Magneto called out to the witch who had once been the Black Queen of the Hellfire Club. Possessing a long life, her strength was unfathomable; she could be said to be one of the most powerful mutants on Genosha Island besides himself.

There was no need for this near-immortal witch to do anything; even though he was at a low point in his abilities, he could still feel that powerful life energy in a certain direction.

"It's right there!" Selene said.

Magneto did not hesitate and said to everyone: "Let's go. If you don't want us to kill too much, finish the business as soon as possible and leave as soon as possible."

Now even the Beast, this X-Man, could not pick any faults. He had found the people himself; it was impossible to turn against them and send them away.

Besides, things were just as Raven worried. Charles had joined forces with the U.S. military; what if he handed Jean over? He had promised to take that poor girl to a safe place.

So the Beast followed in Magneto's footsteps, grabbing Clown-Supes, who didn't know whether he wanted to slip away or was going in the wrong direction, and followed along.

The group had just reached the edge of the park, near the road. With a "Poof!" sound, Professor X, Cyclops, and Storm, relying on Nightcrawler's teleportation ability, blocked Magneto and the others.

Before anyone on either side could speak, Clown-Supes took the lead in greeting them: "Hey, there's a bald head. Do you mind if I wax it? I think I can use it to replace a crystal ball and make some very good predictions."

Professor X's face turned black, and he asked: "Erik, is this a new mutant you've taken in?"

"Good heavens, thankfully not. You should ask Hank; this is the person he brought."

The Beast looked embarrassed. But from his consciousness, Professor X received that incredible answer, and immediately decided not to pursue it further. The last time he invaded this alien's consciousness, the result was too tragic. He didn't want to experience it again.

Pulling his attention back to his old rival, Professor X said: "Erik, I don't care what demands Raven made to you, just leave. The matter here has nothing to do with you."

Magneto said: "A fellow mutant was wronged, and he came to me for help. I regret that I didn't reach out in time. I won't make such a mistake a second time. On the contrary, I want to ask you, what are you doing bringing the U.S. military here?"

"Bringing the U.S. military here is to deal with that group of people," Professor X said, pointing to the sky, where the meteor shower was still falling incessantly.

"But the reinforcements you brought seem to have mistaken them for my reinforcements. Do you think it's useful to apologize and leave at a time like this? If it were useful, they wouldn't be the U.S. military," Magneto stated coldly.

Professor X said: "So don't you think you should leave even more, to avoid a bigger misunderstanding?"

"And then let you hand Jean over to them?"

"I could never do such a thing!" Professor X said angrily.

"Yes, old friend, I believe you. But I don't believe them," Magneto said pointedly. He looked at the more American soldiers surrounding them from both sides. "When they insist on snatching people, what do you plan to do?"
