Chapter 248: Even with nine lives, she wouldn’t survive the night.

~7 min read 1,379 words

The night fog had cleared, and the sky gradually turned to a transparent blue.

The largest airport in the capital, the crowd was bustling.

Ye Jiuliang took out his phone and pressed the power button.

Glancing at the time, it was already past eight.

At this point, he should be in Mo Garden.

"Master Jiu."

Having received the message, Xue Wu came over early.

Ye Jiuliang took the car keys from his hand, swung his long legs over, and sat on the motorcycle, "Thanks for the hard work."

Xue Wu was nervous, his smile simple and honest.

"I’ll go first."

The "roar" of the engine vibrated as Ye Jiuliang started the bike and sped away.

In the shadows, a gaze followed the direction in which Ye Jiuliang left, a sinister ferocity flitting across the depths of her eyes.

She took out her phone and put it to her ear, her voice chillingly cold, "Get ready to make a move."

It wasn’t for naught that she waited in the capital for so long; he had finally shown up.

On the spacious highway, the black motorcycle raced along.

Pedestrians only felt a gust of wind sweep by, not even catching a glimpse of an afterimage.

Before noon, the scorching heat of summer began to make itself felt,

Ye Jiuliang glanced at the rearview mirror, his gaze suddenly turning cold.

She had just returned, and already a rat was eyeing her.

On the ground, a flash of red light streaked past.

There was a sniper.

Ye Jiuliang’s expression sank slightly, his eyes scanning the surrounding vehicles as he suddenly changed direction.

These bystanders were innocent; he couldn’t allow them to suffer as well.

Not very familiar with the roads of the capital, Ye Jiuliang could only head towards the suburbs, far from the crowds.

Behind him, two or three black cars were hot in pursuit.

Far from the city center, the suburbs were sparsely populated.

You’d hardly see a dog.

Inside the cars, the people lying in wait finally made their move.

Car windows rolled down, the cold barrels of guns simultaneously aimed at the figure on the motorcycle.

The guns were loaded, fingers squeezed the triggers.

The silenced weapons did not attract any attention.

Through the rearview mirror, Ye Jiuliang leaned to the side, the motorcycle skimming near the ground, tires screeching loudly.

"Screech—"

The bullets rained down relentlessly; despite his quick reflexes, Ye Jiuliang couldn’t entirely avoid injury.

A bullet hit his shoulder, blood uncontrollably spilling out.

Damn.

Ye Jiuliang cursed under his breath, his eyes catching a slope not far away, his gaze shifting.

He had to take a gamble.

His eyes flashed with ruthless determination, the motorcycle’s speed soared to the extreme, finding the right direction to charge up the slope.

Lucky the quality of the motorcycle was good, otherwise he would have almost crashed.

Ye Jiuliang steadied himself, but suddenly the motorcycle stalled.

How unlucky could he get.

Ye Jiuliang decisively jumped off the motorcycle, kicked it away with the back of his foot, and then turned and ran.

The slope was too steep for the cars to climb.

A group of men in black exited the vehicles, dodging the crashing motorcycle and closing in from all directions in pursuit.

"Chase."

Above the slope, the trees and vegetation were sparse, offering no place to hide.

The sounds of pursuit were chaotic and urgent.

Their numbers were only growing, not diminishing.

Ignoring the wound on his shoulder, Ye Jiuliang sprinted ahead.

Damn it, next time he really needed to pick a better day to step out.

As bullets whizzed by close to his feet, Ye Jiuliang lowered his body to dodge the attacks from behind, his hand scooping up sand from the ground instinctively.

With a flick of the wrist, dust billowed.

Caught off guard, the black-clad men in front thought it was some kind of hidden weapon, slowed their pace, and raised their hands to block.

Realizing it was just ordinary sand, the black-clad men became annoyed, their fingertips twitching as they continuously pulled the trigger.

Not knowing how long she had been running, Ye Jiuliang reached into her pocket only to find her mobile phone was gone.

Breaking out of the forest, a cliff lay at the end.

Ye Jiuliang halted, drenched in sweat, her shoulder having lost too much blood, her lips already turning pale.

The pursuit from behind did not cease; these black-clad men had been intent on killing from the start, the mastermind behind them clearly wanted her life.

Rolling on the ground, Ye Jiuliang lowered her gaze to the situation below the cliff. The bottom was too deep to see, and the uneven cliffside was draped with many vines.

Her eyes grew darker, and she leaped down.

The bullets once again missed their mark, hitting the ground and kicking up dust.

The black-clad men caught up, looked down at the bottomless cliff, their faces turning grim.

"Boss, what do we do?"

The man at the front sneered coldly, his voice hoarse, "Falling from here, even nine lives wouldn’t be enough for her to survive, let’s go."

"Yes."

The black-clad men turned and left, and the cliff top returned to tranquility once again.

Suspended mid-cliff, Ye Jiuliang clung to the vines, her slender body pressed against the cliff wall, trying to steady herself.

The greenish vines, covered with tiny thorns, turned her pale hands red with fresh blood, which continued to drip down her arms.

Ye Jiuliang looked up, the vines could not bear her weight for much longer.

She surveyed her surroundings calmly, her gaze suddenly pausing on a protruding piece of the cliff not far away.

At a glance, it seemed just large enough for one person to stand on.

Her gaze slightly heavy, she reached out to grab the vines close by, their sharp thorns piercing into her palm as she furrowed her brows.

Using the vines, her slender figure swayed back and forth in midair.

Finally setting foot on the protruding rock, she let go of the vines and exhaled softly.

She lifted her hand to look at her wristwatch, thankful that she hadn’t lost it.

She pressed a small protruding button on the wristwatch, which blinked red light, at times strong and at times weak.

Ye Jiuliang frowned, the signal here intermittent, unsure if it could pinpoint her location.

She looked down, mist shrouded the depths, the bottom invisible.

Falling from here, she reckoned not even remains would be left.

Leaving the airport, Xue Wu fell straight into sleep.

Until his computer emitted an urgent "beep beep" sound.

Xue Wu jolted awake, leapt to the computer desk, and tapped a few keys. A complex topographical map popped up on the screen.

Amidst the red and blue lines, a small red dot was blinking violently.

Xue Wu’s face changed subtly, noting the latitude and direction of the small red dot, he reached for his mobile phone and made a call.

"Prepare the helicopter."

He grabbed his coat in a matter of urgency, dashed out of the room, and hurried to the rooftop helipad.

Noon, the sunlight grew even more scorching.

The blood on her shoulder had stopped, Ye Jiuliang leaned against the cliff wall, the harsh sunlight dazzling her, making her head feel somewhat dizzy.

She glanced at her wristwatch, the small red dot blinking more frequently now.

Suddenly, she heard the sound of helicopter blades whirring.

Ye Jiuliang narrowed her eyes and looked up to see a white helicopter slicing through the blue sky, heading her way.

"Master Jiu, over here."

Xue Wu’s voice came through the loudspeaker from above.

The cabin door opened, and a rope ladder was thrown down.

Ye Jiuliang curled her lips, reached out to grab the rope ladder, her shoulder wound not hindering her speed.

"Master Jiu, take it easy." Xue Wu extended his hand towards her.

Ye Jiuliang took his hand, leveraging herself onto the helicopter.

"Master Jiu, what happened?" Xue Wu looked at Ye Jiuliang’s disheveled condition, the blood on her shoulder and hand startling him.

Ye Jiuliang knitted her brows, a chill flashing in her eyes, "Let’s talk back at base."

Those bastards better pray they don’t get caught by her, or she’d skin them alive.
