Chapter 255: Does He Have the Qualifications? (First Update)
"Mohan, Li Hao did start this, and while he may have acted on his own, others also incited him. After all, Jiuliang wasn’t seriously hurt, so let’s not make a big deal out of this," the elder of the Li Family preemptively spoke up, clearly still intent on protecting the Li Hong household.
"Li Hong and his family were also kept in the dark. Let’s reduce a major issue to a minor one, and not involve anyone else."
A chill settled over Mohan’s eyes, not bothering to hide the cold severity within them, his voice deep, "So forcing someone to jump off a cliff is a minor issue? Why doesn’t everyone seated here try jumping for themselves?"
As soon as the Fifth Master spoke, it was as if he had dropped a depth charge.
The explosion sent everyone present reeling.
"..."
Those words sounded eerily familiar to everyone present.
It seemed as if someone else had said that very same sentence.
Wei Bei looked down to stifle his laugh.
His master was too awesome. Cliff-jumping wasn’t bungee jumping. Did he think everyone was like Ye Jiuliang? If they actually tried, within minutes they’d be off to have tea with the King of Hell.
The direct rebuke from his own son left the patriarch’s face looking especially unsightly.
"Mohan, I can handle this matter myself," Ye Jiuliang said softly, holding onto his hand.
She didn’t care what others thought of her, but she refused to let anyone speak ill of him.
The touch of the cool leather gloves caught Mohan’s attention.
No wonder he had felt like he missed something earlier; his wolf cub was wearing gloves.
Mohan’s gaze darkened as he took hold of her hand, "Why are you wearing gloves?"
"I’m here to settle accounts; I was afraid of staining my hands with blood since I have a penchant for cleanliness," Ye Jiuliang replied with an indifferent face, finding an excuse to fend him off.
Her excuse might fool others, but it couldn’t escape from Mohan’s penetrating black eyes.
He grasped her hand, making a move to pull off her gloves.
Ye Jiuliang’s eyes flickered as she tried to withdraw her hand, but he was quicker and grabbed it first.
Unintentionally gripping too hard, he pressed on her wound, causing Ye Jiuliang to slightly furrow her brows.
Catching that tiny expression, Mohan immediately lightened his grip on her hand.
"Be good, listen to me, let me see."
Realizing she couldn’t avoid it, Ye Jiuliang stopped hiding and allowed Mohan to remove her glove.
In an instant, her fair, jade-like skin was revealed to be densely covered in scars, some cuts so deep they reached the bone.
Even Wei Bei hadn’t expected Ye Jiuliang’s gloves to be concealing wounds, and for a moment, he was stunned.
Mohan’s eyes became abruptly more intense, a menacing calmness brewing within as he asked with a raspy and deep voice, "Are these injuries from falling down the cliff?"
The man’s eyes tinged with a faint red, an overwhelming fury almost ready to erupt.
"It’s a minor injury, it’s nothing," Ye Jiuliang reassured, taking back her gloves to put them on once more.
Those around who heard her statement and then saw the ghastly wounds on her hands, looked at Ye Jiuliang with an even more peculiar gaze.
How did she manage to climb back up after jumping off a cliff?
Mohan released her hand, turned around, and with long legs, he delivered a powerful kick to Li Hao.
Striking directly at the chest.
The vicious force, merciless and heavy, sent Li Hao flying backward, crashing to the ground where he lay without rising for a good while.
"Pfft—"
Blood sprayed in a vivid red parabola, staining the smooth marble floor a startling crimson.
The person sitting beside quickly backed away, avoiding it as if it were a venomous snake, fearing being splattered by the blood.
"Li Hao." Li Hong reflexively called out, for his favorite grandson was at stake. How could he remain indifferent?
Li Mochan’s gaze was icy as he looked towards Li Hao, his aura brimming with murderous intent.
With a slight parting of his thin lips, a chilling voice slipped out, "Wei Bei, tie him up and hang him from the cliff. Without my order, no one is to let him down."
For every injury his little wolf cub suffered, he would take his life as repayment.
Wei Bei nodded, "Yes."
Going up there most likely meant there was no hope of coming back alive.
"No, don’t..." Li Hao’s face turned even paler when he heard Li Mochan order him to be hung from the cliff. He scrambled back to Li Hong, rolling and crawling.
"Grandfather, save me, I don’t want to die. I’ll never dare do it again; please plead for me," he cried, grabbing onto Li Hong’s trouser leg, tears and snot running down his face.
Li Hong’s face showed his struggle, but in the end, he turned his head away without a word.
Li Mochan was furious at the moment. If he pleaded now, it was likely the whole family would be dragged into this. Instead of risking that, he had to sacrifice Li Hao.
Two tall and sturdy men walked in from outside, reaching over to lift Li Hao by the scruff.
Li Hao’s legs flailed in the air as he howled with all his might, "Grandfather, save me, please save me, I really know I was wrong..."
Li Hong closed his eyes, the pain evident as he tried not to watch.
As Li Hao was taken away, everyone in the room was too afraid to even breathe heavily.
"Mohan, you’ve punished Li Hao. Can we let the matter rest now?" The Li patriarch’s head was pounding from the commotion, and he wanted to put an end to the drama as soon as possible.
After all, they were all members of the Li family—making too much of a fuss would only make them the butt of jokes.
Ye Jiuliang took hold of Li Mochan’s hand, speaking up before he could.
"Letting it rest, I’m afraid, is impossible."
"Ye Jiuliang, what do you mean by that?" The Li patriarch’s expression became slightly indignant when he was contradicted.
"Even if it’s a life for a life, Li Hao has paid the price. Isn’t that enough?"
The young girl was simply too arrogant. If she were to enter the doors of the Li Family, there would likely be no peace for them.
Ye Jiuliang’s brows quirked up slightly as she reached out to pick up the document bag she had thrown on the table when she came in, her lips curling into a playful smile, "A life for a life, does he even qualify?"
Her steps light, she moved towards Li Hong, her voice cool and steady, "It wasn’t your command, but that Token was yours, those men were ill-taught by you, which is why they readily followed orders to assassinate me. I have no other merits, but I am quite ruthless. Keeping you around will only be a disaster in the long run. It’s better to remove the roots once and for all. Don’t you agree?"
Li Hong’s heart tightened as he looked into the woman’s calm and unfathomable eyes, unable to discern her thoughts.
"You..."
"This file can be considered a little surprise I’m giving your family; there’s no need to thank me. It’s the least I could do," Ye Jiuliang handed over the document, and Li Hong looked down at the thick file, his unease growing stronger.
The people around looked at the document bag in Ye Jiuliang’s hand, their eyes filled with curiosity.
After a long moment, Li Hong’s hands trembled as he took hold of the document bag, yet he dared not open it.
"Li Hong, open it," commanded the Li patriarch.
Li Hong looked at him, then turned to see the playful smile on Ye Jiuliang’s lips. With a hardened resolve, he tore open the seal on the document bag.
Pulling out the papers inside, Li Hong glanced over them briefly. His expression turned to shock as his frame staggered, almost unable to stand.
Catching sight of the onlookers craning their necks to see the document in his hand, Li Hong quickly stuffed the papers back into the document bag, clutching it tightly, his expression panicked.
