Chapter 281, Don’t show up in front of me ever again (third update of the night)

~7 min read 1,341 words

"No need." His tone was still cold and harsh, "Don’t show up in front of me again if it’s not necessary."

Chu Chen rested on the door handle and closed the door without any hesitation.

"Bang——"

The little hairs on her forehead were shaken and raised, Gu Xinuo stared at the closed door, his last words echoing in her ears over and over.

Her lips were slightly pursed, and for some reason, her nose felt inexplicably sour.

He didn’t want to see her again, did he?

This time he was really angry.

Separated by a single door, in the room, Chu Chen sat slumped in the corner, his complexion dark, his eyes filled with desolation and sadness.

If they couldn’t be together, he’d rather not see her at all.

He was scared of seeing her because he knew he wouldn’t be able to let go, and he wanted even more to kill Eric, the man who had taken her away.

But he couldn’t, because he was still afraid, afraid that she would hate him, afraid that all he would see in her eyes was cold hatred.

Gu Xinuo descended the stairs, disheartened. Just as she reached the bottom, the front door was pushed open from the outside.

Their eyes met.

Ye Jiuliang cracked a smile, closed the door, and waved at her.

"Yo, knew I was coming back and came down to greet me?"

"Ajiu." Seeing her, Gu Xinuo couldn’t help but tear up, her voice slightly choked.

Ye Jiuliang glanced upstairs, it seemed there was trouble again.

She took a few slow steps towards her and opened her arms.

"Come on, let Grandpa give you a hug."

Had it been before, Gu Xinuo would have been amused by her.

But now, she tried to smile but couldn’t anymore.

She rushed into her embrace as though seeking solace, "Ajiu."

Her voice was hoarse and filled with grievance. Ye Jiuliang’s eyes twinkled with mirth, and she patted her back.

"What’s the situation, tell Grandpa. Which bastard has bullied my little Nuonuo, hm?"

"Ajiu, he’s really angry with me. He told me not to appear in front of him again." Gu Xinuo thought of Chu Chen’s words, tears swirling in her eyes.

Ye Jiuliang frowned. What was Chu Chen up to?

"Did you mishear?"

That guy Chu Chen would die to have her by his side all the time, how could he possible tell her not to appear before him again.

Gu Xinuo shook her head and fell silent again.

Ye Jiuliang’s eyes shifted, the mirth fading, "He actually said such things? Then I’ll go punch him."

With that, she let go and pretended she was going up to beat someone.

Gu Xinuo quickly grabbed her, "Ajiu, don’t hit him; it’s not really his fault."

Chu Chen still had a fever, and if Ajiu laid a hand on him, he could only take the hits.

Amusement crept back into Ye Jiuliang’s eyes as she settled Gu Xinuo onto the sofa, "I’m just kidding. I’m not going to hit him. I brought you guys some food, you eat first. I’ll go check if his fever has gone down and drag him down to eat as well."

Upon hearing this, Gu Xinuo let go and nodded obediently.

Ye Jiuliang rolled up her sleeves leisurely and went upstairs.

Seeing the closed door of the room, she knocked casually.

"Achen, it’s me, open the door."

After waiting a minute and the door didn’t open, Ye Jiuliang was not patient enough to wait.

She threatened roughly, "Chu Chen, if you want a wife, open the door quick, or I’m taking her away."

In less than a second, the person inside finally stopped playing dead and opened the door to let her in.

His clothes were disheveled, his stubble was dark, and his eyes were bloodshot.

Was this the Chu Chen she knew?

Surprise crossed Ye Jiuliang’s face, and she couldn’t help but think of her own Li Mochan.

She reined in her thoughts and spoke with heartfelt concern, "How did you end up looking like this, you make Eric seem more handsome at the moment."

"Ye Jiuliang."

Now, just hearing the name "Eric" made Chu Chen want to kill someone.

Ye Jiuliang clicked his tongue and a smile appeared on his lips, "Why are you yelling at me? I even ditched my housemate Li Mochan to come help you, and you repay me with this attitude? I’m not satisfied."

Chu Chen’s expression turned gloomy, "How can you help me? She’s already agreed to marry Eric."

Oh, what could he do to compete now?

Ye Jiuliang rolled his eyes at him and kicked the door closed with his foot.

"Who told you Anuo agreed to marry Eric? Chu Chen, has your fever fried your brain?"

A glint of hopeful light ignited in Chu Chen’s eyes.

"What do you mean?"

Ye Jiuliang snorted and gave him a look of disdain, "That day, Anuo ran into Eric. It just so happened it was the day Eric was proposing to his girlfriend. Eric invited Anuo to attend their wedding, that’s all."

Judging without hearing the full story, the only silver lining is that it tore the paper screen between the two.

Chu Chen’s facial expression changed over and over again, one second it was as deep as a valley, but in an instant, Ye Jiuliang’s few words sent him back to heaven.

He grabbed Ye Jiuliang’s arm, his face showing eagerness, "Are you serious? Anuo isn’t the one marrying Eric?"

"Hand." Ye Jiuliang looked at the man, who was so excited he seemed ready to jump up, and glanced, half-smiling, at his hand.

"Li Mochan will get jealous."

Chu Chen sheepishly withdrew his hand, the corners of his lips almost stretched to the back of his head.

"I seem to recall someone just said he didn’t want my Anuo to appear in front of him anymore." Ye Jiuliang poured cold water with his comment.

The smile on Chu Chen’s face froze and he hastily moved toward the exit.

"Where are you going?" Ye Jiuliang grabbed him, exerting a gentle force on his wrist, pulling him back.

"I didn’t mean to say that sentence earlier; I’m going to explain it to her right now," Chu Chen conveyed, his face troubled. Had he known the truth, he would never have said those words.

Ye Jiuliang raised an eyebrow, "You explain and then what?"

Chu Chen was at a loss for words.

He ran his hands through his messy hair, nearly pulling his scalp off.

"So what should I do?"

"You should beg me," Ye Jiuliang said with a mischievous laugh.

Chu Chen’s gaze flashed to him, his eyes shining, "You have a way?"

Ye Jiuliang teased, "I do have a way, but it depends on if you cooperate or not."

Chu Chen immediately assured, "I’ll cooperate."

As long as he could chase after his wife, nothing else was an issue.

"Alright, but before that, just keep being this frosty, don’t talk to Anuo. Act like you’re drawing a line between you and her," Ye Jiuliang said.

"You only have this one chance, make it count."

"Then tell me your plan first," Chu Chen looked at her with suspicion in his eyes.

"What, afraid I’ll sell you out?" Ye Jiuliang chuckled lightly.

Chu Chen finally felt in the mood to banter, "Maybe."

Ye Jiuliang’s eyes twinkled with mischief, his words halting halfway, "I plan to introduce a girlfriend to you, arrange a blind date for you."

Chu Chen frowned, visibly resistant, "A blind date?"

"Enough, hurry up and clean yourself up, then head out to see Aqian. Don’t come back for now," Ye Jiuliang wasn’t going to explain.

Chu Chen was baffled, resolving in his heart to ask Ji Mingqian later.

Downstairs, Gu Xinuo was distracted and had little appetite, barely touching her meal.

Hearing footsteps, she immediately turned her head to look.

"Ajiu, how is he doing?"

Ye Jiuliang glanced at the almost untouched meal on the table and frowned, "Why haven’t you eaten?"
