Chapter 297. Master Jiu fell asleep in the car (first update)
The autumn wind suddenly picked up, stirring up a lake of shattered gold.
Just by looking at the style of the car, one could guess the caliber of the person inside.
Li Jingjie and several of the younger generation all drove sports cars.
Upon receiving the gatekeeper’s notice, the Li family patriarch personally came out to greet the guests.
Close behind him followed Li Shaohui and others.
Indeed, they put on quite a show.
When Ye Yan and the others saw the Li family patriarch, they all greeted him with the utmost respect.
The Li patriarch nodded slightly then turned and exchanged warm pleasantries with Master Ye.
"Grandfather, Jiuliang hasn’t come down yet," Ye Yan said, pretending to remind them casually after noticing that the car at the very end was motionless.
The atmosphere around them suddenly froze, and everyone instinctively fell silent.
Nowadays, nobody knows when "Ye Jiuliang" became a taboo name to be mentioned casually.
Master Ye turned to look at the black sedan, but couldn’t see anything through the windows.
The next second, the driver stepped out of the car and felt a wave of curious stares, adding more pressure to him.
"My lord, Miss Jiuliang... she has fallen asleep," he said tremulously, his face as bitter as a gourd.
Everyone in the Ye Family knew better than to provoke Jiuliang; he certainly didn’t have the courage to wake her.
"..."
The most feared thing is the sudden silence in the air.
People’s faces showed a mix of expressions.
Asleep?
What a joke.
On such an occasion today, how could Jiuliang have fallen asleep in the car?
Keeping his composure, Master Ye gave Ye Yu a look.
Ye Yu nodded, understanding his intent, and walked towards the car.
"I apologize for this, Elder Li, for causing you amusement. That girl Jiuliang just returned from abroad the day before yesterday, and she hasn’t readjusted to the time zone yet," Master Ye said, his voice warm as he helped Jiuliang save face.
Elder Li waved it off, the smile on his face slightly awkward, "It is typical of the young. No matter."
"Don’t move." A cold voice cut in abruptly, brooking no argument.
Everyone turned their heads and made way for the newcomer.
Seeing Li Mohan approaching, Ye Yu, whose hand was outstretched to open the car door, froze in mid-air.
Caught between a rock and a hard place, he felt awkward.
A chill swept over him as he withdrew his hand sheepishly and nodded at Li Mohan before stepping aside.
Li Mohan glanced at everyone and finally fixed his gaze on his father, "Father, we should continue our conversation in the living room. Guests have arrived; it’s not reasonable to keep everyone standing here."
At his words, the looks people gave Li Mohan took on a peculiar light.
Tsk.
So, Elder Li Fifth actually remembers the hospitality of ’guests first.’
Certainly a rare sight like a maiden’s first time being carried off in a bridal sedan chair.
At the end of the day, it’s all for the one sleeping in the car.
The corners of Elder Li’s mouth stiffened into a smile as his gaze darkened momentarily upon the sealed car window. He followed Li Mohan’s lead to smooth things over,
"Mohan is right, Master Ye, let’s go inside. Once we’re indoors, we can chat at our leisure."
Given the opportunity to save face, Master Ye naturally had no reason to refuse.
"Indeed, let’s talk inside."
With both patriarchs speaking, they led the way, and the others naturally followed.
No one wanted to linger and get into trouble with Li Mohan standing guard.
Still, there were those who were bold enough to hope for a scene, such as Li Jingjie’s group who deliberately slowed their pace.
Li Mohan paid them no mind and opened the car door, leaning in to look inside.
His gaze fell upon the woman sleeping sweetly against the car window, and a smile unconsciously surfaced in his eyes.
Even though it had been so noisy outside just now, his little wolf cub hadn’t been disturbed, obviously because she was truly exhausted.
The glaring sunlight suddenly shone in, causing Ye Jiuliang to squint her eyes as the man’s exquisite handsome face loomed larger before her. She reached out to him instinctively.
Li Mochan couldn’t help a chuckle, reaching out to lift her from the car.
"Tired?"
Blinded by the sudden sunlight, Ye Jiuliang felt a bit uncomfortable and buried her fluffy head into Li Mochan’s chest.
"It’s all your fault."
If he hadn’t kept her up last night, she wouldn’t be as tired as someone who hadn’t slept for days.
"Want to catch up on some sleep?" Li Mochan teased with an indulgent smile, kissing her forehead gently.
"I’ve already changed the sheets in my room."
"Not a chance, if I faint both elders out of anger, I might end up being pointed at by thousands." Ye Jiuliang joked about herself.
Li Mochan chuckled silently, not telling her that she had indeed angered the two elders quite a bit just now.
"Last time I came here, we weren’t together yet." Ye Jiuliang lifted her head from his embrace, resting her chin on his shoulder, her clear eyes surveying their surroundings.
Li Mochan hummed in affirmation.
"Li Mochan, was it too easy for you to whisk me away?" Ye Jiuliang laughed softly.
"Do you feel like agreeing to be with you was a bit hasty?"
"It’s too late for regrets now." Li Mochan weighed the person in his arms with a domineering tone.
In the distance, Li Jingjie and his group witnessed this scene with expressions difficult to define, their footsteps heavy as if lead-weighted, unable to move forward.
Ye Jiuliang smiled, suddenly sensing that something was amiss.
"Right, where are the others?"
She remembered the Ye Family’s cars were in front of hers when they arrived.
"They went to the living room." Li Mochan passed the topic, with no intention of bringing up what just happened.
Ye Jiuliang hopped out of his embrace and stretched lazily, "Got anything to eat?"
She had no appetite in the morning and had barely eaten anything before leaving, now her insides were rumbling.
Li Mochan hummed softly, "What do you want to eat?"
"Uncle Five, grandfather is calling for you." Li Jingqi walked over, his demeanor that of an obedient model student, not daring to act up in front of Li Mochan.
Li Mochan, concerned about finding food for his little wolf cub, slipped an arm around Ye Jiuliang and turned to leave.
"Mohan," Ye Jiuliang held him back, "let’s go inside first, we can look for food later."
Today was just a formality, to quietly have a meal and leave. There was no need for confrontation.
Reading the room, Li Jingqi quickly said, "Uncle Five, there is food in the living room."
If he didn’t get everyone into the living room, the old master wouldn’t give him a pleasant look.
Li Mochan glanced at him and walked toward the living room, leading Ye Jiuliang by the hand.
Most men smoked, and as they entered the living room, the air was tinged with a faint odor of tobacco.
Ye Jiuliang’s frown went nearly unnoticed.
As they both entered, the conversations in the living room gradually subsided.
The elder Ye beckoned to her, "Jiuliang, come here."
Ye Jiuliang lifted her eyes to look at Li Mochan, let go of his hand, and walked over.
All the sofas around were taken, and she had no intention of staying with them longer than necessary, pausing next to elder Ye.
"Grandfather," she called out in a light tone.
"Elder Li."
Everyone was secretly curious about Elder Li’s reaction.
After all, Li Hong was completely disowned from the Li Family just because of Ye Jiuliang.
To say that Elder Li didn’t harbor the slightest grudge in his heart was something they didn’t believe at all. Looking at how elder Ye had been frowning ever since Ye Jiuliang walked in.
