Resven marched at the head of his detachment, his jaw set in a grim, tight line.

After a long trek through the forest trails, they had finally reached House Osric once more.

Behind him, Gunner, Maeve, Doric, and the rest of his new five-person summon squad kept their shoulders locked tight around the garron horses. The beasts were pulling the three wagons full of heavy wooden crates. The group had hurried along, making quite a bit of time as they moved, to the point where the Garrons were practically wheezing.

The heavy iron-oak gates of the Osric encampment swung open with a dull groan. Telarin stood atop the nearest watchtower. He stood solemnly, his eyes sharp, tracking the treeline before giving Resven a brief, solemn nod.

Resven didn’t waste time on greetings. He led the unit straight to the main cabin, where Bramm was already waiting on his favorite chair, putty in hand. He smoked leisurely as he waited for his men to reach him.

Once they were meters away from the cabin, Bramm stood up and walked forward.

"My Lord," Resven saluted, with the traditional salute. With a sharp nod back to Doric, he walked forward, a small box in hand. With a careful movement, he opened the box to reveal the two vials of blood perfectly intact. "The vials are in good condition, my Lord."

"Mhmm," Bramm inspected the items with a careful eye, "You did well. You had a peaceful journey back, I presume?"

He questioned, glancing towards the group. There had been no notification that they had slain any beast, nor fought any enemies, and whilst the blood of Orange tier beasts wasn’t of particular interest to the great houses, smaller houses and thieves would do anything to have an item as valuable as they carried.

Resven stood, face solemn. "The journey was smooth, but leaving the city was problematic."

Bramm looked up, his eyes flashing with interest. "What happened?"

Placing the vials back in the box, he took them in hand and turned to face Resven.’Must have been quite a problem if he looks like that,’he noted, seeing Resven’s solemn expression.

Resven took a breath before he started recounting their difficulties over the days, eventually reaching the point when the battle began. "We were right at the lower gates when the top layer of the city blew. It wasn’t a common market riot or a local faction dispute. Figthing began on the top layer and the air turned to lead in a second. We could feel the Vitre shockwaves bleeding all the way down to the middle tiers and the main street—the sheer density of it was suffocating. I do not presume what level of energy, but based on the fact that it was the highest level where the ruling house presided, I have a few guesses..."

"At least Dark orange or even yellow then?" Bramm asked, his mind racing with a few guesses of his own,’Only warriors of that level would dare to fight in the open daylight where the ruling houses live.’

"Most probably an assassin aiming for the Lord of Morvayn’s head... we’ve been keeping an eye and ear out the last few times we went and the city was on high alert." Resven nodded and ventured his few guesses to Bramm.

"But they were caught..."

"Most likely intercepted by a Lord Warden of House Morvayn," Resven said, voice low.

"My guess would be that it would’ve been House Draken, they are the only house in the region that rivals House Morvayn and would be the only ones daring enough to try such a stunt. They were trying to take down the Morvayn lord while he was vulnerable." He continued, elaborating on his thoughts. Bramm stood, listening with a thoughtful expression. He stroked his beard slightly as he listened.

"The fallout was brutal. The upper palace stone liquefied from the shockwaves. We rushed to escape before the chaos spread, but guards scrambled to maintain order."

"Go on... what happened afterward?" His curiosity rose by the second as the man spoke, and Bramm urged him to continue speaking.

"They tried to lock us in," Resven said, his fingers twitching toward his belt. "The gatekeepers started turning the gears to drop the iron-oak grates. They wanted to seal the entire lower city off to keep the fight contained. We had to form a heavy shield wedge just to keep the stampeding townsfolk from crushing the cargo, but the guards drew iron on us. They ordered us to halt and stand down."

"So howdidyou escape the city?" Bramm asked, his eyes narrowing.

Resven looked up at Bramm, a cold light in his eyes. "Fortune favored us, or rather, the violence above did. Just as the guards blocked our path, a massive explosion rocked the mountain cove above. The sheer backlash didn’t just shatter the palace walls—it actually cracked a massive, ancient piece of the mountain peak itself right off the cliffside. A literal avalanche of shattered granite came roaring down into the main street to the gates."

"The whole city shook like an earthquake had erupted," He muttered. "The guards up on stopping us when they saw a piece of the mountain falling. With the mountain falling directly towards us, whatever calm the guards managed to take control off, exploded once more. All of us dived and ran for the nearest area outside of danger. The guards included, they had no time to worry about us and chose to run to the sides."

"We chose the best solution, since the guards had to flee, we took the chance to rush out of the city. Good thing the wagons were being pulled by the garrons, they saved us quite a lot of effort. Ten seconds longer and we would have been trapped in the city, blocked by the gates.

Bramm stood up, walking over to the edge of the porch, staring out at the ocean behind the cabin.
",1013,"2026-06-06T08:46:30.140Z",1,"novelbin.me","57dde863bf6f7e4ca23482e4232c85722994a5d0552030d29f33245107d8c905","the-lord-of-the-high-reach-chapter-52",null,57,"https://novelzhen.com/images/covers/the-lord-of-the-high-reach-cover.jpg"]
