Chapter 83: The Ruan Family's Destruction

~7 min read 1,327 words

Chi Nan Yi quietly entered the Ruan Family courtyard; Ruan Dong was huddled in the corner of the room, trembling.

Such a large man behaving like that was truly a strange sight to behold.

"Mother, could Big Brother really have gone simple?" Ruan Jing was puzzled: "Even if he'd been afflicted by evil, it shouldn't be to this extent! With his bruised and swollen face, it doesn't look like an evil affliction — more like he was beaten simple."

Beaten simple?

Zhao Huilan blinked: "Right, you're right! He was beaten simple! It must be the Chi Family who beat your Big Brother into this state! Tomorrow I'm going to find their house and have a proper word with them. Your Big Brother's gone simple, so he certainly can't take a wife — let that little tramp Chi Nan Yi marry over and serve our whole family. That little bitch, I'll make sure to teach her a good lesson."

"Mother, stop talking — hearing you say that makes my stomach hurt again." Ruan Jing rubbed his rumbling belly: "Mother, you're always saying you'll get Chi Nan Yi into our household, but you've never once succeeded."

"Tsk, you child, hasn't Mother never found the right opportunity either? Now that they've beaten your Big Brother simple, Mother will naturally go and have it out with them. This time we're in the right — the Chi Family is building a grand mansion, and it doesn't matter if Chi Nan Yi doesn't want to marry into our family. We'll all move into the Chi Family's place, and eat their rich food and drink their fine wine — how about that?" Zhao Huilan was spinning grand delusions, little knowing that Chi Nan Yi had heard every word crystal clear.

"Mother, let's not think so far ahead for now — let's heal Big Brother first!" Ruan Jing looked at the food on the table: "Mother, didn't you say you'd earned silver? Why are we still eating so plainly?"

"Tsk, what's your hurry? Even with silver, we can't spend it all now — we have to wait a bit!"

"Wait? Wait for what?"

"Wait for the Chi Family to all drop dead."

"Pfft… cough cough cough… drop dead?" Ruan Jing sprayed out a mouthful of rice: "Mother, what do you mean by that?"

Zhao Huilan took out a paper packet from Ruan Dong's embrace; when opened, it was empty, with only a little white powder remaining. Seeing this, Zhao Huilan's eyes filled with delight: "It's done! It's done!"

"Mother, what's done?"

Zhao Huilan pointed at the medicine packet in her hand: "Do you know what this is?"

Ruan Jing shook his head.

"This is poison."

"Poison?"

"Mother won't hide it from you anymore — didn't Mother tell you before that she'd found a way to earn silver? This is it." A vicious expression flashed across Zhao Huilan's face: "Sprinkle this into the Chi Family's water vat, and once they drink the water, they absolutely won't survive. The person who gave me the medicine packet said this powder is ground from heartbreak grass — once ingested, the liver and intestines are torn to shreds. Mother already had your Big Brother poison the Chi Family's water vat today. The packet being empty means it must have been done."

Ruan Jing's heart jolted, his voice trembling: "Mother, isn't this… isn't this… murder?"

"Hmph, who told them to make their fortune in secret without including us?" Zhao Huilan pulled out a silver ingot from her chest: "Twenty taels — this is twenty taels of silver! That person said, as long as we get the job done, they'll give us another twenty taels afterward."

Seeing such a large silver ingot, a glint of greed flashed through Ruan Jing's eyes.

"Mother, then what about Ruan Qin? If she also drank that water…"

"Hmph, if someone's determined to seek death, nothing can stop them. I originally thought of having your Big Brother bring that little tramp back — after all, the child she carries in her belly is the Chi Family's seed. As long as she lives, the Chi Family's things would naturally be handed over to her, and in time they'd be ours. But she refused! Since she refuses, she can go die with the Chi Family!"

Within the space, Chi Nan Yi clenched both fists, killing intent fully visible in her eyes.

Truly, human greed knows no bounds, like a snake trying to swallow an elephant. She had endured in every way before, and for her sister-in-law's sake had done nothing to them. Yet the Ruan Family — not only did they never give up their thieving intentions, coveting the Chi Family and coveting her — they even wanted her entire family's lives.

Since that was the case, she would make this family give up that notion once and for all.

A flash of silver light in her hand, and two Silver Needles appeared. Just then, a sound of footsteps reached her ears.

Chi Nan Yi put away the Silver Needles and slipped back into the space.

She saw a man wearing a bamboo hat on his head and a black mask on his face, his left arm hanging down with a long sleeve, his right hand holding a long sword.

"Him?"

The newcomer was none other than Mo Junheng's former personal bodyguard, Gao Han.

The one directing Zhao Huilan was Gao Han?

Gao Han knocked on the door; when Zhao Huilan opened it and saw the visitor, she welcomed him warmly.

"Good sir."

Gao Han walked into the room, his gaze sweeping the surroundings with great distaste.

"Good sir, what brings you here?" Zhao Huilan, a stark contrast to her usual sharp-tongued manner, spoke with warm attentiveness: "Please sit, please sit."

Gao Han paid her no attention, only saying flatly: "The task I had you do — how did it go?"

Zhao Huilan said with a smile: "Good sir, rest assured, it's done! The heartbreak powder has already been put in — the Chi Family is certain to die." Her eyes brimming with anticipation, she slowly extended her hand: "Good sir, might I have the remaining twenty taels of silver?"

"Twenty taels of silver?" Gao Han smiled, his right hand reaching into his inner garment.

Zhao Huilan thought he was going to take out the silver, but before the smile on her face could widen, two flashes of silver streaked past — a sharp dagger slashed across Zhao Huilan and Ruan Jing's necks, and blood gushed from the wounds on their throats.

Zhao Huilan and Ruan Jing stared with wide eyes and slowly toppled over, while Ruan Dong, huddled in the corner, rolled his eyes back at the sight and fell flat on his back — scared dead on the spot.

"Heh, trash." Gao Han sneered: "Still wanting a reward — pipe dreams."

Chi Nan Yi, watching from within the space as Gao Han struck so ruthlessly, knew in her heart — this person could not be spared.

Gao Han left the Ruan Family and headed back toward Changxi Town. Passing through a stretch of woods, he suddenly halted, his gaze scanning the surroundings vigilantly.

"Who's there? Come out!" His hand rested on the long sword at his waist, ready to strike at any moment.

Just as his nerves were stretched taut, a figure slowly appeared.

By now, the sky had gone completely dark. Moonlight spilled silver-white, illuminating Chi Nan Yi's exquisitely beautiful face, and the entire forest fell silent.

Gao Han looked at her, his brow furrowing: "It's you."

Chi Nan Yi smiled: "Indeed, Guard Gao — it's been a long time!"

"Why are you here?"

"Yes! Why would I appear here? Surely not because I got lost!" Chi Nan Yi spoke with easy laughter, her expression perfectly composed.

"You followed me." Gao Han's eyes turned fierce: "Speak! When did you start following me?"

"So eager to know?" The smile on Chi Nan Yi's face deepened: "Beg me!"
