Chapter 101: Start Teaching Breathing Techniques

~7 min read 1,256 words

On Sunday morning, Mu Yue went to the Southern Forest as usual, ready to start a new round of teaching.

But instead of immediately teaching the breathing technique, he first had Might Guy and Obito run their daily race.

Yesterday he used the Appraisal Technique to check Obito's progress with Shave—he was close to mastering it, and with a bit more effort today he should be able to pull it off.

"Today I'm making a small change to the rules: the winner's questions are added to the loser's total," Mu Yue said with a smile.

"Huh? Then the loser might have to do up to eighty questions." Obito was already starting to panic.

Under Mu Yue's new rule, if the winner got all questions waived and the loser failed to break through their limit, they would have to take on eighty questions.

He hadn't never won before, but he lost more than he won—with this rule change, the questions would be super-doubled.

Hearing Mu Yue's words, even Might Guy's forehead broke out in a thin sweat. He won more often, but that didn't mean he never lost.

"This is a special Sunday event. After today, it'll go back to the old rules," Mu Yue explained.

Obito and Might Guy both breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness it was only for one day—if it were like this from now on, the pressure would be too much.

Although they had once experienced days of facing over a hundred questions in a single fight, those tough times were already behind them; they had buried them deep in their memories and didn't want to touch them.

"Why do we have this special event today? Is it some kind of special day?" Obito asked in confusion.

"Because today marks my 111th day as a teacher," Mu Yue replied.

Even though it was a flimsy excuse, today really was his 111th day as a teacher, and also his 111th day since he had transmigrated into the Naruto world.

"Alright, get ready to start the race," Mu Yue said.

After quickly finishing their warm-up exercises, Obito and Might Guy stood at the starting point Mu Yue had designated.

"Go for it, Obito!" Rin Nohara, who was training nearby, cheered him on with a smile.

"I beat Guy in the sparring test, so there's no way I'll lose this race either." Obito flashed a confident smile.

"Eighty questions—and Rin is watching—I absolutely can't lose this time!" Obito thought to himself.

"Ready, set, go!"

Whoosh!

The moment Mu Yue finished speaking, Obito burst out with a surge of chakra, making a super start.

Under the pressure of eighty questions, Might Guy was also highly motivated, using Shave for his own super start.

Sensing the growing noise of footsteps, Obito felt increasingly anxious. Gritting his teeth, he used Shave again despite the fatigue in his leg muscles.

But when it came to willpower, Might Guy wasn't about to give up. Seeing Obito speed up, he mustered his strength and accelerated, rapidly chasing after Obito's back.

His physique was stronger than Obito's, and he had already mastered Shave at the beginner level, so as long as he got close to Obito, Obito would basically lose.

As they neared the finish line, the distance between Might Guy and Obito began to shrink.

Whoosh!

Seeing the finish line was close, Might Guy immediately entered sprint mode, his figure vanishing on the spot and covering a lot of ground in an instant.

Obito also began to sprint, using his still-incomplete Shave to charge toward the finish line.

The gap between them kept closing. Out of the corner of his eye, Obito could already see a fast-moving patch of green—it was Might Guy in his tight-fitting suit.

"This is bad!" Obito sensed trouble. He knew Might Guy must have improved a little again.

"I absolutely cannot lose!" Obito poured all his strength into his legs, running with all his might.

"Shave!"

Both of them used Shave at the same time, their bodies vanishing from their spots.

"Who won?" Rin Nohara only felt both of their figures blur, and then suddenly they both appeared at the finish line together.

"Obito wins. Guy, seventy questions," Mu Yue announced the result.

During that final sprint, Obito had fully mastered Shave, learning the three-stack technique, and won the race by taking advantage of being slightly closer.

"Huff, huff." Obito collapsed flat on the ground, gasping for air. His chest felt like it was on fire, and even his breathing was hot.

Though exhausted, Obito was delighted. This meant he had to do eighty fewer questions—equivalent to losing two fewer times—and he had won in front of Rin Nohara.

Thinking that Rin Nohara was present, Obito stood up shakily, even though his legs were exhausted.

"Obito, why don't you rest a little longer?" Rin Nohara asked with concern.

"It's nothing. It's just a short run, no big deal." Obito controlled his legs so they wouldn't tremble, pretending to be relaxed.

"So the distance was a bit short. Then tomorrow we'll double it." Mu Yue showed a look of sudden realization and smiled.

Obito:...

"Obito, you still have strength left! Then let's run together again. I feel I still have room for improvement." Might Guy temporarily suppressed his fear of the test questions and said with enthusiasm.

Setting aside the issue of doing the test, Might Guy really enjoyed this kind of competition. Even though he lost just now, he did improve.

Obito momentarily didn't know whether Might Guy was undercutting him or truly wanted to run with him again.

"Actually, I was using a literary writing technique just now. You misunderstood me." Obito tried to bluff his way out.

Rin Nohara struck again, poking Obito's thigh with her finger. Obito's thigh couldn't help trembling.

"Obito, don't push yourself. You're already shaking like this. If we double the distance, won't you be so exhausted that you can't get up?" Rin Nohara sighed.

Obito felt a wave of mental exhaustion, with a thought of "let everything be destroyed, I'm tired."

He just wanted to show off a little in front of Rin Nohara. Why was it so hard?

"Alright, take a rest and then prepare to learn a new ninjutsu. This time I'm going to teach you an extremely difficult secret technique. You must learn it seriously." Mu Yue spoke.

"An extremely difficult secret technique? Then it must be very powerful." Obito suddenly perked up—generally, the harder the ninjutsu, the stronger it is.

"Yes, it's very hard to learn, but if you master it, it can greatly enhance your strength." Mu Yue nodded.

After the Breathing Technique was localized, it had tremendous power, and at the same time its difficulty was maxed out. According to the classification in Naruto, his two existing Breathing Techniques were both S-rank forbidden techniques.

Especially Rock Breathing—the hardest of the hard, almost like the Eight Gates. You can only grit your teeth and practice relentlessly.

"Teacher, do I learn it too? I'm a bit slow at learning ninjutsu." Might Guy scratched his head and asked.

His talent for ninjutsu was somewhat poor; even learning the Three Basic Jutsu was a struggle.

"You have to learn, but you'll learn something different from them. In short, trust that you can learn it." Mu Yue replied.

After the two of them had rested, Mu Yue called Shisui over and prepared to start teaching the Breathing Technique.

I've set up a reader group. Everyone can join. Usually I lurk in the group looking for inspiration.
