Chapter 104: Chidori
"Anyone among you who has learned the Body Flicker Technique, step forward." Muyue said to the members of Group A.
Shisui, Obito, Might Guy, Asuma, and others who had already learned the Body Flicker Technique stepped out of the line as Muyue instructed.
"For the final two weeks, aside from basic training, the main focus will be on training the Body Flicker Technique." Muyue outlined the upcoming training schedule.
He spoke to the students who had already mastered the technique:
"Those of you who have already learned it can decide your own training for this portion of time—you may either continue learning with me or practice according to your own ideas."
The Body Flicker Technique he intended to teach was naturally not the Soru, but rather the most widespread Body Flicker Technique in Konoha—the D-rank taijutsu he had initially taught Shisui.
This Body Flicker Technique held the same status in Konoha as the Three Basic Techniques did in the Ninja Academy; it was a simple but practical taijutsu.
Compared to those nature-altered Body Flicker Techniques—like the Water Body Flicker or Lightning Body Flicker—this D-rank taijutsu's advantages were its low requirements and ease of learning, making it very suitable for genin and chunin, and even some jonin still used it due to its exceptional cost-effectiveness.
Muyue's earlier chakra control training and physical conditioning exercises for the students were also preparation for learning the Body Flicker Technique.
Using the Body Flicker Technique primarily involves concentrating chakra on the soles of the feet and legs, using chakra to strengthen the body and achieve high-speed movement.
There are two key points: first, the body must be able to withstand the stimulation of chakra; second, the amount of chakra used must be well controlled.
If the body cannot endure the high-speed movement induced by chakra stimulation, it will cause damage to the body, and in battle, the body will quickly tire and speed will be impaired.
The soles of the feet are the hardest place to concentrate chakra; simply gathering chakra there is difficult, let alone controlling the amount output. Using too much chakra not only wastes chakra but also affects the execution of the technique.
"So that's why they've all mastered the Body Flicker Technique—no wonder their speed suddenly changed during combat," Genma Shiranui thought as he watched those stepping forward.
The ones who had just stepped out were mostly those with good results in the practical test, either graduated genin or strong current students.
"I need to learn this Body Flicker Technique quickly, otherwise I definitely won't get good results in the final practical test," Ebisu said to himself.
Because of the previous week's incident, he had given up hope on his academy life and turned his focus to studying the path of a future ninja.
So he didn't want to be defeated in the first round again when the Third Hokage came to watch the exams; at least he had to last two rounds.
After a brief explanation, Muyue began teaching the students.
He first demonstrated the Body Flicker Technique several times, then had the students practice as he had just instructed, while Muyue guided them on the side.
When the students made mistakes during practice, he would point them out and help correct them.
Muyue didn't focus solely on Group A; he generally taught the three groups in order A, B, C, with his main body rotating through each, leaving shadow clones to assist in each group.
If the main body stayed with one group, the other groups wouldn't receive the benefit of his skill instruction.
Next, Muyue went to Group B.
Group B's training progress lagged one level behind Group A; after three weeks, some were still doing chakra control training.
But this was also expected by Muyue; his requirement for Group B was simply to complete chakra control training, strengthen taijutsu, and improve their proficiency in the Three Basic Techniques.
If they achieved these goals, they would actually be more qualified than many graduated genin.
Some graduated genin hadn't even mastered tree climbing, only knew the Three Basic Techniques at a basic level, and had mediocre taijutsu.
Completing chakra control training not only unlocked the two skills of tree climbing and water walking but also laid the foundation for learning more ninjutsu in the future. Taijutsu can never be too strong, and mastering the Three Basic Techniques can produce unexpected effects in battle.
Those who hadn't completed chakra control training still focused on improving chakra control, while those who had completed it focused on practicing taijutsu and the Three Basic Techniques, along with various physical conditioning exercises.
With high proficiency in the Three Basic Techniques combined with the instructor's skills, the students' proficiency in the Three Basic Techniques grew quickly. Muyue noticed that some students had over three hundred proficiency points in the Clone Technique at the introductory level.
After teaching Group B the Three Basic Techniques for a while, Muyue went to Group C.
Group C was the slowest group, having only recently started chakra control training.
This was also related to Group C's composition: its students were either from lower grades or fourth-year students with average grades.
These students either had short training time, lacked a solid foundation due to previous neglect, or simply had poorer talent, so their progress was much slower.
It wasn't that Muyue didn't want to teach more; he could only teach this way. Forcing Group C to keep up with Groups A and B would only do more harm than good.
Moreover, after three weeks of study, some students had already been promoted to Group B.
"The secret to tree climbing is mainly finding that subtle amount of chakra that allows you to stick to the tree, and then maintaining it unchanged." Muyue walked up a large tree as if on flat ground, explaining a technique he had repeated countless times.
Although the words were the same, when you practice to different stages, hearing the same phrase brings different insights.
"Hehe, Teacher Muyue, I think I've completed the training," Anko said as she ran quickly on the tree, running vertically and then horizontally.
"Mm, you've completed the tree-climbing training. Next, practice the Substitution Technique and Transformation Technique a bit. In the afternoon we'll start water-walking practice." Muyue nodded.
Azuki had good ninja talent; her learning speed was among the fastest of the three groups' students. Keep in mind that Azuki had only been training for one semester, and finishing the tree-climbing training so quickly while balancing other exercises was quite impressive.
"Nice!" Having earned Muyue's approval, Azuki began bouncing and hopping on the tree.
Having successfully completed the training, Azuki didn't forget her two good buddies. She ran straight over to Kagetsu Izumo and Hagane Kotetsu, who were still probing the big tree, and started giving them pointers.
"Don't be afraid of falling. Gather chakra on the soles of your feet, close your eyes, and just charge straight ahead." Azuki gave the advice with a serious face.
The corner of Hagane Kotetsu's mouth twitched. If he really trained according to Azuki's method, he'd end up needing someone to feed him every meal for the rest of his life—he'd break his legs running forward with his eyes closed.
"Teacher Muyue personally commended me for completing the training, so don't be ungrateful," Azuki said with a grin, taking sweet revenge for the two pranksters who had tricked her into skipping review before.
"Alas, that we two brothers should be reduced to this," Kagetsu Izumo said to Hagane Kotetsu with a look of grief.
"Damn it! If there were written exams, that little thief Azuki wouldn't dare be so arrogant!" Hagane Kotetsu lamented that the special training had no theoretical tests; otherwise, he wouldn't be unable to refute Azuki's taunts.
Spurred on by Azuki, Hagane Kotetsu and Kagetsu Izumo trained even harder.
Muyue kept moving among the three groups like this until class ended.
【Completed one large-class lesson】
【Grade: A】
【Rewards obtained: Wind Release: Gale Palm, Lightning Release: Chidori】
Looking at the system's reward, memories about Chidori surfaced in Muyue's mind.
Naruto had all kinds of Rasengan, and Sasuke also had various Chidori. This was a jutsu with considerable room for development as well.
A bit of writer's block; one chapter posted first. Still writing 10k words today.
