Chapter 106: Might Guy Strikes Hard
Five days later, Might Guy still couldn't find that so-called feeling.
During practice on Wednesday, Might Guy, Shisui, and Obito gathered together to discuss the breathing technique training.
"Guy, you can also imagine the feeling of eating ramen, that hot air going into your stomach." Obito tried to pass his successful experience on to Might Guy.
"Guy, just use Obito's words as a reference, but still stick to what Muyue-sensei taught. Even though both are breathing techniques, the differences should still be huge." Shisui spoke up.
If the two breathing techniques were similar, Muyue would have just had them learn one directly; there would be no need to go through the trouble of training separately.
"Mm, Muyue-sensei said my progress is normal for now. Rock Breathing is harder than the breathing technique you two are practicing." Might Guy nodded in reply.
Actually, his mindset was pretty good; only ten days had passed.
When Might Guy was learning the Clone Technique, he couldn't even produce a single clone that looked exactly like the original and could move until near the end of his second year.
That was almost three years, and he never said he'd completely give up and stop learning. Ten days was nothing.
Even if he hadn't learned it in a thousand days, as long as Muyue didn't tell him to train something else, he would keep training like this. He believed that persistent effort would definitely succeed.
Because he was the genius of hard work acknowledged by Muyue!
"Hehe, then you'd better work hard, Guy. During the practical exam three days from now, I won't go easy on you just because your breathing technique is a bit harder." Obito snickered.
By now it was close to the end of the summer intensive training; training through Friday would finish it, and on Saturday there would be one final practical test.
Even a breathing technique you haven't fully mastered yet could still boost your strength. With a breathing technique lead, Might Guy definitely wouldn't be a match for him.
No need for the Corner-Clone Technique tactic; he'd win directly with raw strength.
"Haha, youth is all about going all out in a fight!" Might Guy flashed his bright white teeth and gave Obito a thumbs-up.
If Obito held back, Might Guy wouldn't be happy about it. He believed that fighting with full effort was what youth was all about.
After practice finished in the afternoon, Might Guy returned home.
Seeing Might Guy drenched in sweat, Might Dai laughed heartily and said, "Guy, you've been training hard and getting stronger again today!"
"Wait at home for a bit; I'll go buy some meat and cook for you. You're in your growth spurt, so you can't skimp on meat."
"Just buy some cheap vegetables, okay? Our family money shouldn't be much left." Might Guy couldn't help saying.
Might Dai was only a genin, no one was willing to team up with him, and D-rank missions weren't always available; he simply couldn't earn much money.
Although Might Guy didn't know the specifics of his father's work, he knew their family's financial situation was tight.
"That's not something you need to worry about, Guy. You just need to focus on your training." Might Dai gave Might Guy a thumbs-up and smiled.
With that, Might Dai went out to buy groceries.
Might Guy thought for a moment, then followed him.
If they really didn't have enough money, he would step in and persuade Might Dai to buy cheaper vegetables.
Might Guy followed Might Dai all the way to the market.
At the market, Might Dai headed straight for the meat stall.
"Boss, how much per pound for the meat?" Might Dai asked.
The butcher stood up, glanced at Might Dai, and replied, "A hundred ryō a pound."
Then the butcher picked up his knife and asked, "How many pounds?"
Might Dai didn't say how much he wanted to buy; instead, he bargained, "Boss, it's almost evening. Your meat isn't fresh anymore. A hundred ryō is way too expensive."
"Well, I'll knock it down a bit for you—ninety-seven ryō a pound." The butcher thought for a moment and said.
"Only three ryō off is too little. I'll go check out other shops then." Might Dai made as if to leave.
"Alright, alright, I'll knock it down a bit more—ninety-three ryō a pound, okay?" The butcher quickly stopped him and said.
"Eighty ryō a pound." Might Dai shook his head and said.
"A discount of twenty ryō all at once? That's way too harsh of a cut." The butcher put on an unwilling expression.
Might Dai immediately turned around and made as if to leave again.
"Fine, fine, eighty ryō a pound it is. Can't go any cheaper, or I'll be losing money." The butcher stopped him once again and said.
"Alright, give me forty taels of meat." Might Duy said with a victorious smile.
"Still only forty taels?" The butcher's chopping motion paused.
"I've never seen a ninja as stingy and good at bargaining as you." The butcher couldn't help complaining. Ninjas are generally more physically active than ordinary people, so they eat more; usually they buy at least a few jin.
"Thanks for the compliment!" Might Duy gave the butcher a thumbs up and laughed.
"An eternal Genin is an eternal Genin. Buying meat takes so much time and still only forty taels." Two ninja passing by saw this and said with contempt.
"A ninja like him, no one would be willing to entrust him with a mission, right?" One of them, a tall, thin ninja, laughed.
"Not good at ninjutsu, taijutsu, or genjutsu, and on top of that, his behavior is so weird. If I were a client, I wouldn't entrust this kind of person with a mission either." The other, plumper ninja nodded.
Faced with the two's disdain, Might Duy just smiled and gave them a thumbs up, then headed home. He still needed to go home to cook for his son.
Might Duy didn't care, but Might Guy, who had been hiding all along, was already getting angry.
He remembered three years ago, when Might Duy was also mocked like this on the street with him. That time, an angry Might Guy followed them to avenge his father, but his strength wasn't enough and he got beaten up instead. It was Kakashi who happened to pass by and saved him.
Facing such a situation again, Might Guy didn't know if he could defeat those two full-fledged ninja, nor did he know if Kakashi would appear again, but he knew he absolutely had to act.
Because the forty taels of meat that Might Duy bought, Might Duy would absolutely not eat a single bite himself and would let Might Guy eat it all.
How could Might Guy tolerate others despising and insulting the father who raised him like that?
Might Guy followed the two ninja who had mocked Might Duy out of the market and onto a street.
"Three sentences." Might Guy said coldly to the two ninja.
The tall, thin ninja turned back in confusion. Seeing Might Guy wearing the same tight suit as Might Duy, he said:
"Kid, what 'three sentences'? You two really are father and son, both equally weird."
"This kid seems to be in ninja school, and looks like a dead last." The slightly plump ninja laughed.
"Isn't that a perfect match? An eternal Genin and a dead last son." The two burst into laughter.
"I made a rule for myself: if someone insults my father, I must return five punches. Just now you added two more sentences, now it's five sentences." Might Guy held up five fingers.
"Kid, while I'm in a good mood, get lost. One sentence equals five punches? Do you have that kind of strength?" The tall, thin ninja said with disdain.
A brat who hasn't even graduated dared to talk big to them, full-fledged ninja.
Might Guy chose to answer with his feet.
It wasn't forced to attract hate; similar things happened in the original story.
