Chapter 118: Pilot of Large Lectures

~7 min read 1,272 words

"Good morning, Teacher Muyue."

"Mm, good morning to you too, Teacher Kubo."

"Teacher Muyue, have you had breakfast? After the meeting, want to grab a meal together?"

"Already ate, thanks."

In the morning, perhaps because news of Muyue's promotion to Special Jōnin had already spread among the faculty, noticeably more people greeted him.

Fortunately, Muyue's memory was excellent now—he could basically remember the names of everyone he had interacted with, so he handled it all with ease.

The first meeting of the new semester was a general faculty meeting, held in the tiered classroom.

However, the Third Hokage didn't attend this time; the head of the Teacher's Division was in charge.

"A new semester begins. I hope everyone will continue to work hard in teaching this term, striving to cultivate excellent ninjas for the village," said the head of the Teacher's Division.

The Teacher's Division head was clearly a rather ordinary leader; as soon as he started speaking, Muyue was reminded of the speeches given by school leaders back in his old days—whether they were useful was debatable, but they were certainly boring.

The first general meeting didn't have much substantive content—basically it just brought up last semester's excellent teacher cases for everyone to learn from, and any major position changes were also announced.

"Teacher Muyue will serve as the grade director for the first year, responsible for the teaching arrangements of the first grade," the Teacher's Division head said with a beaming smile as he announced Muyue's position assignment.

"Teacher Muyue is an excellent teacher at our Ninja Academy. During the holiday, he spared no effort in training the students—he's a role model for everyone to learn from."

Muyue stood up and responded briefly.

The teachers applauded warmly; no one was surprised by this.

Aside from the Third Hokage as the nominal principal, Muyue was now one of only three jōnin at the Ninja Academy, and he had earned the promotion to Special Jōnin through outstanding teaching ability—being promoted was only natural.

"Jōnin Muyue, congratulations on the promotion," Kimura Sugito joked.

"Yeah, Jōnin Muyue, promoted from regular teacher to grade director in just one semester—truly enviable," Iketani Isamu said with a smile, following up.

Ueda Aya also joined in.

They were all in the same small office, with pretty good relationships—at least on the surface.

"Just call me Muyue like before. Having 'jōnin' in front of my name feels weird, and besides, I'm not a regular jōnin, just a Special Jōnin," Muyue said with a gentle smile.

"A Special Jōnin is still a jōnin, but honestly, Muyue does roll off the tongue better," Iketani Isamu chuckled.

"Teacher Muyue, a promotion and raise definitely call for a celebration. Let's hit an izakaya tonight—I'm treating," Iketani Isamu invited. He still had a good chunk of the excellent teacher bonus left, so he was feeling generous.

"I'm in too," Kimura Sugito said, slinging an arm around Iketani Isamu's shoulder.

"You can come, but you're paying for yourself."

"Muyue gets treated, and I have to pay for myself?" Kimura Sugito immediately put him in a headlock.

"Alright, alright, I'll treat you too, okay?" Remembering that Kimura Sugito had once lent him money to tide him over, Iketani Isamu decided to cover him as well.

"What about me?" Ueda Aya asked.

Then Ueda Aya put on a syrupy voice and called Iketani Isamu in a tone similar to "big bro," scaring goosebumps all over him. He quickly declared that everyone was included.

Muyue smiled and nodded.

He didn't mind the occasional casual gathering with colleagues he got along with, but Muyue's original body was very busy, so he usually sent a Shadow Clone instead; with Iketani Isamu's level of strength, they couldn't tell the difference.

Muyue felt like no one else had it quite like him—while his clones suffered across countless worlds, his situation was completely different. His original body worked hard teaching students, while his clone went out drinking and dining.

But there was no helping it: the clone didn't have the effect of the teaching skill. For the students to grow stronger as soon as possible, he made every effort to teach with his original body, so the students could benefit from the blessing of the skill.

In the afternoon, Muyue was in yet another meeting, but this one wasn't a general assembly—it was a small meeting. Only the grade directors from each grade and the academic dean attended, held in the conference room.

The academic dean was the head of the Teacher's Division.

This meeting had a lot of substantive content; basically, it was to decide the teaching arrangements for the semester.

"Dean Shimono, I have an idea that could ease the teaching pressure on the teachers," Muyue began.

Everyone turned to look at Muyue. Although he was a newcomer, no one dared to underestimate him—after all, he was a teacher valued by the Third Hokage.

Shimono Hisanobu smiled and nodded, saying, "The teaching pressure on the teachers is indeed quite heavy right now, with the curriculum packed full. What method does Teacher Muyue have in mind?"

"Integrate the courses and conduct large-class instruction," Muyue said.

"Schedule two or more classes with the same course at the same time, gather them together and have one teacher teach. Originally three classes would need three teachers, but with large-group teaching, only one teacher is needed."

The teachers in the meeting room all showed thoughtful expressions, feeling that Mu Yue's idea was indeed good and very useful in alleviating teacher pressure.

"Will this affect the quality of the students' learning?" Shimono Hisanobu said after thinking for a moment.

It sounds good, but can one teacher handle that many students?

Even if the teacher's pressure increases, the quality of teaching for the students must not be affected.

"I already tried large-group teaching during the summer intensive training. The results were fairly good, and the students all made decent progress," Mu Yue explained with a smile.

Two grade directors present had gone with the Third Hokage to observe.

"Indeed, I recall Teacher Mu Yue divided them into three groups for teaching," a grade teacher spoke up.

"Yes, a total of 359 people. I divided them into three groups based on their learning progress for teaching," Mu Yue replied.

"Actually, we could first carry out a pilot program, for example, only in the first year, and first experiment with it in theory classes," Mu Yue said.

He had already prepared the relevant arguments and rehearsed various scenarios; so far, everything was within his expectations.

"Only in the first year, and only theory classes..." Shimono Hisanobu thought for a while and felt it was feasible.

The first-year students were far from graduation, so messing around for one semester wouldn't matter much. Moreover, even if the theory classes fell short, it would be acceptable as long as practical combat didn't decline.

"Then Teacher Mu Yue, you will be in charge of this matter," Shimono Hisanobu finally nodded in approval.

"Yes, I will do my best," Mu Yue smiled and nodded.

Everything was proceeding as he had anticipated.

Next, he just needed to arrange more large classes for himself, improve the strength of Class 1 of the first year to gain a wave of improvement rewards, and combine that with Obito's training mission to get first place. Soon his strength would see another small increase.

…

On the other side, Danzo was notified by the Anbu to go to the Hokage's office.

Danzo didn't think much of it. As a high-ranking figure in Konoha holding an important position, it was normal for the Third Hokage to want to discuss something with him.
