Chapter 152: Preparations Before the Big Explosion
"Kai, is it convenient at your place today? I'd like to visit your home for a home visit." After finishing training, Mu Yue said to Might Guy.
"Ah, what home visit?" Might Guy scratched his head, somewhat puzzled.
The ninja academy had no habit of holding parent-teacher conferences, nor did it have home visits, so Might Guy didn't quite understand Mu Yue's meaning.
"You can think of it as me coming over to your house as a guest later, since this is the first time I've met someone besides myself who practices the Eight Gates," Mu Yue said with a smile.
"Then no problem, it's convenient." Might Guy nodded happily in reply.
Might Guy naturally welcomed Mu Yue coming to his house as a guest, after all, Mu Yue had helped him so much, and Might Guy was truly grateful to Mu Yue.
Being the top of his grade at the ninja academy or defeating the ninja who spoke ill of his father—these achievements were inseparable from Mu Yue's careful guidance. It could be said that without Mu Yue, he wouldn't have his current record.
"Then sensei, let me run back first and tell my dad so he can prepare more food," Might Guy said after thinking for a moment.
Might Duy's cooking time was irregular; sometimes the meal was ready by the time Might Guy got home, other times it hadn't even started.
"It's fine, let's go back together. I can buy some groceries along the way," Mu Yue said warmly.
Although Mu Yue originally had no intention of eating, since Might Guy had brought it up, Mu Yue decided not to refuse Might Guy's kindness. Eating together would also make it easier to carry out his plans later.
"Mu Yue sensei, since you're coming as a guest, how can we trouble you to buy groceries?" Might Guy shook his head, feeling it was inappropriate.
"Just think of it as your teacher being a picky eater," Mu Yue said with a chuckle, patting Might Guy on the head.
Might Guy still felt it wasn't right, but he couldn't argue with Mu Yue and was eventually convinced.
In the end, Might Guy led the way, bringing Mu Yue to his house, and on the way they bought a little food at the nearest market.
"I'm home," Might Guy said as he pushed open the door.
"Kai, welcome home. Did you train hard with youthful passion today?" Might Duy replied with enthusiasm while washing vegetables.
"Of course, today was another day of youthful fervor," Might Guy answered instinctively.
When he remembered that Mu Yue had come with him, Might Guy quickly added:
"Dad, stop what you're doing for now. We have a guest."
"Oh, a guest?" Might Duy stopped and walked toward the door.
"Dad, this is Mu Yue sensei, a teacher at the ninja academy. He teaches really well. Because of his outstanding teaching ability, he's already been promoted to special jonin," Might Guy introduced Mu Yue.
Due to Mu Yue's earlier request, Might Guy didn't reveal too much information, only stating what everyone already knew.
"A special jonin, huh? He must be a quite outstanding ninja then." Might Duy flashed his white teeth and gave a thumbs up.
"Hello, senior Dai." Mu Yue said with a smile. Might Guy had briefly introduced Might Duy to him on the way.
Might Duy's impression of Mu Yue immediately went up. Although he was quite a bit older than Mu Yue, as a special jonin Mu Yue didn't need to address a mere genin as "senior."
"Dad, this is the food Mu Yue sensei bought on the way here," Might Guy said, handing the groceries to Might Duy.
"Why make our guest buy groceries?" Might Duy felt it was improper.
"Haha, I saw a sale at the shop on the way and couldn't control myself. If it caused you any trouble, I'm sorry," Mu Yue said with an apologetic expression.
"If it was on sale, there's no helping it. When you see items on sale, anyone can't help but be tempted." Might Duy rubbed his chin, showing an understanding look.
Might Guy scratched his head. He hadn't been with Mu Yue when they bought the food, so he didn't know if it was really on sale or if Mu Yue had said that just so Might Duy would feel comfortable accepting it.
Next, Mu Yue didn't insist on helping with cooking or washing vegetables. A guest being too enthusiastic wasn't good either; moderation was key.
During the meal, Mu Yue started a conversation, saying with a smile:
"Kai works very hard at school. Although his foundation was poor at the start, from the first semester of fourth grade he gradually improved. Now in fourth grade he basically only has one rival."
"This is youth!" Might Duy hugged Might Guy and shouted with tears, proud of Might Guy.
Although his grades weren't good at first, Might Guy never gave up trying. Might Duy, watching his son slowly rise from the bottom to the top, was truly moved.
"Dad, we're still eating," Might Guy reminded him.
"Eat more. A burning youth also needs energy to support it." Might Duy let go and encouraged him.
"Senior Dai, could I see your Eight Gates? I also practice that forbidden technique," Mu Yue said after the meal.
"Mu Yue sensei, how did you know? And you actually practice that forbidden technique too?" Might Duy said in surprise.
"Dad, I was the one who told Teacher Muyue," Might Kai said.
"Besides attending my classes at the Ninja Academy, Kai is actually also my disciple. So he once told me about learning the Eight Gates," Muyue said simply.
Revealing the master-disciple relationship with Might Kai to Might Duy was the result of Muyue's careful consideration.
First, Might Duy was a very reliable and low-key person. Even though he mastered a forbidden technique like the Eight Gates, he still honestly remained a perpetual Genin. Revealing this relationship to Might Duy would not risk it being leaked.
Second, revealing this relationship could increase Might Duy's goodwill, making it easier to proceed with the next phase of the plan to raise Might Kai's trust level.
"Teacher Muyue, no..." Might Kai was a bit surprised. He was just thinking of helping Muyue explain, not expecting Muyue to actually tell something that he had forbidden.
Muyue strictly forbade his disciples from revealing their relationship.
"It's fine, after all, he is Kai's father," Muyue explained gently.
Might Kai felt Muyue's trust and thought to himself that he must remind his father not to tell anyone about this.
"Kai's teacher, I see." Might Duy finally understood some things that had puzzled him before.
Might Duy knew very well what his son's strength was. In the first semester of the fourth grade, Might Kai's strength suddenly skyrocketed.
Since Might Kai hadn't told him, Might Duy assumed it was the result of Kai's accumulated efforts finally paying off. But if there was a teacher instructing him, that made much more sense.
"I'm truly grateful. Thank you for your trouble, Teacher Muyue!" Might Duy bowed solemnly to Muyue.
He felt some guilt toward Might Kai. As a father, the only thing he could teach Might Kai was the extremely dangerous forbidden technique, the Eight Gates. He couldn't teach any other ninjutsu or taijutsu, because he didn't know them himself.
I'm stuck writing today. There will be one more chapter later and that's it.
