Chapter 220: Power of the Two-Tomoe Sharingan
"What do you say? Dare to have a match with me?" Obito said provocatively.
"Do you think I, the one who always wins, would fear a challenge from a loser?" Kakashi couldn't help but retort.
Though he wasn't confident in the fight, seeing Obito so arrogant made Kakashi feel irritated.
"That's all in the past. I'm the stronger one now." Obito said confidently, arms crossed.
Having awakened the two-tomoe Sharingan and improved his Flame Breathing, this mission had brought him too much progress. Not just Kakashi—even Shisui, he felt confident taking on.
"Say that after you actually beat me." Kakashi said flatly.
Seeing the tension between them growing, Muyue called all the disciples to watch while acting as referee.
"A little competition now and then isn't bad either." Muyue said with a chuckle, quite optimistic about Obito this time.
Now Obito not only surpassed Kakashi on paper but had also performed well in the fight against the Cloud jonin; he was no longer the rookie he once was.
Obito and Kakashi stood facing each other, forming the opposing seals.
"Obito, Kakashi, do your best!" Rin waved her little fist, cheering for both of them.
Hearing Rin's words, Obito thought that this time he would definitely beat Kakashi soundly and show Rin his true strength.
"Fight, begin!" Muyue announced quickly.
Bang!
The moment Muyue finished speaking, Obito and Kakashi both threw punches, their fists meeting.
"Kakashi, your punch is too weak." Obito laughed, then quickly changed his breathing rhythm, entering Flame Breathing and pushing Kakashi back.
Kakashi's expression didn't change. Using Obito's force and the nearby big tree, he leaped and struck Obito with a fist.
Their taijutsu styles were quite different. Obito's moves were broad and forceful, relying on raw power, while Kakashi fought more with technique.
The fight was intense, with constant clashes, but it remained an even match.
"This is what youth should be!" The sheer impact of fists against flesh made Might Guy's blood boil; he wished he could replace Obito and fight Kakashi.
Seeing Guy eager to jump in, Muyue held up two fingers and waved them in front of Guy's eyes.
"Youth also needs proper rest." Guy immediately remembered he was still recovering, with strenuous exercise forbidden.
"Flame Breathing: Total Concentration Breathing!"
After some probing attacks, Obito went all out, entering a state of intense concentration, drawing in large amounts of oxygen from the air to strengthen himself.
Using Total Concentration Breathing, Obito's physical abilities instantly surged—both speed and power increased considerably—and he quickly overwhelmed Kakashi.
"Lightning Breathing!"
Kakashi also entered Lightning Breathing state. Though it didn't boost him as much as Obito, it still provided some enhancement.
Shink!
Kakashi swiftly drew his White Light Shortsword and slashed at Obito with incredible speed.
With a whoosh, Obito used Shunpo to sidestep and dodge.
Although he had greater strength, he couldn't take Kakashi's blade with his bare flesh.
After retreating, Obito immediately began forming hand signs, then quickly took a large number of shuriken from his ninja tool pouch and launched them at Kakashi. Flame Breathing's greatest strength was its boost to Fire Release, not physical ability.
"Fire Release: Phoenix Flower Claw Crimson!"
The strongest Fire Release Obito currently knew was Phoenix Flower Claw Crimson. It had a wide range and considerable power, combining the sharpness of shuriken with the high-temperature burning of flames.
Obito expelled a large ball of fire; the shuriken passing through the flames turned into small fireballs that hurtled toward Kakashi.
"Lightning Release: False Darkness!"
Kakashi's hands moved swiftly, gathering a large amount of chakra in his throat and quickly completing the nature transformation, finally spitting it out as a great spear of lightning.
Rumble!!
The speeding lightning soon collided with the mass of small fireballs from Phoenix Flower Claw Crimson. A huge explosion rang out, and the resulting air currents blew Obito and Kakashi's hair back, leaving a scorched mark on the ground.
"They're both so skilled," Rin said in admiration as she watched the two exchange ninjutsu.
Compared to Obito and Kakashi, she seemed a bit specialized now, with her combat ability mainly relying on taijutsu.
"He even blocked my complete Phoenix Flower Claw Crimson enhanced by Flame Breathing. Looks like I'll have to use the Sharingan." Obito decided to go all out.
Originally, he wanted to see if he could defeat Kakashi without using the Sharingan, but now it seemed that without it, they'd likely end up evenly matched.
Obito focused chakra in his eyes; the color rapidly changed to blood red, and two tomoe patterns appeared within.
"Finally using it." Kakashi watched Obito warily, on guard against a surprise attack, while planning how to counterattack next.
Although he knew his chances of winning were slim, Kakashi didn't give up. A single mistake on a mission would let Obito talk about it for a month; if he lost here, Obito would probably remind him every day that he'd lost.
"The Sharingan—and it's two-tomoe!" Shisui exclaimed in surprise upon seeing Obito's eyes.
Since Obito had slept all day yesterday and only trained for one morning today, besides Muyue and the others who went on the mission with him, Shisui and Rin didn't know that Obito had awakened the Sharingan, and that it was instantly two-tomoe.
Shisui was deeply shocked. Obito didn't have the Sharingan before the mission, but now he could use it, which meant he must have awakened it during the mission. And in such a short time, the Sharingan couldn't have been trained to evolve; that is, Obito's Sharingan was awakened directly as two-tomoe.
As an Uchiha, Shisui knew what that meant—it meant Obito had great talent with the Sharingan.
Shisui felt a deep sense of threat; his Sharingan was still only one-tomoe.
"So that's the Sharingan of the Uchiha clan." Rin wasn't as surprised as Shisui.
She only knew about the Sharingan because Obito often boasted that if he had the Sharingan, he'd definitely thrash Kakashi. She didn't understand the significance of the Sharingan or the value of awakening two tomoe.
Shishishishi!!
After activating the Sharingan, Obito became very confident. He casually pulled out a shuriken and threw it at Kakashi, then took out a kunai and charged at him.
Kakashi dodged the shuriken, but that gave Obito an opportunity, and they entered another round of combat.
Clang!
Kakashi's White Fang Short Blade constantly clashed with Obito's kunai. Although Obito hadn't learned any special swordsmanship, thanks to the Sharingan's powerful insight and the physical abilities granted by the Breathing Technique, he succeeded in leaving several scratches on Kakashi's clothes.
"Such strong perceptive ability—all my attacks are seen through." Kakashi frowned deeply.
Earlier, when he saw Obito use the Sharingan without overpowering the Kumogakure jounin in close combat, he thought he could close the gap with his swordsmanship advantage.
But in actual battle, the Sharingan's boost was far greater than he imagined.
"Purple Lightning!"
Knowing he couldn't keep tangling with Obito like this, Kakashi burst chakra in his hand, and a dazzling purple lightning appeared in his grasp.
Obito immediately leaped backward to retreat, well aware of the technique's power.
However, Obito didn't expect it to be a feint from Kakashi. Both Purple Lightning and False Darkness consumed too much chakra; he had used False Darkness once before, and if he used Purple Lightning again, Kakashi would be nearly exhausted.
Having scared Obito off, Kakashi quickly retreated into the dense forest. Since he couldn't win head-on, he would rely on tactics.
Kakashi hid behind a tree, momentarily losing Obito's line of sight.
Obito quickly leaped to a high vantage point and used the Sharingan to scan the surroundings, but found no trace of Kakashi moving.
"It seems he's hiding there." Obito nodded, then swiftly formed hand seals.
"Fire Release: Fireball Technique!"
Obito concentrated chakra in his throat and expelled a large amount of flame in one breath. The flames quickly formed a three-meter-tall fireball that hurtled toward the tree where Kakashi was hiding.
Obito knew Kakashi was especially tricky, so he directly used the low-consumption, high-power Fireball to probe—if Kakashi didn't come out, he'd have to take the fireball head-on.
Things went as Obito predicted: Kakashi decisively ran out.
And Obito seized this opportunity to attack Kakashi.
Pfft!
The kunai slashed through Kakashi's body, but the Kakashi he attacked dissolved into smoke.
"Lightning Breathing: Thunder Flash!"
Kakashi, who had quietly moved away using Earth Release, reappeared. He focused his breathing as much as possible, burst chakra in his legs, and slammed the hilt of his blade toward Obito.
At that moment, Kakashi was as fast as lightning; even Rin could barely see his body.
"Haha, I was waiting for this move!" Instead of worrying, Obito was delighted. He had long known Kakashi wouldn't be easy to deal with and had been on guard.
In Rin Nohara's eyes, Kakashi was extremely fast, but in Obito's two-tomoe Sharingan, he was not all that fast.
Obito focused his breathing intensely, then sidestepped to dodge Kakashi's slash; the moment he noticed Kakashi's body pause, he flashed in and pressed a kunai against Kakashi.
"Obito wins." Muyue announced the result directly — this Kakashi was the original.
The outcome was just as he expected; being one step ahead with a pair of two-tomoe Sharingan was truly a huge advantage.
"Haha, I won this time!" Obito couldn't help cheering.
Four years — he had finally defeated the genius he had always admired with his own hands. He was no longer the dead-last Uchiha Obito, but the genius Uchiha Obito, because he had defeated the genius Hatake Kakashi!
"Hard work will bear fruit!" Watching Obito cheer, the emotional Might Guy instantly empathized, recalling the surprise of the moment when he himself first defeated Kakashi.
At that moment, he truly felt that all his efforts had not been in vain — everything had paid off.
Hope I can fall asleep early tonight. If I can be asleep by one, I should have the energy to draw ten thousand.
