Chapter 25: Unleashing Potential Properly

~7 min read 1,225 words

On Saturday morning, the three of them—Obito, Shisui, and Might Guy—began training according to Muyue's requirements.

Obito first learned the basic moves of taijutsu from Muyue. After practicing for an hour, Muyue let Obito rest, handed him a bottle of water, and wiped his sweat.

Obito immediately felt something was wrong. Although Muyue was a good teacher, normally he wouldn't be this attentive. Handing water was possible, but wiping sweat—at most he'd offer a towel.

"Obito, I think you still have a lot of potential that hasn't been unleashed." Muyue chuckled, capped the half-drunk water bottle, placed it on the ground, and said.

"No, no, no, I think my potential has already been fully unleashed by you, sensei." Obito felt that just after wiping away hot sweat, cold sweat broke out on his forehead.

"You, you still underestimate yourself." Muyue shook his head and said.

"How about this: when you fight Guy, every time you get hit, you'll do one extra problem during the next break.

I'm sure this will fully unleash your potential. Even if it doesn't, by doing more problems, your theoretical scores will improve."

"Sensei, that's not good. If I get hit hundreds of times, I don't mind doing the problems, but I'm afraid you'll get tired from making so many questions." Obito said, pretending to be concerned for Muyue.

Obito was really pressured, and in his desperation, his eloquence improved.

For Obito, having to grind through problems and test papers was far worse than an intense brawl with Might Guy—it was pure torture.

"Obito, I'm glad you're concerned about my health." Muyue showed a gratified expression.

Just as Obito thought he was going to escape misfortune, Muyue changed his tone.

"I guessed you were that kind of good kid, so I prepared a large number of problems for you in advance. No need to worry about running out of questions." Muyue smiled and pulled out a stack of test papers, indicating there were plenty.

"Is that enough? If not, I'll have my shadow clones make more." Muyue asked with a smile.

"Enough, enough." Obito frantically shook his head and waved his hands. Just looking at the stack in Muyue's hand was already overwhelming.

Even though the sun was blazing and Muyue's smile was warm, Obito felt a chill shoot from his soles straight to his head.

Unable to get through to Muyue, Obito decided to take an indirect approach. Since he couldn't avoid doing problems, he might as well do fewer.

With that in mind, Obito quickly winked at Might Guy, signaling him to go easy later.

Might Guy caught Obito's signal, flashed his bright white teeth, smiled easily, and gave Obito a thumbs up.

"As for Guy, if you don't land a single hit, you'll have to do fifty problems. For each hit you land, you deduct one problem, with a maximum reduction of forty." Muyue continued.

Might Guy's expression suddenly changed. With a serious face, he gave Obito another thumbs up.

"I have to go all out? No way!" Obito wailed, clutching his head. He could already see a flood of problems rushing toward him.

"For the sake of youth, I must go all out to minimize the problems!" Might Guy felt himself burning with passion.

Obito didn't want to do problems, and Guy didn't want to either.

In the ensuing fight, Might Guy threw heavy punches, directly exploding at 120% speed, chasing after Obito.

Obito, also not wanting to do problems, unleashed his potential. After being hit a dozen times, his footwork became much more agile.

Muyue watched the two make such great progress and nodded with satisfaction. "Isn't there still a lot of potential that hasn't been unleashed?"

When both had exhausted their strength, the fight was considered over.

Obito was hit over thirty times, so he had to do over thirty problems, while Might Guy only needed to do a dozen or so.

Muyue felt the effect was very good. If they trained like this, perhaps in less than two months, Hyuga Kado would no longer be their match.

"What a pity. Rin Nohara's talent isn't good. If I also took Rin as a disciple, it would be easy to motivate Obito." Muyue thought.

For the sake of keeping a low profile, he was reluctant to bring non-disciples to train together.

Actually, there was an even better candidate—Kakashi.

Rin could only motivate Obito alone, but if Kakashi were also there, then both Obito and Might Guy would be motivated.

Kakashi's talent was sufficient, but unfortunately, it was unlikely for Kakashi to become his student, since Kakashi had become a chunin two years ago.

Muyue accompanied them in training until noon, had lunch with the three, then left two shadow clones behind. His main body went to the Third Hokage's house, ready to start his tutoring job.

Perhaps because he was still at work, Muyue didn't see Sarutobi Hiruzen's figure, only a middle-aged woman with a single ponytail—Sarutobi Hiruzen's wife, Sarutobi Biwako.

"Lady Biwako." Muyue greeted.

"Are you the teacher Hanyu that Hiruzen mentioned?" Sarutobi Biwako recalled the Third's description of his appearance and then asked.

【】

Muyue nodded.

"Asuma is waiting for you in the backyard." Sarutobi Biwako pointed Muyue in the right direction, then reminded him:

"Asuma is a bit rebellious, so please be patient with him, Teacher Yuhiro. If he really proves impossible to manage, just let me know."

"I will. But I do have some special tricks for dealing with rebellious students." Muyue replied with a smile, then walked toward where Sarutobi Biwako had indicated.

When he reached the backyard, Muyue indeed saw a child about nine years old lying against a tree, chewing on a blade of grass, looking utterly bored.

Muyue first performed an appraisal.

【Name: Sarutobi Asuma】

【Chakra: 1100】

【Potential: A+】

Seeing the A+ potential, Muyue shook his head inwardly. If it had been an S-, he might have been tempted. But an A+ was just one tier lower in potential.

Noticing Muyue's arrival, Asuma spat out the grass in his mouth. Without standing up, he asked directly:

"You're the one who's supposed to teach me—Hanyu Muyue?"

Without waiting for Muyue's reply, Asuma quickly continued:

"Look, if you can't make me surpass the old man—the Third Hokage—then just leave. It's pointless."

Asuma figured he needed to put a scare into this tutor and gain the upper hand.

Just as Asuma was wondering how Muyue would respond, Muyue shook his head and said:

"Of course I can't do that."

"Then you can go." Asuma waved his hand and lay back down.

He didn't believe Muyue would actually leave just like that.

"Alright, I'll be on my way. Please inform Lady Biwako that you don't need a tutor." Muyue turned to leave.

Seeing that Muyue really looked like he was about to leave, Asuma thought, What the hell? Why isn't he playing by the script?

Shouldn't he be gently persuading me not to mess around or something? Why is he just walking away?

"Hey, hey, don't go yet!" Asuma did a koi leap to his feet and called Muyue back.

If the teacher got driven away before even starting the lesson, his mother would definitely chew him out.
