Chapter 269: Feasibility of Bringing Minato Home

"Uncle Sawada, give us ten more D-rank missions!" Walking into the mission hall, Obito said with a bold tone.

To be able to take C-rank missions, Obito was really going all out, planning to do another thirty missions today.

"There are no more D-rank missions available for you right now," Sawada Kazuya shook his head and replied.

Actually, there were still missions, but they couldn't keep giving them to Obito's team, because other genin also needed work. At their pace, some genin teams in the village would have nothing to do.

"Great, we're finally done." Obito's eyes lit up with a smile. Using shadow clones was efficient, but it was too tiring.

"So does that mean we can take C-rank missions now?"

"No." Sawada Kazuya answered very decisively. He wasn't the Hokage, so he didn't have that authority.

Obito wanted to ask why, but he suddenly noticed the Third Hokage sitting nearby talking with a ninja, so he walked over.

After the Third Hokage finished assigning that ninja's designated mission, he happened to see Obito approaching and asked with a chuckle, "How does it feel to be a full-fledged ninja?"

"Not great. It's worse than when we were trainees – we can only do D-rank missions again." Obito complained in reply.

"Hokage-sama, you know my strength. And Kakashi is a chunin, Rin is no weakling either. Our team can definitely handle C-rank missions." Obito eagerly introduced his squad members.

If he weren't indoors, he would have wanted to fire off a full-powered fireball to prove his strength.

"You and Kakashi do indeed have the strength to complete C-rank missions." Hiruzen Sarutobi nodded, a thoughtful expression on his face.

Rules are established for a reason; not letting fresh genin take C-rank missions is to protect them. But for a team like Minato's squad, Hiruzen Sarutobi thought a slight break in the rules wouldn't be a problem.

"Minato, do you think their current strength is sufficient to complete C-rank missions?" Hiruzen Sarutobi asked, looking at Minato.

Minato replied with a serious expression, "I think there's no problem."

They had already proven their strength during the bell test. Not to mention C-rank missions, Minato thought B-rank missions would be fine too.

"From now on, when Minato's squad accepts missions, don't use the standard for fresh genin." Seeing that even Minato had acknowledged their strength, Hiruzen Sarutobi walked over to the registrar and said.

"Rin, see, I told you there was no problem." Obito ran over to Rin with a beaming face, trying to take credit.

Kakashi always said he was stupid, but Obito thought he was clever as hell – he just wasn't good at studying theoretical knowledge.

"Just like you predicted, Obito. That's really impressive." Rin smiled and praised him.

She hadn't expected that quickly doing D-rank missions would actually work; she had already been prepared to comfort Obito.

"What really worked wasn't doing a lot of D-rank missions, but the experience during the trainee period and Captain Minato." Kakashi gave his own opinion.

The only difference in their team was replacing Might Guy with Rin; it wasn't much different from the trainee period. Their captain, Namikaze Minato, was also very strong. Kakashi believed these were the two reasons they had regained the privilege of taking C-rank missions.

"I think you're just jealous of my intelligence, Kakashi. Why didn't you tell me earlier about the method to get C-rank missions?" Obito said smugly, completely unfazed by Kakashi's words.

Kakashi:...

He didn't understand where Obito got the confidence to use that word.

But there were too many people here, and the Hokage was also present, so Kakashi decided to spare Obito's face and didn't bring up Obito's actual grades – instead of debating the topic of "intelligence."

Seeing Kakashi stay silent, Obito took it as admission. Beaming, he ran over beside Minato to pick missions together.

"Are there any missions that go through scenic places?" Obito asked curiously.

"This is work, not a vacation..." The registrar replied in exasperation. This was the first time he'd heard such an odd request.

"Scenery, huh... how about this escort mission to the Land of Hot Water?" Minato thought for a moment and pointed to a C-rank mission.

The Land of Hot Water was located northeast of the Land of Fire. As Minato remembered, its scenery was no worse than the Land of Fire's, and it had many natural hot springs.

The registrar asked to confirm once more, and after getting the affirmative, he registered the mission for Minato.

"The Land of Hot Water – a country I've never been to." A hint of curiosity appeared on Obito's face. So far, he had only visited three countries: the Land of Rice Paddies, the Land of Grass, and the Land of Rivers. The most memorable place was the desert in the western part of the Land of Rivers.

For Obito, who had grown up in the Land of Fire with lush forests everywhere, the endless yellow sand desert was quite shocking.

"By the way, Minato-sensei, the border surveillance squad reported that recently quite a few Cloud ninja have appeared near the Land of Hot Water. Be careful when carrying out the mission." The registrar warned.

Under normal circumstances, this mission wouldn't encounter ninja, because it was just escorting an ordinary person to a very ordinary place.

But right now, Cloud and Leaf were in a state of war. If ninjas from both sides accidentally ran into each other, they would definitely fight to the death.

"Thank you, I will." Minato smiled in gratitude.

Next, Minato took Kakashi and the other two to find the client.

"You must be the ninja who accepted my mission. I'm Quan Zongshu. I'm ready to depart; we can set off anytime." Quan Zongshu said with a smile.

"In that case, let's head out now." Minato nodded and said, never one to dawdle on missions.

Quan Zongshu hadn't prepared a carriage; the five of them set out on foot toward the Land of Hot Water.

Their formation was Minato and Obito at the front, Kakashi and Rin Nohara flanking, and the client protected in the middle.

"Captain Minato, I think that space-time ninjutsu of yours is really amazing. If you leave a kunai at home and scatter some on the battlefield, when you get tired you could go back home and rest a while, then come back and catch the enemy off guard. Wouldn't that be unbeatable?" Obito said, suddenly struck by the idea.

The more he thought about it, the more he felt that this "go-home Minato" tactic was utterly unstoppable—maybe only the all-powerful Muyue Sage could go up against it.

Minato paused for a moment after hearing this, feeling that Obito's imagination was quite rich.

"That's a good idea, but the Flying Thunder God isn't as convenient as you imagine." Minato explained with a smile.

"The Flying Thunder God's teleportation has a range limit. If the distance is too great, I can't use it."

His Flying Thunder God didn't have unlimited range, and the farther the distance, the more chakra it consumed.

"The enemy won't just stand still either. While I'm away using the Flying Thunder God, they can go somewhere else."

There was actually a solution to that point: directly leaving a Flying Thunder God mark on the enemy.

But that created a new problem: it's hard for Minato to leave a Flying Thunder God mark on a strong opponent, and against a weak one he can defeat them without needing a mark.

Of course, the main issue was that the first problem couldn't be solved, so the "go-home Minato" tactic couldn't be realized.

"Then just leave more kunai in between, and tie a few short strings together to extend the range!" Obito said, almost admiring his own cleverness for solving the root problem.

"Obito, a ninja's chakra isn't unlimited." Minato explained with a smile.

Going back and forth like that—even if he rested at home for an hour—would be useless. He'd already waste a lot of chakra just getting to the enemy, and long-distance teleportation consumes a lot of chakra.

"Huh, I guess that's true." Obito realized chakra was indeed a problem.

For example, he could use the characteristics of Flame Breathing to form a single hand seal extremely fast and release jutsu. Theoretically, if he kept spamming jutsu, no one could get close, but his chakra couldn't support it.

When night fell, Minato found a relatively hidden spot and set up tents to rest.

They as ninjas could travel day and night, but the client was an ordinary person and needed a good night's rest.

Obito took this opportunity to continue passing on his mission experience to Rin Nohara.

"You definitely have to watch what Kakashi says. If Kakashi says there's no way anything will go wrong, then be careful, because that's when something's about to go wrong." Obito said with a serious face.

"No way?" Rin Nohara felt Obito's words sounded like a joke, but his expression seemed serious.

"It's all just coincidence!" Unable to hold back, Kakashi spoke up to explain.

"But that's how it was every time on previous missions. Once could be written off, but four times in a row—how can that be coincidence?" Obito retorted.

"Then how about this: you tell us whether we'll run into any ninja on this mission or not." Obito continued.

Kakashi's mind raced, and for a moment he didn't know how to answer.

Normally, a C-rank mission wouldn't encounter ninja, but they were in a time of war, and the registration ninja had said there were Cloud ninja active in the Land of Hot Water, so Kakashi couldn't be sure.

"See, you're not confident yourself." Obito wore a victorious smile.

"This mission won't have any accidents." Spurred on, Kakashi thought for a moment and chose the more likely option.

Even though the Land of Hot Water had Cloud ninja, it was still a country; the chance of running into them was small. The mission's destination was in the southern part of the Land of Hot Water, a city close to the Land of Fire, which further reduced the likelihood of encountering enemies.

Plus, the first four C-rank missions had all gone wrong, and Kakashi thought that even with bad luck, it couldn't possibly be five accidents in a row.

"He actually said it! Rin, this is no joke—you really have to be careful." Obito said gravely.

Based on Kakashi's previous track record, Obito was sure they would run into ninja.

Watching the two of them argue over something so odd, Rin Nohara gave a resigned smile and said, "I'll be careful. Thanks for the warning, Obito."

The TV version had an original C-rank mission for Minato's team, but it was scattered, and after thinking a long time about how to adapt it reasonably, I just abandoned it.
