Chapter 283: Jiraiya
Ninja Academy Teacher, I Get Stronger by Teaching — Main Story, Chapter 201: Jiraiya—"This time it's still a hit training session. Go all out to attack the Shadow Clone and win." Muyue spoke after splitting into three Shadow Clones.
Because it was Kakashi's first time participating, Muyue explained the training penalty mechanism again.
"Then I'll have to settle it quickly, hitting the Shadow Clone as fast as possible." Kakashi thought after hearing the rules.
Since it was a training session with scores, Kakashi naturally hoped to get good results, and he didn't want to do so many questions.
If it was the level of questions from the Ninja Academy, that would be fine, but Muyue's questions weren't simple. Doing a few occasionally, Kakashi would find it quite good, but too many and he couldn't handle it.
The number Kakashi could accept was about thirty questions per training session. That way, completing them in a week would average only four to five questions a day, which he could easily finish during rests between training.
"Begin!"
"Lightning Breathing, Total Concentration Breathing!"
Kakashi silently changed his breathing rhythm to concentrate his breath to the utmost limit.
The moment Muyue shouted "Begin", Kakashi instantly drew his White Fang Short Blade and charged to attack the Shadow Clone.
Training was different from real combat. Real combat required handling various unexpected situations, so one had to conserve physical strength and chakra. A ten-minute time-limited training session obviously did not require that.
Kakashi performed Lightning Nature Transformation on a large amount of chakra and then burst it in his lower body. His speed suddenly increased, and in the blink of an eye, he was in front of the Shadow Clone.
A flash of white light passed, and the tree beside the Shadow Clone was cut down. However, the Shadow Clone, which had retreated in time to dodge, remained unharmed.
"It can react even at this speed? Looks like going all out normally won't end the training quickly." Kakashi thought.
Because it was training, the Shadow Clone wouldn't attack him. So Kakashi had just pushed his speed to the limit, yet he still barely missed hitting the Shadow Clone. Therefore, Kakashi judged that using full power in the usual way wouldn't let him finish the training early.
The training was very difficult, but it was within Kakashi's expectations. After all, even someone like Obito, who was improving rapidly, found this training unbearably hard, which showed how tough it was.
Then Kakashi tested a few more times and found that no matter how much he pushed his strength to the limit, he was always just barely short.
After three minutes of probing, Kakashi changed his tactics. He threw a smoke bomb to conceal his position, then had a Shadow Clone draw attention on the surface while his real body moved underground.
After a brief close-quarters struggle with the Shadow Clone, Kakashi decisively emerged and used Purple Lightning. To ensure he hit Muyue, Kakashi dispersed the Purple Lightning into over a dozen bolts of lightning that shot toward Muyue.
Muyue unhurriedly sidestepped and distanced himself a bit from Kakashi's Shadow Clone, then clasped his hands and spat out a massive amount of flames, blocking all of Kakashi's Purple Lightning.
"Normal tactics won't work either." Kakashi temporarily halted his attack, quickly reviewing the situation in his mind to gain more information.
Based on Muyue's performance, Kakashi judged that Muyue had definitely known his real body was hiding in the shadows the whole time—the whole sequence of movements was too smooth.
When the time reached nine minutes, Kakashi still hadn't hit the Shadow Clone once.
"Looks like I won't be able to finish early this time. But with this experience, I can come up with a targeted tactic once I get back." Kakashi thought. One minute was clearly not enough for him to organize an offensive capable of hitting the Shadow Clone.
During those nine minutes, Kakashi wasn't just blindly charging at the Shadow Clone like a headless fly; he was gathering as much information as possible.
The information Kakashi had gathered so far: the Shadow Clone's speed was just a bit faster than his own; its ninjutsu was far stronger, making it impossible to win through ninjutsu duels; and if he didn't use ninjutsu, the Shadow Clone wouldn't use it either.
The second and third points could corroborate each other. If the Shadow Clone's ninjutsu was that strong and it used it freely, then even if their strength doubled, they probably couldn't even touch the Shadow Clone.
After ten minutes, Muyue announced the results.
"No one hit the Shadow Clone before ten minutes. All three of you have fifty questions."
"Aah, fifty questions again?" Obito's eyes gradually lost their light as he thought about the horror he would face tonight.
Shisui gasped for breath a couple of times. He had also made an operation plan this time, but it didn't succeed. Moreover, Shisui noticed that this time's Shadow Clone was faster than the last one.
"Everyone, try your best to finish the questions. There's no time limit this time. You can come to me tonight to discuss the problems." Muyue said with a smile.
This time he had reset the Shadow Clone's strength. As long as the disciples didn't break through during training or think of a good combat plan, they would basically just have to let the ten-minute training end automatically.
But now most of the students had graduated, so Muyue canceled the time limit, letting the students finish as they saw fit. The greatest significance of doing questions was not the questions themselves, but the thinking generated by doing them and the knowledge Muyue imparted afterward.
"Great!" Obito's dull eyes immediately regained some sparkle. Without a time limit, it meant that there would be no more detestable things like installment plans.
Although installment plans had once made things easier for him for a while, when Obito thought of the extra questions that came out of nowhere, he felt they were an utterly evil existence.
With the afternoon training over, considering that this was Obito and the others' last day of rest, Muyue said he would cook them a big feast. For that, Muyue bought quite a lot of ingredients.
However, coincidentally, an unexpected guest came in the evening.
"Haha, it's quite lively here. Looks like we came at just the right time." Jiraiya laughed heartily and walked into Muyue's house along with Minato.
The war with Iwagakure had come to a temporary halt. Although it wasn't a complete ceasefire, there were no more large-scale battles, so Jiraiya had returned to Konoha to rest.
"Minato-sensei, Toad Uncle, how did you get here?" Obito greeted Jiraiya.
"What Toad Uncle? I'm the Toad Sage!" Jiraiya corrected him.
"Ahem, the Toad Sage is my reclusive title, but my more widely known name is one of the Legendary Sannin—and I'm the most handsome white-haired pretty boy among the Sannin, Jiraiya!" Since there were two children he didn't know, Jiraiya gave a grand self-introduction.
"Is that the Jiraiya-sama who's as famous as Lady Tsunade?" Rin Nohara asked with a surprised expression.
The Legendary Sannin were very well-known in Konoha; even Rin, a fresh graduate, knew their names.
"That's right, the legendary Jiraiya-sama is yours truly!" Jiraiya puffed out his chest and said proudly.
Minato watched Jiraiya proudly introducing himself to a few children and couldn't help but facepalm.
Shisui looked a bit odd—these so-called Sannin didn't seem very reliable.
"You sure picked a good time. I was just about to make a big feast." Muyue said with a chuckle.
Jiraiya's timing was indeed perfect; it had been a while since Muyue chose the Mystical Palm Technique as a reward, and now he had a perfectly normal reason to ask Jiraiya to connect him with Tsunade for advice.
"A feast!" Jiraiya's eyes lit up. He was sure this was the best thing he'd heard in days—Muyue's feast meant countless delicious dishes.
Hearing Muyue's words, Minato immediately went to the kitchen to help.
Jiraiya, meanwhile, stayed in the living room telling the children about his travels across the ninja world.
"Toad Uncle, you have that much free time? You actually got to visit so many countries?" Hearing Jiraiya talk about traveling the world, Obito became interested.
He had only been to a few small neighboring countries himself, and each time he left quickly.
"I travel the ninja world not for fun, but for something very important—something that concerns the fate of the entire ninja world." Jiraiya raised an eyebrow and said.
Jiraiya had been searching for the Child of Prophecy foretold by the Great Toad Sage; after the war was completely over, he would continue his journey.
"What's so important that it concerns the fate of the entire ninja world?" Obito looked at Jiraiya suspiciously. He knew Jiraiya was strong, but the whole ninja world seemed like an exaggeration.
"You wouldn't understand even if I told you. Anyway, a dimwit like you who can't even say someone's name right could never be the Child of Prophecy." Jiraiya said and burst out laughing.
If Jiraiya had to pick who among his students looked most like the Child of Prophecy, his first choice was Nagato, because Nagato had the legendary Rinnegan of the Sage of Six Paths, and his second choice was Minato, whose ninja talent was extraordinary.
"I'm not a dimwit! The elders of our Uchiha clan say I'm a genius." Obito retorted.
Rin was right there—how could Obito let himself be labeled a dimwit?
"They say only a dimwit gets flustered when someone calls them a dimwit." Jiraiya added.
"I..." Obito looked like he wanted to say something but held back. He wanted to explain, but Jiraiya's words made him suppress it.
"Hahaha, kid, you're really interesting—nothing like those other Uchiha." Seeing Obito wanting to speak but not daring to, Jiraiya couldn't help but smile.
This was the first time he had met such an innocent Uchiha like Obito; seeing him made Jiraiya want to tease him.
Kakashi:...
What else could he say? Only that Jiraiya's image in his mind was steadily crumbling.
Kakashi silently noted Jiraiya's methods to use on Obito later.
"Jiraiya-sama, can you tell me about Lady Tsunade?" Rin looked at Jiraiya with hopeful eyes.
Jiraiya thought for a moment. The first thing that came to mind was Tsunade's addiction to gambling and her habit of skipping out on bills, but seeing Rin's expectant little face, he picked the good words and said a few of Tsunade's merits.
"Chicken soup is here!" Muyue carried a large pot of chicken soup to the dining table.
Next came a variety of dishes—most were from the various cuisines of Muyue's previous life, and a few were native to the world of Naruto.
When plates of tantalizingly aromatic dishes were brought up, no one was chatting anymore. They all swallowed their saliva and stared at the dishes on the table with longing.
After Muyue brought out the last dish, a war without gunpowder began.
