Chapter 372: Don't Plant Flags Before a Mission

~10 min read 1,816 words

"Obito, can you tell me about what happened during your field trip?" Shisui asked Obito during a break in training.

Shisui had already discussed with Muyue about participating in the field trip and then graduating early, so he wanted to gain some field experience from Obito.

Originally, Shisui wanted to ask Kakashi, because he felt Kakashi would be much more reliable in this regard, but Kakashi seemed to have something going on and didn't come to the Southern Forest area today.

After Minato returned, Obito and the others basically split their time between the two—training a few days at Minato's place and then coming back to Muyue's side for a bit.

"Shisui, why are you asking about that? Aren't you only in your second year?" Obito scratched his head and asked in confusion.

"I plan to graduate early in my second year, so I'm going to participate in this year's field trip," Shisui explained.

"I see." Obito showed an expression of sudden realization.

Obito didn't think there was anything wrong with Shisui graduating early. Kakashi had graduated directly without finishing his first year, and since Shisui could defeat Kakashi at the same age, Obito saw no problem with Shisui graduating early.

"Then you've come to the right person. I was one of the best in the graduation field trip!" As he spoke, Obito couldn't help puffing out his chest and showing a proud expression.

Their team ranked first in both the quantity and quality of completed missions. The reason he said "one of" was because Might Guy was on his team.

"Yeah, amazing." Shisui clapped and praised.

Although his clapping and smile lacked enthusiasm, he knew this would make Obito happy.

Sure enough, Obito soon wore a smug grin on his face.

"First, trainee ninjas are still ninjas. You'll be taking on commissioned missions, and accidents can easily happen during those missions, so you need to be cautious when doing them," Obito began to explain.

Shisui nodded, realizing that Obito wasn't as unreliable in this area as he had imagined.

"Don't panic if something unexpected happens. As long as you work hard together with your comrades, you can always overcome the difficulties," Obito encouraged, clenching his fist.

The time they encountered the Thunder Shadow candidate, it was precisely because he, Might Guy, and Kakashi never gave up and refused to accept defeat that they finally defeated the Cloud ninja jonin.

"Obito, did a lot of unexpected things happen during your field trip?" Shisui asked curiously.

He could see from Obito's expression that it wasn't just something he said offhand, but came from genuine feeling.

"Nothing unexpected happened on D-rank missions, but it seems like all the C-rank missions had surprises—like running into the Thunder Shadow candidate or encountering an enemy force of over a thousand ninjas attacking," Obito thought for a moment and answered.

"Field trips are that dangerous?" Shisui almost thought he misheard.

Encounters with a Thunder Shadow candidate and a battle with over a thousand ninjas—shouldn't those be S-rank missions?

"Of course it's dangerous. If it weren't for Teacher Muyue, we would have died on those missions," Obito said matter-of-factly.

"But none of the other field trip teams suffered any casualties," Shisui felt something was off.

Even though he could tell Obito wasn't lying, the content was indeed somewhat unreasonable.

"Probably because the other teams could only take D-rank missions. Our team was specially authorized by the Hokage to take C-rank missions during the field trip," Obito also found it a bit strange, then remembered that the other teams couldn't take C-rank missions at all.

Shisui nodded, thinking it might be better to ask Kakashi another day.

"Oh, right. Before setting off on a mission, never say that nothing unexpected will happen, because if you do, something unexpected will definitely happen," Obito suddenly thought of something and warned with a serious expression.

Obito believed that Kakashi was the main reason for so many accidents, because every time before heading out, Kakashi would say that nothing would go wrong, and the more he guaranteed it, the bigger the accident that ended up happening.

Shisui found this a bit strange, but seeing how serious Obito was, he still made a mental note.

After finishing a day of training, Shisui returned home exhausted.

Shisui first rested a bit, then prepared to make himself dinner.

Just then, a knock suddenly sounded from outside the house.

When Shisui opened the door and clearly saw who was behind it, a smile mixed with a hint of surprise appeared on his face.

"Uncle Nobuhiro," Shisui greeted with a smile.

Standing at the door was none other than his biological uncle, whom he hadn't seen in a long time.

Perhaps because of the war, Shisui felt that Uchiha Nobuhiro was busier than before, sometimes not being in the village for months.

"Shisui, long time no see. You seem to have grown a bit taller." Uchiha Nobuhiro replied with a hearty laugh.

"Last time I left, you seemed to only reach about here," Uchiha Nobuhiro said, gesturing.

"Uncle Nobuhiro, come inside first. I'll pour you some tea," Shisui welcomed Uchiha Nobuhiro into the house.

Uchiha Nobuhiro nodded and placed the fruits and sweets he brought on the table.

"Shisui, have you eaten?" Taking the tea that Shisui handed him, Uchiha Nobuhiro asked. Looking at the surroundings, it didn't seem like after a meal.

"Not yet, I was just about to cook." Shisui answered truthfully.

"Perfect, I haven't eaten either. Let you taste your uncle's cooking." Uchiha Nobuhiro laughed and walked toward the kitchen.

Regardless of whether he had eaten or not, at this moment he had to say he hadn't. When he wasn't around, it was fine, but when he was, he definitely had to take care of Shisui as much as possible.

Shisui did not refuse Uchiha Nobuhiro's kindness, but he followed him to the kitchen to help.

"How has life been lately? Have you encountered any difficulties in training?" While eating, Uchiha Nobuhiro asked with concern.

His uncle's cooking, and then asking all sorts of questions with a concerned look, made Shisui subconsciously recall memories of being taken care of by Uchiha Nobuhiro as a child.

"Very good, no difficulties." Shisui shook his head and replied.

The inheritance left by his family meant he didn't have to worry about money, and in training, Muyue helped him resolve doubts, so he truly hadn't encountered any difficulties.

Muyue was too considerate in every aspect; she even noticed his moods in daily life and celebrated his birthday with him.

"Shisui, you're so mature that it makes me, your uncle, seem useless. As expected of a genius of our Uchiha clan." Uchiha Nobuhiro praised with a smile.

"But there's actually something I want to tell you, uncle." Shisui thought for a moment and then spoke.

"I want to graduate early and become a ninja."

Shisui told Uchiha Nobuhiro about his plan to graduate early.

"Graduate early huh..." Uchiha Nobuhiro fell into thought.

"If there's nothing to learn at the Ninja Academy, then there's indeed no need to stay." Uchiha Nobuhiro affirmed Shisui's thoughts.

As Shisui's uncle, he knew Shisui's talent.

Based on Shisui's performance, barring any accidents, Uchiha Nobuhiro believed Shisui could become the next Uchiha Kagami, or even surpass him.

Becoming a ninja meant danger, but it also meant faster growth.

Because of his special experiences, Shisui had maturity far beyond his peers. Uchiha Nobuhiro believed this was the result of Shisui's careful consideration.

Having received his uncle's approval, a smile appeared on Shisui's face.

Even if Uchiha Nobuhiro disagreed, it wouldn't affect his early graduation, but since he was the person he trusted second most, Shisui still cared about Uchiha Nobuhiro's opinion.

After the meal, Uchiha Nobuhiro proposed a sparring match, just to digest the food as well.

To make Uchiha Nobuhiro more at ease about him becoming a ninja, Shisui agreed.

Due to being busy, Uchiha Nobuhiro had not guided his training for a long time, so he was not aware of his current strength.

To avoid damaging the house, Shisui specifically took Uchiha Nobuhiro to a nearby empty lot.

"Attack me with all your strength." Uchiha Nobuhiro stood opposite Shisui and said.

"Flame Breathing, Total Concentration!"

Shisui immediately concentrated his breathing to the utmost to strengthen his body and enhance his chakra nature transformation.

"Fire Style: Great Fireball Chain!"

Shisui gathered a large amount of chakra in his throat and then spat out two huge fireballs in succession toward Uchiha Nobuhiro.

Knowing that Uchiha Nobuhiro was a powerful Uchiha jonin, Shisui did not hold back and used his full strength directly.

"Is this a further development of the Great Fireball?"

Looking at the two huge fireballs heading toward him, Uchiha Nobuhiro was somewhat surprised.

Even a Uchiha chunin using a Great Fireball like that would be considered good, yet Shisui actually spat out two in one breath.

Uchiha Nobuhiro quickly moved his body to dodge. Being extremely familiar with the Great Fireball, he naturally could not be hit by two such fireballs.

Whoosh!

Chakra burst from Shisui's legs as he charged at Uchiha Nobuhiro at high speed.

Thud!

Uchiha Nobuhiro caught Shisui's fist with his palm, but couldn't control his body and took a step backward.

"Could it be that I've actually been gone for four years, and Shisui is already eleven?" Uchiha Nobuhiro recalled Shisui's speed just now and, feeling the force transmitted through his palm, couldn't help saying.

Shisui was so strong that he almost suspected he had time-traveled. Although he hadn't been serious, he was still a Jōnin, and one of the stronger ones at that.

"No, I'm still seven." Shisui flickered backward, opening distance as he replied.

"Fire Dragon Flame Bullet!"

Shisui's hands rapidly formed hand seals, gathering most of his chakra and quickly converting it into flame, then exhaling it in one burst.

As fellow cultivators of the Flame Breathing method, and with Shisui having even greater ninjutsu talent than Obito, Muyue had naturally also taught Shisui this powerful Fire Release technique.

Watching the massive waves of high-temperature flame rushing toward him, Uchiha Nobuhiro's eyes widened, his face full of disbelief.

This... is this really seven years old?

Uchiha Nobuhiro was certain that barring accident, Shisui would definitely surpass Uchiha Kagami, because Uchiha Kagami at Shisui's age was nowhere near this strong.

For a single instant, Uchiha Nobuhiro felt that Shisui could reach the level of Uchiha Madara.

But it was only an instant. Uchiha Madara and Senju Hashirama were two legends of the shinobi world; the gap between them and ordinary shinobi was far too vast.

Using Fire Release to cancel out Shisui's Fire Dragon Flame Bullet, Uchiha Nobuhiro looked at Shisui with eyes full of delight.

With strength like this, Shisui had no problem becoming a Genin—or even a Chūnin, and among Chūnin he would be a strong one. He could definitely protect himself.
