Chapter 46: Yin Nature Change
Kakashi appeared on the arena in a flash.
"Good luck, Kakashi." Rin Nohara cheered him on.
Watching Kakashi use the Body Flicker Technique just to get onto the arena, Obito thought Kakashi was really showing off; he decided he'd have to learn the Body Flicker Technique too someday.
"Contestant Hatake Kakashi is no ordinary person—he's a famous prodigy here in Konoha. I believe this is your second time participating in the competition, right?" The host gave him a bit more introduction because of Kakashi's reputation.
"Mm." Kakashi nodded calmly, saying nothing more, maintaining an aloof attitude.
"Contestant Hatake Kakashi, what ninjutsu will you be performing this time?" the host asked.
"Earth-Style Wall." Kakashi replied.
After the host stepped back, Kakashi quickly formed hand signs, and his chakra erupted.
"Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall!"
As Kakashi used the jutsu, the ground shook, and then a massive, thick wall slowly rose behind him.
"An Earth Release ninjutsu of this level..." The judge stared at the long, sturdy Earth-Style Wall, lost in thought for a moment.
If a jutsu of this caliber had appeared earlier, he would have definitely given full marks. But now that there was already one perfect score, giving another would mean two first-place winners.
After thinking it over, the judge finally raised the sign showing ten. He decided to leave that headache to the organizers.
"That guy is as insane as ever." Asuma wasn't surprised by Kakashi's strength.
"If I want to defeat Kakashi when he uses ninjutsu, I still need to keep training." Might Guy recalled the fight when Kakashi went all out that day.
That time it had been almost a complete stomp—aside from one unexpected kick from the Konoha Whirlwind, Kakashi had no chance to fight back at all.
Seeing a judge give a perfect score of ten, Obito felt something was off. If Kakashi also got full marks, who would be declared first?
"Ten, ten, ten! Contestant Hatake Kakashi's total score is thirty!
Unbelievable! This is the second perfect score of today's competition, and the first time in the history of this event that we've had two perfect scores." The host exclaimed.
The quality of contestants in this competition was exceptionally high—two perfect scores had already appeared. Someone like Uchiha Tekka, with his skill level, would have easily taken first place in the previous competition.
"What terrible luck." Uchiha Tekka felt a bit dejected. He had thought he could take first, but now he had been pushed down to third.
Still, he had to admit defeat, because the ninjutsu Kakashi and Obito had used were truly powerful.
"If you had entered, Shisui, I'm sure you could have gotten full marks too." Uchiha Tekka said.
He had confidence in Shisui. Though he was two years older than Shisui, he knew he was no match for him.
Shisui smiled but didn't reply. He had never been interested in this competition, and since Obito wanted first so badly, he wasn't going to enter.
"Satisfied now? If you want to beat me, train for a few more years." Kakashi said to Obito as he stepped off the stage.
"What are you so cocky about? We both got thirty points, and I got mine first. By rights, I should be the winner." Obito retorted defiantly.
"You got thirty because that's all you could get. I got thirty because thirty is the maximum." Kakashi said calmly.
"You..." Obito couldn't argue with Kakashi, and his face started to turn red.
"Alright, you're both amazing. No need to argue." Rin Nohara stood between them, giving a helpless smile.
Near the competition venue, the organizing merchants began to discuss.
"How did we end up with two perfect scores? How are we supposed to decide the ranking now?"
"How about a tiebreaker? Have them compete again using different ninjutsu?" one merchant suggested.
"That would make it easier to decide first place, but it doesn't seem fair. One of them is still a student; mastering that Fire Release jutsu is already impressive." another merchant thought it wasn't appropriate.
"Can't we just have them tie for first?" A voice suddenly cut in.
The merchants found the voice unfamiliar, then realized that at some point a blond man with a forehead protector had come up beside them.
"You could also use the 'double first-place' as a gimmick to offer a discount celebration and attract more shoppers." Mu Yue suggested with a smile.
"That's a good idea." The merchants thought it over and found Mu Yue's proposal very appealing.
One of the purposes of hosting this competition was to increase foot traffic in the shopping district. If they could attract more people to buy things, that would be even better.
Even just a little extra traffic would make up for the cost—after all, the first-place prize was only eight thousand ryo.
"This ninja-sama, have you ever thought about opening a shop here?" A shopkeeper, feeling that Muyue had a good head for business, invited him.
"No, I'm just an ordinary chūnin passing through. This competition of yours is excellent—it can motivate the village's youth to train hard." After a word of praise, Muyue left.
If he had made Obito and Kakashi compete in an extra round, Obito would certainly not have been able to beat Kakashi.
For the sake of Obito's first place, he had gone to great lengths and done everything he could; he hoped the reward at that time would not disappoint him.
In the subsequent matches, there were no more perfect scores like Obito and Kakashi, and not even anyone who scored higher than Uchiha Tetsuka. The highest score was only twenty-three points.
When all the contestants had finished their demonstrations, it was time to announce the rankings.
"Uchiha Obito, first place; Hatake Kakashi, first place; Uchiha Tetsuka, second place..." The host announced the top three.
Muyue's suggestion had worked, and Obito and Kakashi tied for first place, resulting in a draw.
"You were just lucky this time. Next time, I'll definitely beat you." Having won first place, Obito excitedly bluffed.
"If only your skills were as tough as your mouth, you might be able to do it." When it came to sharp tongues, Kakashi was far beyond Obito at this point.
Fortunately, with the first-place prize in hand—a beautiful silver-plated kunai and eight thousand ryō in bills—Obito was still happy despite losing the verbal battle with Kakashi, looking at his rewards.
The moment the rankings were announced, Obito's training mission was also settled.
【Disciple Uchiha Obito training mission complete. Rewards: Chakra +800, Ninjutsu Proficiency Scroll, Yin Release Chakra Nature Transformation (Proficient)】
Seeing the rewards that popped up, Muyue's eyes showed a gratified look. With such rich rewards, his twenty days of hard work had not been in vain.
Eight hundred points of chakra—if he were to attend lessons, it would take forty B-rank evaluations.
The Ninjutsu Proficiency Scroll was also a good item, capable of instantly raising a mastered ninjutsu to the proficient level.
As for the Yin Release Chakra Nature Transformation, it was the reward Muyue was most satisfied with—he was even happier than with the eight hundred chakra.
The two special nature transformations of Yin and Yang are very difficult to train. The moment he received the reward, a great deal of memory about training Yin Release Chakra Nature Transformation suddenly appeared in Muyue's mind.
Muyue opened the panel and began to check his stats.
Considering the extra chapters, could you perhaps throw in some monthly tickets?
