Chapter 477: Worldline Convergence
When Muyue arrived at the training ground, Yamato was already standing there waiting.
It was exactly six-thirty, the sky dyed a faint orange-red by the sunset, the sun slowly sinking below the horizon, leaving a trail of golden afterglow.
A gentle breeze swept through the trees lining the training ground, causing layers of leaves to rustle softly, as if nature itself were whispering.
Yamato stood alone at the edge of the training ground, his shadow elongated diagonally, cast across the earth carpeted with fallen leaves.
"When did you get here?" Muyue asked, walking up with a warm smile.
"Ten past six," Yamato answered honestly.
"Wasn't the agreed time six forty? Why come so early?"
"There's nothing to do in that room, and I thought I shouldn't keep Muyue-sama waiting, so I came early," Yamato explained.
Although he had only met Muyue once, Yamato did have considerable goodwill toward him.
On one hand, Muyue was the perfect ninja in Shimura Danzo's words, the direction he should strive toward; on the other, Muyue's very demeanor made him feel comfortable.
"Let's formally get to know each other. I'm Hanyu Muyue. No need to call me Muyue-sama. You can call me Muyue-sensei, or just sensei." Muyue said with a warm smile.
"I'm Kinoe," Yamato said, looking calmly at Muyue.
That warm, dazzling feeling gave Yamato the illusion that the setting sun had risen again from the horizon.
"Kinoe is just your codename in Root, not your name," Muyue said, shaking his head.
Yamato's expression turned blank. "But this is the only codename Danzo-sama gave me."
He had no past; for him, everything Shimura Danzo had given was all he had.
"How about 'Yamato'? As your own name, not a codename," Muyue said, adopting a thoughtful expression.
Muyue wasn't trying to win favor; he simply thought having no name would be a bit odd.
"If you want to choose a name yourself, or if you don't like this one, that's fine too, because the name is yours—what matters most is your own thoughts."
Yamato quickly shook his head. "No, I think this name is great."
Since Muyue was giving him a name out of kindness, how could Yamato mind? Besides, he really did think the name was good—there was an inexplicable feeling that it was just right.
"If Danzo asks, just say I gave you a name so you could move normally in Konoha," Muyue added after a moment's thought.
Not that Muyue was making a big deal out of nothing—it was just that Shimura Danzo was that sensitive.
At this time, Shimura Danzo still dreamed that any Wood Release ninja who developed normally could become a super strong, so he valued Yamato greatly and treated him as his secret weapon.
A secret weapon suddenly having a name—who knew what the sensitive Shimura Danzo might imagine. So Muyue came up with a very logical and realistic reason for Yamato.
Yamato nodded and took note of Muyue's words.
"First, climb trees, then walk on water. I want to test your chakra control level," Muyue began formally instructing Yamato.
Muyue's Wood Release couldn't be exposed yet, so his short-term training plan was to first improve Yamato's chakra control, then teach him Water Release and Earth Release.
Following Muyue's instructions, Yamato walked up a large tree as if on level ground, then looked around and finally turned to Muyue.
Because he realized there was no water nearby for him to walk on.
"Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall!"
Muyue swiftly hand-sealed, gathering a large amount of chakra and lowering a section of ground three meters in front of him.
"Water Release: Great Waterfall Technique!"
Then Muyue expelled a massive stream of water, filling the sunken ground.
In a minute, a huge swimming pool had instantly appeared on the training ground.
Yamato's mouth opened slightly—it was the first time he had seen a ninja use a large-scale jutsu to change the terrain.
"If you train seriously, you'll be able to do it soon too," Muyue said, patting Yamato on the shoulder with a smile.
Thanks to Hashirama's cells, Yamato had a unique advantage in chakra; as long as his Nature Transformation and jutsu proficiency improved, his strength would be considerable.
Yamato's water-walking performance was also decent—he could run quickly on the surface without any problem.
Muyue wasn't surprised. After all, he was the only Wood Release ninja since Hashirama. Shimura Danzo had certainly taken care to teach him; his fundamentals wouldn't be lacking.
"Water Release: Water Dragon Bullet Technique!"
Muyue formed hand signs, summoning a water dragon to rampage over the enormous swimming pool, turning the originally calm water surface instantly turbulent, and Yamato was no longer as composed as before.
Muyue taught Yamato the same way he had taught Obito and the others, training Yamato's chakra control and positioning.
After an hour, Muyue began teaching Water Release ninjutsu. Since Yamato already knew several Water Release techniques, Muyue directly taught Yamato the Great Waterfall Technique.
Although the Great Waterfall Technique could not directly amplify the power of ninjutsu like the Great Clear Sky, it could create a favorable field environment for Water Release users, making it a very good auxiliary Water Release ninjutsu.
When the total teaching time reached two and a half hours, Muyue announced the end of the first day's instruction.
Upon hearing Muyue say that training was over and he could go home, Yamato was dazed for a moment.
He looked up at the sky and realized that, without noticing, the sky had been occupied by a deep ink-blue, with faintly glowing stars dotted among it, twinkling with weak yet steadfast light.
It was already nine o'clock in the evening, which was a bit late from a time perspective.
This training was somewhat special for Yamato. In the past, although he did not dislike training and even looked forward to Shimura Danzo's instruction, this was the first time he had lost track of time during practice.
"Teacher Muyue, thank you for your instruction. Goodbye." Although somewhat reluctant, Yamato still said goodbye to Muyue with a respectful expression.
A ninja like Muyue must have many things to do; it was already not easy for him to take time to teach him.
After Muyue and Yamato each returned home, the Root ninja who had been watching them also returned to Root and reported to Shimura Danzo, reporting the entire process of Muyue's instruction.
"Very solid training items, but nothing special. Is it an ability issue?" Shimura Danzo fell into thought.
He was not worried that Muyue would not teach seriously; Shimura Danzo was just curious about how Muyue would teach.
He had paid attention to how Muyue trained Anbu ninjas, but he had not paid much attention to how Muyue cultivated disciples.
Based on the Root ninja's report, Shimura Danzo could only say it was within the norm.
"Test Kinoe's strength in a month; if it's not good, have Muyue change the training plan," Shimura Danzo thought. He felt Muyue's training was a bit too gentle.
In view of Muyue's past teaching achievements, Shimura Danzo chose to first trust, then question.
This was the privilege of the strong. If it were a different Root ninja, Shimura Danzo would first question, then question.
After having Root ninjas monitor for five days, Shimura Danzo withdrew Root's surveillance of Yamato.
Many Root members were undergoing training; Root was already short-handed. Shimura Danzo had no spare strength to use Root's power on such meaningless matters.
Another Sunday, because of the holiday, Muyue changed Yamato's training time to daytime.
At the same time, Muyue also notified his other disciples to go to the training ground where he usually taught Yamato.
"Today is daytime, I wonder if Teacher Muyue will teach a little longer." Yamato, who arrived early at the training ground, looked at the blazing sun rising in the sky and felt somewhat expectant.
What Yamato looked forward to most every day now was training, or more precisely, training under Muyue's guidance.
This was the first time he was receiving Muyue's instruction during the day. The previous six days had all started at half past six, and generally ended at the latest half past nine.
"If only today could be the whole morning." That was what Yamato most wished for now.
Suddenly, at this moment, Yamato noticed a figure walking unhurriedly toward the training ground.
Yamato's expression did not change, because that definitely was not Muyue. That figure was only a little taller than him, and at most a few years older.
When the figure got closer, Yamato was even more certain, because that figure's hair was white.
When the white-haired ninja was about to walk up to Yamato, he did not pay attention, feeling it might be a passing Konoha ninja.
Yamato did not care about Kakashi, but Kakashi was somewhat concerned about Yamato.
For some reason, he felt that the ninja in front of him, with long hair and a face-covering-style forehead protector, looked somewhat familiar.
But no matter how Kakashi tried to recall familiar ninja faces in his mind, he could not find any information related to the ninja before him.
Suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck Kakashi's mind, and a figure that did not belong to this time overlapped with the unfamiliar ninja before him.
Kakashi touched his head, squinted his eyes, and his gaze became somewhat dangerous.
A certain detestable guy had taken the opportunity to hit his head a full three times, each time with considerable force.
To avoid wrongly accusing an innocent person, Kakashi first carefully examined the long-haired ninja, confirming that the long-haired ninja before him had many similarities with the Yamato he had seen in Loulan.
"Hello, may I ask what your name is?" Kakashi asked very politely and kindly.
Since Kakashi's attitude was quite good, and Yamato was kind by nature, he directly answered Kakashi's question.
"I am Yamato," Yamato replied with a smile.
He always remembered Muyue's words: "Kinoe" was just his codename in Root; Yamato was his true name, given to him by Muyue.
"Finally, I've found you." The kind smile on Kakashi's face grew even warmer.
If Obito had seen this, he would have instinctively stepped back a few paces. Kakashi rarely smiled, and when he did, it never meant anything good.
Yamato was a bit confused. He didn't know Kakashi. Could he be a ninja that Muyue knew?
"What is your current relationship with Teacher Muyue?" Kakashi didn't seek revenge immediately, instead first asking about Yamato's relationship with Muyue.
He thought Yamato's appearance at this training ground was certainly not a coincidence; it was very likely that Muyue had called him here as well.
"Teacher Muyue is guiding my training," Yamato first answered Kakashi's question, then asked:
"Are you also a ninja training under Teacher Muyue?"
He noticed that Kakashi also referred to Muyue as "Teacher Muyue."
"I am Teacher Muyue's disciple." Kakashi didn't hide it and told Yamato about his relationship with Muyue.
"You've only recently started training under Teacher Muyue, right? I've been training with Teacher Muyue for over two years, so I'm your senior."
Yamato looked at Kakashi with envy. He didn't know if his relationship with Muyue counted as master-disciple, nor did he know how much longer he could train with Muyue.
"Senior Kakashi," Yamato called out politely.
Kakashi was older than him and had started learning from Muyue earlier, so he was indeed his senior.
The smile on Kakashi's face grew even warmer. "Yamato, you know, Teacher Muyue likes diligent students the most. Let's start training now; Teacher Muyue will surely be delighted to see that."
"Is that so?" Yamato showed an eager expression.
Muyue had been so good to him; Yamato wanted to make Muyue happy.
Yamato looked at Kakashi with gratitude. There were still many good people in the world.
"As your senior, let me give you some guidance on your training," Kakashi continued.
"Wouldn't that be too much trouble for you, senior?" Yamato was a bit flattered.
"No trouble at all. Harmonious and mutually helpful interaction among disciples is also a sight Teacher Muyue is happy to see," Kakashi said, waving his hand.
"So what do we do next?" Hearing that it could make Muyue happy, Yamato agreed immediately.
The smile on Kakashi's face gradually shifted from kind to nuclear-kind. "It's simple. Next, you attack me with full force, and leave the rest to me."
A spar would both allow him to get revenge and conveniently gauge Yamato's current strength. It was a win-win situation — he would win twice all by himself.
Hearing Kakashi's words, Yamato couldn't help but marvel inwardly: "As expected of Teacher Muyue's disciple. How wonderful."
Although Kakashi told him to go all out, Yamato didn't know Kakashi's strength and was worried about hurting him, so he began with a probing attack.
After exchanging a few moves, Yamato realized Kakashi was very strong; he couldn't even touch the hem of Kakashi's clothes.
Dodging Yamato's swing punch, Kakashi struck Yamato on the head with a knife hand.
"Your punch is too slow. How are you going to hit anyone like that?" Kakashi instructed with a straight face.
Yamato silently memorized Kakashi's words, then feinted with his left fist and quickly whipped out his right leg.
But how could Yamato's still somewhat inexperienced taijutsu deceive Kakashi's Transparent World? All of Yamato's movements were seen through by him.
Kakashi dodged with an easy expression, then backhanded another punch to Yamato's head.
Feeling the sensation from his fist, Kakashi felt immensely exhilarated, like gulping down an icy soda on a scorching summer day — refreshing through his whole body and lifting his spirits.
Kakashi could somewhat understand the future Yamato now. So hitting an annoying person's head was this satisfying; no wonder the future Yamato would hit him three times.
"Your footwork is sloppy, your lower stance is weak!" Kakashi continued his critique.
Yamato rubbed his head with one hand, feeling that Senior Kakashi's care was a bit too heavy to bear.
Just then, Obito, who had rarely woken up early, arrived at the training ground together with Shisui.
Watching Yamato and Kakashi fighting — oh no, it was Yamato being beaten by Kakashi — Obito felt a sense of deja vu.
"Isn't this Captain Yamato? How come after a few months he's become so small?" Obito recognized that this was indeed Captain Yamato, the Anbu captain who had traveled through time together with Naruto Uzumaki.
"It should be the Yamato of our current time, not the Yamato from the future," Shisui thought for a moment and said.
When the Dragon Vein mission was carried out, Shisui didn't go, so he had never seen Yamato's appearance. Following normal logic, he deduced that this Yamato, who was being thoroughly beaten by Kakashi, couldn't possibly be Captain Yamato of the Anbu.
"Heh heh, definitely not. If time travel were that easy, Teacher Muyue would have taken us to the future to have fun back in Loulan," Obito chuckled. He had just been casually complaining.
Seeing the other disciples arrive, Kakashi stopped fighting. Muyue would be the last to arrive; by this time, he should have shown up. Beating Yamato any more would be impolite.
As Kakashi expected, Muyue suddenly appeared before them right on cue.
"Teacher Muyue." Everyone called out to Muyue with respectful expressions.
"Good morning." Muyue smiled and nodded in response.
Might Guy had temporarily returned to Chen-sensei's team, and Rin Nohara was training with Tsunade. All the disciples who could come had arrived.
Then Muyue called Yamato aside to face the other three disciples.
"He is Yamato. He will train with you today." Muyue briefly introduced Yamato, then gave the three a meaningful look.
Kakashi nodded. They certainly couldn't casually talk about the future ninja matter. Even if Muyue hadn't reminded him, Kakashi would have warned Obito not to tell Yamato anything about the future.
"I'm Uchiha Shisui. Please take care of me." Shisui proactively introduced himself.
"I'm Uchiha Obito. Stick with me, and I guarantee Kakashi won't be able to bully you anymore." Obito patted his chest and said.
Yamato looked at Obito with some surprise. So he had just been bullied by Kakashi-senpai?
Kakashi didn't say anything, but silently pulled out a photo of Obito from the Civil War from his ninja tool pouch and waved it at Obito.
Obito glared at Kakashi with angry eyes, but had no choice but to shut his mouth and stop talking. Kakashi's meaning was clear: if he kept talking, he would have the photo copied and plastered all over the main area of Konoha.
"I'm Hatake Kakashi. Don't listen to that idiot Obito's nonsense. Anyone who knows me knows I'm the most reliable."
Kakashi patted Yamato's head in a friendly manner, then sincerely apologized: "Sorry, does it hurt? I might have accidentally used a bit too much force just now."
"It's okay, it doesn't hurt much anymore. You were just instructing me, Kakashi-senpai." Yamato thought he might have misjudged Kakashi-senpai.
After all, Kakashi-senpai also looked very gentle, though not as much as Teacher Muyue.
The corners of Kakashi's mouth curled into a smile as he looked at Yamato. There was still plenty of time ahead; he would slowly collect those three punches with interest.
"Ahem, since you've already met, let's start training," Muyue coughed lightly twice.
The Dragon Vein storyline wasn't actually completely over. Later on, Naruto would come over again, but by then Naruto's side would be close to the Fourth Great Ninja War from the original work. There would be quite a few interesting plot developments.
But that Naruto had also been altered by the protagonist. I'm thinking that if I first briefly write out the changes in the plot from the Naruto with Sun Breathing, the story will flow more smoothly later and won't be so abrupt.
